Reclaiming Identity

Kristen Zuray, Abbi DeWitt, Lydia Zuray

Have you wondered why God allowed bad things to happen to you? Do you find yourself second guessing your decisions? Do you feel that no matter how hard you try, your efforts are never good enough? Are you tired of having bad relationships in your family, friends, and significant others? We're so glad you're here! This podcast will give you the tools to help you heal your relationship with God, others, and yourself so that you will have stronger faith, feel confident, and find balance in your life. We are Kristen Zuray, Abbi DeWitt, and Lydia Zuray, a mother/daughter team of Christian Life Coaches and Mentors from the Adi Project. From previously struggling with relational heartbreak, spiritual and emotional abuse, and long term chronic illness- we have struggled to understand God's goodness and His ultimate design for us. We tried to ignore our pain, placed our self-worth in our work, and chased after people's approval only to feel even more lost and rejected. We began to put up walls with the very God who's known for breaking them down. God showed the truth that our identities don't come from our hands. Identity is not about what we do, it's about who God is. We were designed to be a reflection of His image. When we seek to understand and believe in the truth of God's identity and in how He sees us, we begin to heal from our past traumas, grow in confidence, and begin living out in our purposes. If you are ready to reclaim your God-given identity, heal from your relationships, and discover the truth of who God is, then this podcast is for you! So, grab your spiritual armor, a cup of strong coffee, and join us in reclaiming your identity in Christ. How Is Identity Affected By Trauma? Can I Lose Something I Never Had?

How Trauma Affects Your Identity | Healing from Trauma & Finding Your Identity in Christ Are you struggling to move forward after trauma? Do painful experiences still shape how you see yourself, others, or even God? In this episode of Reclaiming Identity, host Abbi DeWitt sits down with trauma-informed coach, author, and speaker Kristen Zuray to explore how trauma affects your identity—and how healing begins by replacing lies with God's truth. Trauma doesn't just leave emotional scars. Whether you've experienced childhood trauma, spiritual abuse, emotional abuse, chronic illness, narcissistic relationships, or other painful experiences, trauma can reshape your beliefs about your worth, your purpose, your relationships, and your identity in Christ. In this episode, you'll discover: • What trauma really is and why it changes the way we see the world • The different types of trauma, including childhood trauma, emotional trauma, physical trauma, complex trauma, and spiritual trauma • Common trauma symptoms like anxiety, fear, isolation, anger, sleeplessness, and loss of identity • How trauma creates false beliefs about yourself and about God • Why your beliefs influence your future decisions more than your past experiences • Kristen's personal journey of healing from spiritual trauma and reclaiming her identity in Christ • Practical encouragement for beginning your own trauma healing journey through biblical truth If you've ever wondered why you struggle with people-pleasing, fear, perfectionism, shame, or feeling "not enough," this conversation will help you understand the connection between trauma and identity—and remind you that your past does not define your future. Is Life Unbalanced? Here is How To Bring Balance Through Identity

Is Life Unbalanced? Here's How to Bring Balance Into Your Life Through Identity | Reclaiming Identity Podcast Are you constantly doing more but feeling less fulfilled? Have achievements, productivity, ministry, or responsibilities left you emotionally exhausted instead of joyful? In this week's episode of Reclaiming Identity, Host Abbi sits down with Lydia Zuray for an honest and powerful conversation about what happens when life becomes unbalanced — and how losing balance can slowly disconnect you from your identity, peace, and relationship with God. Lydia shares her personal journey of living in an overworked, emotionally drained season where her identity slowly began shifting to meet the expectations and needs of everyone around her. From ministry pressures to nonstop productivity, she opens up about how imbalance affected her emotionally, spiritually, and mentally — and what it took to finally break free from that cycle. In this episode, they discuss: How to recognize when your life has become unbalanced Why productivity and achievement can quietly become identity The emotional signs of imbalance: stress, anxiety, confusion, exhaustion, and feeling lost How fear and people-pleasing can fuel an overworked lifestyle The spiritual impact of neglecting your "secret place" with the Lord Why even good things like ministry can become unhealthy when rooted in fear instead of obedience Lydia and Abbi also unpack the deeper lies that often produce an unbalanced life, including: "The more productive I am, the more significant I become." "If I stop, I will fail people." "My value comes from what I accomplish." Together, they explore the biblical story of Mary and Martha and the importance of seeking God first instead of allowing work, chaos, or external expectations to consume your identity. In this episode, Lydia shares 5 practical steps that helped her move from burnout and imbalance into peace, clarity, and healing: Spend intentional time with the Lord Change environments that are no longer healthy Learn strategic rest Allow yourself to be alone and face what's happening internally Move forward boldly into who God created you to be This conversation is for anyone who feels overwhelmed, emotionally depleted, disconnected from themselves, or trapped in a cycle of constantly doing without truly living. If you've been sacrificing peace for productivity, this episode will encourage you to slow down, reconnect with God, and reclaim your identity outside of performance and achievement. ✨ FREE Coaching Session Available Our 1-on-1 coaching is designed to help you break free from what's been holding you back, deepen your understanding of your identity in God, and walk confidently in your purpose. Identity Red Flags: 5 Signs You Are In An Identity Crisis
  5. May 30

What is identity and Why is identity important?

Who are you when the titles, roles, and expectations fall away? In the very first episode of Reclaiming Identity, host Abbi DeWitt sits down with Kristen Zuray—founder of the Adi Project, trauma-informed coach, author, and speaker—to explore one of the most important questions we can ask ourselves: What is identity? Have you ever looked in the mirror and felt disconnected from the person staring back at you? Maybe you've spent years defining yourself by your relationships, career, responsibilities, or the expectations of others—only to feel lost when life changes. In this honest and deeply personal conversation, Kristen shares her own journey of discovering who she truly was beyond the labels of pastor's wife, cop's wife, executive director, author, and founder. Together, Abbi and Kristen unpack how identity is shaped by our upbringing, relationships, trauma, faith, values, and life experiences—and why understanding your identity changes everything. From the decisions we make to the relationships we build, identity influences our confidence, emotional health, purpose, and resilience through life's hardest seasons. If you've ever struggled with insecurity, people-pleasing, feeling unseen, or wondering where you truly belong, this episode will remind you that you are not alone—and that healing and clarity are possible. This episode also introduces the heart behind the Adi Project, the mission of Reclaiming Identity, and the hope that comes from rediscovering who you were created to be.
