A storytelling podcast where Jaybyrd navigates connection to his CHamoru heritage and the people from the Mariana Islands. Red Rice and fina’denne’ sauce is a dish that's staple to the CHamoru cuisine, and it's been part of our people for a long time. The rice is stained with achiote, and the fina’denne’ sauce gives traditional dishes like red rice, a pop—a taste that has you going back for more. And like red rice and fina'denne', this podcast will talk story—but that’s the pop—that talk that’ll have you coming back for more.Part of the Fina'denne' project https://finadenne.com/

Latte Fest: CHamoru flavors and sounds in San Francisco

Send us a Text Message.Stepping onto Treasure Island, we were swept up in the vibrancy of the CHamoru culture at Latte Fest 2024. Adorned with the weight of multiple sinahi nechlace and the comfortable shade of a woven hat, Jaybyrd found himself navigating a sea of tradition, taste, and tales. Among the swirl of colors and sounds, I caught up with Chef Shawn Naputi, whose chagi chicken was nothing short of a culinary masterpiece, and the O'Mallon brothers from Guam Style, who passionately sha...

Haha adai all day with Jay

I am biased on my review, so will state that now!

However, I am able to separate the fact Jay is my brother from the fact that his story’ing and production is amazing. I am so very proud of him and his voice.

Our ability as the CHamoru diaspora to capture these types of sentiments is imperative to the survival of our culture. We are a proud people despite the challenges our culture has endured for over 500 years since our “discovery” by others. This podcast is a testament to our pride and the many values that are engrained in our blood despite losing much of our language and collective culture as many of us off island folks spread the spirit of hafa ada around the world.

Nicely done Jay Byrd. I am excited my biased opinion of your show is shared by others who are not your brother! Keep those wings flapping and the mind moving.

Immersive cultural experience

This meditative, beautiful podcast left me feeling the warmth of the CHamoru people, while appreciating the depth of their history and the ingenuity that continues into today. Jay’s soothing voice, the wonderful people he meets, and the music left me feeling transported and connected.

Immersive and poetic approach to history and culture

This podcast really hit the spot. It’s a meditative, thoughtful deep dive into Pacific Islander history and culture. Host Jaybyrd has a gift with connecting with those he is with and pulling the audience into the story. Great way to start the day!
