Ep. 108 - Christoffel Sneijder - The Gut Brain: How Your Body Makes Decisions Before You Do

Christoffel Sneijders, MCC is a renowned expert in human behavior and transformative change, with over 33 years of experience empowering individuals and organizations to unlock their true potential. He is the creator of the groundbreaking 3 Brains Intelligence Theory, which integrates the Head, Heart, and Gut brains to foster better decision-making, deeper relationships, and sustainable leadership. What if some of the biggest decisions in your life are being influenced before your conscious mind even knows what's happening? We often hear people say, “Trust your gut.” But what exactly is a gut feeling? And more importantly, how do you know when your gut is detecting something important versus simply reacting to fear, anxiety, past experiences, or an old survival response? In Part 1 of this three-part conversation on the gut, heart, and head brains, I sit down with Christoffel to explore the fascinating concept of the gut brain, often called the second brain, and the role it may play in survival, motivation, anxiety, intuition, and decision-making. We explore why your body can react to a situation before your conscious mind understands what's happening, why uncertainty can trigger endless overthinking, and why the same internal system that pushes someone toward achievement can also keep them trapped in fear. Christoffel also explains how the gut constantly evaluates the world through questions like: Am I safe? Am I in danger? How do I win? How do I avoid losing? In this episode, we explore: What the “gut brain” or second brain actually isHow the gut may influence your decisions without conscious awarenessWhy fear and anxiety are so often felt physically in the stomachThe connection between survival instinct, ambition, competition, and successWhy your gut seeks safety, control, and certaintyHow past experiences can influence what feels like intuition todayThe difference between a genuine signal and an old fear responseWhy blindly following “trust your gut” can sometimes be misleadingHow breaking overwhelming decisions into smaller questions can reduce anxietyWhy your head, heart, and gut may need to work together to make better decisionsPlus much more One particularly useful insight comes near the end of our conversation: anxiety can grow when we collapse an entire imagined future into one giant story. Breaking that story into smaller questions can make the situation far easier to navigate. This is Part 1 of our Three Brains series. In the next episode, we move from the gut to the heart brain and explore a different question: How do you know what you actually want versus what you've been conditioned to want? If you've ever wondered whether to trust your intuition, why your body reacts before your mind catches up, or why fear sometimes feels indistinguishable from a gut feeling, this conversation is for you. Ep. 107 - When Empathy Becomes Self-Abandonment

Sometimes the reason you can’t let someone go isn’t that you don’t see the truth. It’s because you understand them too well. You see their fears, their wounds, their insecurities, their limitations. You understand why they pull away, why they become distant, why they struggle to meet you where you are. And eventually, your empathy for them can become self-abandonment. In this episode, I talk about one of the hardest lessons I’m still learning: understanding someone does not obligate you to keep absorbing the consequences of their behavior. I dive into why letting go can feel so painful even when you know a relationship, friendship, or connection is no longer nourishing you, and why something can be completely real without being sustainable. I also talk about: - The difference between empathy and self-abandonment - Why we suppress reasonable needs to protect a connection - Why fear of losing someone can make us lose ourselves - How real connections can still be unsustainable - Why letting go often means grieving the future we imagined - Why boundaries are information, not punishment - How self-trust makes letting go possible - Why choosing yourself does not mean you stop caring Letting go doesn’t require you to erase the memories. It doesn’t require you to stop loving someone. It doesn’t require you to pretend the connection didn’t matter. Sometimes letting go simply means accepting that you can love something, grieve something, miss something, and still choose not to lose yourself trying to keep it. And maybe that’s the hardest part: You don’t need to know what happens next to know that you cannot keep abandoning yourself here. Let's Connect. Ep. 106 - How to Build Real Confidence: Self-Trust, Fear, and Taking Action

For almost 20 years, I struggled with a debilitating stutter. There were moments when even saying my own name in class felt impossible. I grew up shy, socially anxious, afraid of being judged, and convinced that my voice, and eventually my ideas, didn’t matter. Now, I’m delivering keynotes in front of hundreds of leaders, executives, and managers. So what changed? It wasn’t that I suddenly stopped feeling fear. It wasn’t because I “faked it until I made it.” And it definitely wasn’t because I waited until I felt completely ready. I learned that confidence is not a prerequisite for action. Confidence is often the result of taking action. In this episode, I break down what real confidence is, why most traditional confidence advice fails, and how developing self-trust allowed me to move forward even when the outcome was uncertain. You’ll discover: Why “fake it till you make it” can make you trust yourself lessWhy waiting until you feel ready keeps you permanently stuckThe difference between confidence and self-trustHow small, uncomfortable actions retrain your brainWhy insight alone rarely creates lasting changeHow self-compassion makes it safer to take risksWhy fear is a signal—not necessarily a stop signHow to move forward without knowing how things will turn outPlus much more If this episode speaks to you, share it with someone who is waiting to feel confident before taking the next step. Ep. 105 - Sydney Vachon Part 2 - Why You’re Attracted to Unavailable People

Sydney is the founder of Dating With Depth Society (DWDS), a coaching and content brand that helps people move from anxious, urgent dating into a slower, more intentional approach rooted in self-trust and secure attachment. After years of transforming her own attachment style, she created the D.E.E.P. Slow Dating framework,  a method for building discernment, somatic awareness, and real connection before commitment. Her content has resonated with thousands of people navigating heartbreak, avoidant dynamics, and the pressure to settle. Why do unavailable people feel so magnetic? In Part 2 of this conversation, I sit down again with Sydney to explore why so many people feel drawn to people who can’t fully choose them back. We dive into self-trust in dating, anxious attachment, emotional unavailability, rejection, ambiguity, and the difference between healthy love and nervous system activation. This conversation explores why mixed signals can feel addictive, why “mystery” is often just unavailability, and why love requires more than chemistry. It requires timing, capacity, emotional readiness, and the courage to stop abandoning yourself. We also discuss how heartbreak can become a catalyst for transformation, why pain only makes sense in hindsight, how our beliefs shape what we notice in dating, and why learning to feel your emotions instead of analyzing them away can change the way you love. If you’ve ever found yourself chasing someone who couldn’t choose you, confusing anxiety with chemistry, or wondering why you keep repeating the same dating patterns, this episode will help you see love, longing, and self-trust in a different way. In this episode, we discuss: Why ambiguity feels emotionally draining but hard to leaveWhy your body may sense mixed signals before your mind understands themThe difference between fear, intuition, and attachment woundsWhy rejection hurts more when someone has truly seen youHow heartbreak can become a catalyst for transformationWhy “dating is a numbers game” may become a limiting beliefWhy unavailable people can feel so magneticWhy anxiety can feel like chemistryWhy attraction can grow over timeWhy we try to earn love from people who cannot choose usHow self-trust changes the way you datePlus much more Follow Sydney: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/datingwithdepthsociety/Let's Connect. Ep. 104 - Sydney Vachon Part 1 - Why People Run From the Love They Want

Modern dating can feel confusing, painful, and emotionally exhausting. Sometimes the connection is real, the chemistry is there, and both people genuinely care… but one person still pulls away. In this episode, I sit down with Sydney for a deep conversation about dating, avoidant attachment, self-trust, emotional availability, and why so many people struggle to build the connection they say they want. We explore why fear can disguise itself as intuition, why people sabotage good connections, why love potential is not enough, and why timing, capacity, and attachment readiness all have to align for a relationship to truly work. In this episode, we discuss: Why modern dating feels so confusing and emotionally exhaustingWhy people can want connection and still be terrified of itHow avoidant attachment can cause someone to pull away from a good connectionThe difference between fear and intuition in datingThe importance of timing, capacity, and emotional readinessHow empathy can turn into self-abandonmentWhy “friends first” may create a stronger foundation for loveWhy self-trust is essential for healthy relationshipsHow heartbreak can become a catalyst for growthPlus much moreFollow Sydney: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/datingwithdepthsociety/ Let's Connect. Ep. 103 - Pratiqk Jaani - Why Getting Everything You Want Isn't Enough

Pratiqk Jaani is the author of Dhrasti: The Perception and creator of the Dhrasti Method, a practical three-day immersive experience designed to help people shift from stress and scarcity into clarity and inner stability.  His work focuses on helping adults understand how childhood programming silently governs identity, ambition, relationships, and emotional reactions, and how shifting perception changes the lived experience of life itself. Why do so many people achieve the goals they thought would finally make them happy, only to still feel anxious, empty, or restless? In this episode I sit down with Pratiqk Jani, author of Dhrasti: The Perception, to explore why fulfillment cannot truly be found in money, status, relationships, success, or external achievement. Pratiqk explains how much of our suffering comes from subconscious conditioning, learned desires, expectations, and the stories we absorbed from childhood, family, society, and culture. Together, we explore why the mind keeps chasing “more,” how the nervous system shapes our reality, and what it means to reconnect with the deeper observer within us. This conversation goes into fulfillment, anxiety, scarcity, fear of judgment, childhood programming, hypnotherapy, emotional reactions, the illusion of control, and how to reduce suffering by changing the way we perceive life. In this episode, we discuss: Why success often still leaves people feeling emptyHow scarcity and survival conditioning shape our desiresWhy fear of judgment can feel stronger than fear of deathThe difference between pain and sufferingHow expectations create disappointmentWhy childhood experiences become subconscious programmingHow hypnotherapy can reveal hidden emotional patternsThe role of the nervous system in perception and realityWhat the “observer self” isHow to experience more peace, fulfillment, and inner wholenessPlus much more Pratiqk also shares a powerful perspective on why the things we chase externally rarely give us lasting fulfillment, and why true peace may come from seeing life without constantly labeling every experience as good, bad, success, failure, gain, or loss. Ep. 102 - Amanda McCracken - The Psychology of Longing and Unavailable Love

Amanda McCracken is an award-winning journalist passionate about experiences that highlight the intersection of wellness, travel, and relationships. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, Washington Post, Guardian, Vogue, National Geographic, Elle, NPR, Outside, ESPN, SELF, Runner’s World, and many others. She published her first article about longing in 2013, which led to additional articles featuring personal anecdotes and deep research and interviews with the BBC and Katie Couric. She is now considered a “limerence expert” and intimacy advocate. Her 2023 TED Talk, “How Longing Keeps Us From Healthy Relationships,” and her podcast, The Longing Lab, highlight how longing can become self-sabotaging and shares how to change our patterns of longing. Why do unavailable people sometimes feel more intoxicating than available ones? In this episode, I sit down with Amanda J. McCracken, author of When Longing Becomes Your Lover, to explore the psychology of longing, attraction, attachment wounds, unavailable love, and why some people confuse anxiety with chemistry. Amanda shares her personal journey of being drawn to emotionally unavailable people, how therapy and somatic work helped her break the pattern, and why safe, transparent love can feel “boring” when your nervous system is used to uncertainty, distance, and emotional highs and lows. We talk about why longing can become addictive, how unresolved relationships become anchor memories, why people blame themselves when love doesn’t work out, and how modern dating culture rewards emotional detachment while so many people secretly crave deep connection. This conversation is for anyone who has ever found themselves obsessed with someone they couldn’t have, stuck in a fantasy, longing for an almost-relationship, or wondering why secure love doesn’t feel as exciting as unavailable love. Amanda’s closing reminder is one of the most powerful takeaways from this episode: “Nurture the longing that nurtures you.” In this episode, we explore: Why unavailable people feel so intoxicatingHow longing can become an emotional addictionThe difference between chemistry, anxiety, and loveWhy safe love can feel boring at firstHow attachment wounds shape attractionWhy modern dating rewards detachmentHow to grieve someone you never fully hadWhy unresolved connections stay in your mind for yearsHow somatic therapy helps rewire relationship patternsHow to stay open to love after heartbreakPlus much more Follow Amanda: Website: https://www.amandajmccracken.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/amandajmccracken/TEDx Talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JqGeP240TcBook: https://www.amandajmccracken.com/book Let's Connect. In this episode, I  sit down with Ken, a former cybersecurity founder whose life changed after a spontaneous spiritual awakening during one of the most stressful seasons of his life. After years in the logical world of tech, startups, and cybersecurity, Ken experienced something he couldn’t explain: a powerful, energetic release that shifted him from anger and exhaustion into peace almost overnight. That moment sent him on a journey into consciousness, energy healing, intuition, meditation, spiritual awakening, and what it really means to heal.
