*FINAL* Ep. 42: Be Not Afraid of the Culture - Dr. Lisa Sosin

On this final guest episode of RENAR Voice, Robert and Jeff sit with counselor and professor Dr. Lisa Sosin who serves as the director of Liberty's PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision program.  Dr. Sosin leads Robert and Jeff through a prayerful and intimate exploration of the challenges a Christian faces associating with professional organizations especially amid endorsed contradictions to what Christians believe about sexuality, gender, marriage, and human life.
Dr. Sosin draws on the Gospel story of the woman at the well to frame how one might navigate professional membership, discern the call to be a missionary within those associations, and ultimately allow love to cast out fear and build relationship.  She discusses practicing the profession with excellence for the glory of God, having a seat at the table, credentialing, and the need for each of us to discern and listen to our well-formed conscience.

Greatster at that dish ,

What a gift!

I’ve been listening to these podcasts on my morning walks, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to get to know some of our professors on a more personal level. Being in an online program can often leave us feeling disconnected, and this podcast helps bridge that gap. The cohosts are so vulnerable and funny! I find myself both laughing and tearing up during almost each episode. Thank you for all your hard work. Makes me even more proud to call Liberty my home. May God continue to bless your ministry!

Such good insights!

I listened to 2 of the interview podcasts, and really benefited from both the questions asked and the perspectives of the interviewees. The episode about the DMV introduced a fascinating history, and led me to grapple with this idea of diagnosing someone with a symptom-focused approach, vs. holding the person in their complexity, and seeing them first as a person. The interview with Dr. Sadusky was equally complex, and led me to question my own openness to encountering and accompanying another on their journey vs. feeling I must first make known my beliefs before knowing the person. So many good, nuanced conversations that lead to seeing the client as a whole, complex person who deserves to be seen first.
