I realize I’m six years late to the party, but Netflix helped me get into ATLA and now ALOK. Holy Cow what a great set of shows.
Anyway, I remembered Devindra talking about this podcast back in 2014 on /Filmcast and so I went back and dig it up. Since then I’ve subscribed to the whole Joannaverse of podcasts and had no idea she was also on this show! I’ve always been able to rely on Devindra for amazing recommendations and I love the way he needles Dave Chen. And on Cast of Kings I loved the dynamic where Joanna doesn’t let Dave get away with being wrong. Every time I’m shouting in my car “no that’s not right!” I am so relived when Devindra or Joanna also piped up and sets the record straight.
I can barely listen to other podcasts where hosts let people say things that are factually wrong. I’m here for the quality analysis, but quality analysis has to start from a place where we actually understand the actual story beats as they happened. I feel so at home with these two, because they carry a trustworthy reliability; I can fully engage with the theorizing and the fanboy delights because I trust the reporting quality of the hosts.
Da7e and Matt are fine additions, bringing in a wealth of experience, knowledge, positive energy and offering additional perspectives that make the discussion all the more rich.
I loved listening to this as I watched for the first time, this podcast is just as useful and delightful now in 2020 as it was in 2014, and frankly it was nice to engage in “real world” parallels without needing to think about pandemics or Donald Trump.
Anyway, this podcast is great. 5 Stars. Thank you to my favorite podcasters for this thoughtful, fun, and thorough analysis.
