This story has absolutely nothing to offer. It promises no queerbaiting but dances lightly around the subject until nearly 8 episodes in, when suddenly almost every other scene becomes an educational bit that anyone who knows what queerbaiting is shouldn’t need. The lead couple confesses three times in the last two or three episodes only to act like it didn’t happen at all immediately after. It’s not queerbaiting in the strictest sense of the word but it’s hardly strong representation either.
Even worse, our leading couple have absolutely no chemistry whatsoever. The main character is completely insufferable but also fails to have any agency in his own story. He makes no decisions or plans, and is constantly being captured or tortured or nearly killed, if he isn’t literally being picked up and carried to the next plot point. The dialogue wants to be witty but is mostly overwrought and meandering as a result, frequently overdoing itself. The story claims to be about revolution but no one seems to have any investment in it, nor do they do anything other than wring their hands about how terrible it is that the villain does bad things to catboys, who barely exist in this story that revolves around their oppression. After twelve episodes and a prologue, I’m left feeling as if nothing substantial has happened.
The editing is also absolutely terrible, the mixing is bad, there are often long pauses or abrupt shifts, and occasionally multiple takes are inserted in so that dialogue doubles up. I’m also almost completely certain the narrator is AI generated given how they blithely sail through muddied sentences and what sound like typoed words without stumbling, even wholly mispronouncing character names in some points. There are even times where the background music will stop suddenly for a sound effect to play, then start up again, rather than having it layered. It’s sloppy and unpleasant. It’s not just amateur, it’s lazy, and combined with all the above issues, it just seems like no one loved this enough to really try.
This whole series feels like it was put together without edit or review, without the creator so much as listening through it to make sure everything was coming together properly. If the creators don’t even care enough to give it a listening pass I don’t see why anyone else should. It says nothing, goes nowhere, and doesn’t have the decency to be a fun ride either.
