Called to Serve the Philippines: From Nurse Practitioner to Missionary

Send us Fan Mail 🇵🇭 What happens when God places the Philippines on the heart of a young Nurse Practitioner from North Carolina? In this episode of Rise Tayo, I sit down with Aaron Belch, a newly commissioned Missionary Associate with Assemblies of God World Missions who is preparing to serve as a medical missionary at Bethel Bible College in Valenzuela, Metro Manila. Aaron’s calling didn't begin in the Philippines. It started years ago when, as an eighth grader, he sensed God calling him to serve people around the world. That calling followed him through nursing school, serving in the ICU during COVID, becoming a Nurse Practitioner, a mission trip to West Africa, and eventually two trips to the Philippines. During his second visit in 2025, a message about the Hebrew word **“Shema”—to hear and obey—**became a defining moment. Aaron knew it was time to say YES to what God had been stirring in his heart for years. In our conversation, Aaron shares his journey of faith, why the Filipino people captured his heart, how God brought together his medical training and passion for the Gospel, and what he hopes to do as a medical missionary in the Philippines. We also talk about something bigger than Aaron’s story: What does it look like to hear God—and actually obey when He calls? Aaron is currently raising support as he prepares for deployment. Please keep him, his ministry, and the people he will serve in the Philippines in your prayers. 🙏 PRAY • SUPPORT • FOLLOW Support Aaron’s Mission to the Philippines: AG Giving Your financial support will help Aaron prepare for deployment and serve as a medical missionary in the Philippines. Follow Aaron: Facebook: Aaron in the Philippines May this conversation remind us that wherever God has placed us—and whatever gifts He has given us—our lives can become instruments for His Kingdom when we're willing to say: “Yes, Lord. Send me.” 🇵🇭❤️

Is Politics Hindering You From Sharing the Gospel?

Send us Fan Mail Politics can divide nations—but it can also divide families, friendships, churches, and even fellow believers. In the Philippines and here in the United States, political tensions can become deeply personal. We argue online. We unfollow people. Friendships are damaged. Families stop talking. And sometimes Christians become so passionate about defending a politician or political position that we forget the greater mission Jesus gave us: **To share the Gospel and make disciples.** In this episode of Rise Tayo, we're having an honest conversation about politics through the lens of God's Word. Should Christians care about politics? Absolutely! We should vote responsibly. We should stand for biblical convictions. We should speak against corruption and injustice. We should advocate for the vulnerable, pursue truth, hold leaders accountable, and pray for those in authority. But our political convictions should never become a barrier to sharing Jesus Christ. If political disagreements cause us to hate people, destroy relationships, refuse to speak to someone, or become more interested in winning arguments than winning souls—then we need to examine our hearts. In this episode, we talk about: • Why our ultimate identity must be in Jesus—not a politician or political party • How politics can quietly become an idol • Why Christians should participate responsibly in government and elections • Why biblical convictions should influence how we vote • How to disagree politically without dishonoring one another • Why Christians must pursue both **truth and grace** • The importance of praying for leaders—even those we strongly disagree with • How our behavior on social media affects our Christian witness • Why we must verify information before sharing it • Why winning a political argument is never more important than pointing someone to Jesus Scripture reminds us in **Philippians 3:20** that our citizenship is in heaven. Politicians will come and go. Administrations will change. Nations will rise and fall. But Jesus Christ remains King. At the foot of the cross, our political affiliations cannot save us. Whether we agree politically or disagree completely, we are all sinners in need of the same Savior. So don't let politics stop you from loving someone. Don't let politics destroy relationships that could become opportunities for the Gospel. Don't let politics become your identity. And most importantly: **Don't let politics hinder you from sharing Jesus.** Our citizenship is in heaven. Our identity is in Jesus Christ, not in politics.  Our mission is the Gospel. And our command is to love. 🙏 My prayer is that this episode challenges us to examine our hearts, pray for our leaders, participate responsibly in our nations, and remember that our greatest calling isn't to win a political argument - it's to point people to Jesus Christ.

The Family Conversation Most Filipinos Avoid: Setting Healthy Family Boundaries

Send us Fan Mail Family is one of God's greatest gifts. As Filipinos, we deeply value honoring our parents, caring for our relatives, and making sacrifices for the people we love. These are beautiful values that should be preserved. But what happens when love becomes guilt? When expectations become overwhelming? When saying "yes" to everyone begins to hurt your marriage, your children, your finances, or your walk with God? In this episode of Rise Tayo, we have an honest conversation about one of the most difficult topics many Filipino families avoid—healthy family boundaries. Together, we'll explore what the Bible says about honoring our parents while also protecting the family God has entrusted to us. We'll discuss common struggles many Filipinos face, including financial expectations, *utang na loob*, people-pleasing, unsolicited advice, and learning how to lovingly say "not right now" without guilt. Using Scripture as our foundation, we'll walk through: 📖 **Genesis 2:24** — God's design for marriage and the biblical principle of "leave and cleave" 📖 **2 Corinthians 9:7** — Giving willingly, not under compulsion 📖 **Galatians 1:10** — Choosing God's approval over people-pleasing 📖 **Matthew 10:34–37** — When following Jesus requires putting Him above every earthly relationship We'll also discuss practical ways to: • Set healthy financial expectations before moving abroad • Protect your marriage and children while continuing to honor your parents • Respond graciously when family expectations become overwhelming • Establish boundaries without bitterness, resentment, or disrespect • Love your family faithfully while remaining obedient to Christ Healthy boundaries are not walls that keep people out. They are guardrails that protect the relationships God has given us. Most importantly, we'll reflect on this important question: "Am I honoring God in the way I love my family?" Healthy boundaries aren't about loving your family less. They're about loving them wisely, protecting the relationships God has entrusted to you, and putting Christ first in every area of your life. I also close this episode with a prayer for wisdom, healing, stronger families, and the courage to love with both grace and truth. If this episode encouraged you, please share it with someone who may be navigating difficult family relationships. Who Is Discipling Our Children? | The Battle for the Next Generation

Send us Fan Mail Every child is being discipled by someone. In today's digital world, social media, TikTok trends, influencers, celebrities, K-pop culture, online personalities, and entertainment are shaping how children think about identity, beauty, success, relationships, and truth. The question isn't whether our children are being influenced—it's who is influencing them most. In this episode of Rise Tayo, we examine what the Bible says about raising the next generation and why God entrusted the primary responsibility of discipleship to parents—not algorithms, influencers, schools, or even the church. Together we'll explore: 📱 How social media quietly disciples children by shaping their values, worldview, and identity 🧠 Why comparison culture fuels anxiety, depression, insecurity, and hopelessness among young people ❤️ The greatest battle facing this generation: identity, not attention 📖 God's design for discipleship through Proverbs 22:6 and Deuteronomy 6:6-7 🏡 Why the home—not social media—is God's first classroom for spiritual formation 🙏 Practical ways parents can intentionally disciple their children every day What continually feeds the mind eventually forms the identity.  We'll also discuss why Scripture—not trends—must become the foundation of our children's identity through passages including Genesis 1:27, Psalm 139, Romans 12:2, Philippians 4:8, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, Matthew 16:26, and Matthew 28:19-20. If you're a parent, grandparent, teacher, youth leader, or someone who cares about the next generation, this episode is both a wake-up call and an encouragement. You'll be challenged to ask: Who is the loudest voice in my child's life?Do my children know more about celebrities than they know about Jesus? Are we intentionally discipling our children, or allowing culture to do it for us?You'll also receive practical ideas you can begin today, including reading one chapter of the Bible together, praying as a family, discussing what your children consume online, memorizing Scripture, and teaching them to ask: "Is this true? Does this glorify God?" Remember: The greatest battle for the next generation is not for their attention—it is for their identity. Our greatest calling is not merely to raise successful children, but faithful disciples of Jesus Christ. Because success without Jesus is still eternity without Him. 🎧 If this episode encouraged you, share it with a fellow parent or kababayan. Together, let's raise a generation that knows God's Word, loves Jesus, and walks faithfully with Him.

Why Are So Many Filipinos Losing Hope? | Walking by Faith, Not by Sight

Send us Fan Mail The Philippines is facing difficult times. Corruption, political division, rising costs of living, natural disasters, violence, and growing struggles with depression, anxiety, and hopelessness have left many Filipinos asking: "How do we keep going?" In this episode of Rise Tayo, we turn to Hebrews 11—the Bible's "Hall of Faith"—to learn from ordinary men and women who trusted an extraordinary God through impossible circumstances. But the story doesn't end there. The writer of Hebrews points us to Hebrews 12:1-2, reminding us that our ultimate hope is not found in the heroes of faith, but in Jesus Christ—the Author and Finisher of our faith. Together we'll explore: 🇵🇭 Why so many Filipinos are losing hope today 📖 What biblical faith really is—and what it isn't 🙏 What it means to walk by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7) ✨ Lessons from Noah, Abraham, Joseph, Moses, Rahab, and the other heroes of Hebrews 11 👑 Why Jesus—not our circumstances—is the foundation of our faith (Hebrews 12:1-2) ❤️ God's promises to the brokenhearted and weary 🕊️ The living hope found only in Jesus Christ No matter what you're facing today—financial struggles, family problems, grief, anxiety, uncertainty, or disappointment—you are not alone. Our hope is not found in the economy. Our hope is not found in politicians. Our hope is not found in our circumstances. Our hope has always been—and always will be—in Jesus Christ, the Author and Finisher of our faith. At the end of this episode, I share an invitation to place your faith in Jesus Christ and begin walking by faith instead of by sight. Key Scriptures: Hebrews 11 • Hebrews 12:1-2 • 2 Corinthians 5:7 • Psalm 34 • Romans 15:13 • Philippians 4:6-13 🎧 If this episode encouraged you, share it with a fellow kababayan who needs hope today.

Tacloban School Tragedy: Where Do We Find Hope? | A Biblical Response

Send us Fan Mail Our hearts are heavy. The heartbreaking school tragedy in Tacloban has left families grieving, students traumatized, and an entire nation searching for answers. In this special episode of Rise Tayo, we don't attempt to explain every "why." Instead, we turn to God's Word to discover what it teaches about the human heart, spiritual warfare, the danger of unresolved anger and bitterness, and the hope that is found only in Jesus Christ. Together we'll look at the story of Cain and Abel in Genesis 4, where God warned Cain before tragedy struck, reminding us that the greatest battles often begin in the heart. We'll also talk about the spiritual battle for the next generation, the importance of raising our children in the fear of the Lord, and why parents and the Church have such a vital role in discipling young people. Most importantly, this episode points to the One who is near to the brokenhearted. Jesus never promised a life free from suffering, but He did promise His presence, His peace, and His victory: "In this world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world." — John 16:33 If you're grieving, fearful, or searching for hope, this message is for you. A Mother's Sacrifice, A Daughter's Triumph | The Filipino Immigrant Dream

Send us Fan Mail What would you sacrifice for your child's future? In this deeply emotional episode of Rise Tayo Podcast, we share the incredible true story of Maria "Che" Ong and her daughter, Arabella—a story of sacrifice, separation, perseverance, faith, and the Filipino immigrant dream. In 2011, Che left the Philippines with only two suitcases, $500 in her pocket, and a dream of creating a better future for her family. She arrived in North Carolina alone, sleeping on the floor of an unfurnished apartment while working tirelessly as a Physical Therapist. But the road was not easy. For four long years, she lived thousands of miles away from her husband and six-year-old daughter, Arabella. She battled loneliness, homesickness, uncertainty, and even survived a near-fatal car accident that nearly ended her life. During that moment, one thought consumed her heart: "My daughter is still in the Philippines." Meanwhile, Arabella was growing up without her mother physically present, holding onto hope that one day they would be reunited. After years of sacrifice, that reunion finally came. Today, Arabella is a Summa Cum Laude graduate and will begin her nursing career as a Neuro ICU nurse at Duke University Hospital. Together, this mother-daughter tandem reflects on the challenges of immigration, cultural identity, bullying, discrimination, resilience, family values, and the sacrifices that often go unseen behind success. This episode is for every Filipino immigrant, every OFW, every parent who has sacrificed for their children, and every child who wants to understand what their parents endured to create opportunities for them. In this episode we discuss: 🇵🇭 Leaving family behind to pursue opportunities abroad 💔 The reality of homesickness and separation 🚑 Surviving a near-death experience 👩‍👧 The emotional impact on both mother and daughter 📚 Overcoming bullying and discrimination 💪 Filipino resilience and perseverance 🏥 Nursing, healthcare, and serving others 🙏 Faith, hope, and never giving up As Che reminds us: "Never say never. Never quit. There's no success in quitting." And as Arabella encourages the next generation: "If I can do it, you can do it too." ❤️ If this story touched your heart, please LIKE, COMMENT, and SHARE this episode with your family, friends, and fellow kababayans around the world. Many Filipinos have lived this story. Many children have waited for a parent working abroad. Many families have sacrificed in silence. Let's honor those sacrifices by sharing this message of hope, resilience, and faith. 📢 SHARE THIS WITH EVERY KABABAYAN YOU KNOW.
