    Return & Rebuild Episode 6: The Silence Breaks

    For years, the temple sat unfinished — opposition won, discouragement settled in, and nothing moved. This episode, the silence finally breaks. But not with fireworks. Not with an angel or a dramatic sign. It breaks with two guys showing up and just... talking. Haggai calls out a community that's found time to finish their own comfortable homes while God's house sits in ruins. Zechariah reminds them their strength was never going to come from out-maneuvering their opposition — "not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit." Together, they get a stalled, discouraged people back on their feet in a matter of verses. In this episode: Why an honest rebuke and a reason for hope had to come together, not separately The governor Tattenai shows up asking the same dangerous question that stopped everything last time What's actually different this time — same opposition, different outcome Building in the gap: weeks of uncertainty before any answer comes back from the king Who's your Haggai?     The JOY Factor: Finding Joy When the Lights Go Out

    The last two episodes talked about joy as a command and joy in trials — but those can feel like spiritual theory until life goes completely dark. This episode is for the seasons when you can't see God, can't feel Him, can't find Him. When prayers feel like they hit the ceiling and bounce back. Today, we spend real time in a book most of us skip in our read-through-the-Bible plans: Lamentations. Five chapters of a man watching his city burn — and maybe the most honest book in the whole Bible for anyone in a season too dark to know what to pray.     Return & Rebuild — Episode 5: The Trouble With Help

    What happens when you know you started where God led you…and then everything just stops? In Ezra 4, the opposition changes tactics. The friendly offer is gone. In its place comes years of discouragement, interference, bureaucracy, and eventually a complete shutdown of the work. Not for a few weeks. For years. In this episode of Return & Rebuild, we're talking about the kind of opposition that doesn't arrive as one dramatic battle, but as a slow drip—the kind that simply tries to wear you down until you stop building. And then we come to one of the hardest sentences in Ezra: the work ceased. But a stalled foundation is not the same thing as an abandoned one. If you're tired from carrying something that has gone on far longer than you expected, or staring at something in your own life that feels unfinished, this episode is for you.     Return and Rebuild Episode 4: Not Every Good Thing Is From God

    In Ezra 4, opposition finally arrives—but it doesn't look like opposition. It looks like an offer to help. "We seek your God as you do." It sounded like common ground. It wasn't. In Episode 4 of Return & Rebuild, we look at why Zerubbabel immediately refused the offer, the history behind it, and how the same warning shows up throughout the New Testament. Because not everything that sounds good, looks spiritual, or even contains some truth is necessarily from God.     Why would people celebrate and grieve at the exact same time? In Ezra chapter 3, the Jewish exiles return home after seventy years of captivity and begin rebuilding the temple. But what should have been a day of pure celebration becomes something far more complicated. Trumpets sound. People shout for joy. Others weep so loudly that no one can tell the difference between the two. Why?  In this episode of Return & Rebuild, we explore one of the most honest scenes in Scripture—a reminder that faith often lives in the tension between what God has already done and what we're still waiting for Him to do.     After seventy years in exile, everything changes with a single decree. But the real story isn't about King Cyrus. It's about a God who had been working long before anyone realized it. In this episode of Return & Rebuild, we continue our journey through the book of Ezra and discover how God fulfilled promises He made generations earlier through one of the most unlikely people imaginable—a pagan Persian king named Cyrus. We'll explore Isaiah's astonishing prophecy written more than 150 years before Cyrus was born, the return of the temple treasures, and why not everyone chose to go home.     🏛️ Return & Rebuild: Episode 1 — The Devastation It's been about a year since I last recorded — and I'm so glad to be back. This past year, I found myself falling in love with a part of Scripture I think a lot of us quietly skip past: the Old Testament. We live on this side of the cross, so it's easy to rush toward the gospels and epistles. But studying Ezra, Nehemiah, Haggai, Zechariah, and Esther, I discovered these books are beautiful — and every single one of them, beginning to end, points straight to Christ. Welcome to a brand new series: Return & Rebuild, tracing God's people from ruins to restoration. Before we can appreciate the rebuilding, we have to be honest about the devastation. How did God's people — living in the promised land, worshiping in Solomon's magnificent temple — end up dragged away in chains to Babylon? In this episode: • What Israel had, and what they lost • The slow, quiet drift from faithfulness to compromise • Ezekiel's haunting vision of God's glory departing the temple • The fall of Jerusalem in 586 BC • Why the ruins were never the end of the story Before God rebuilds anything, He often helps us see, honestly, what's actually broken.     The JOY Factor: Consider It Pure Joy? Are You Kidding Me?

    Episode 2 James 1:2 might be the most offensive verse in the Bible: "Consider it pure joy when you face trials of many kinds." Really, James? Pure joy about trials? In this episode, we dive into what James actually meant (spoiler: he wasn't trolling us) and discover the difference between finding joy IN our pain versus finding joy in what God produces THROUGH our pain. We'll explore the Hebrew concept of testing as purification and learn why trials aren't interruptions to God's plan for our lives - they ARE God's plan for our lives. Sometimes the most mature thing you can do is trust God's purposes when you can't understand His methods.
