    What happens when we begin to parent from the whole gospel instead of a partial one? In this episode, Deb, Caffe, Lori, and Stephanie talk about how our understanding of the gospel shapes every area of life—from marriage and relationships to the way we raise our children. A partial gospel can leave parents feeling like everything depends on them: managing behavior, suppressing struggles, and trying to raise children who reflect a “good Christian life.” The pressure can be overwhelming. But the whole gospel tells a different story. Jesus is not only our Savior—He is our Lord, and He is actively transforming us from the inside out. When we begin to live from the security of belonging to Him, parenting begins to change. The pressure to perform fades, the myth of balance loosens its grip, and we begin to rest in the work Christ is doing. And the promise of the gospel doesn’t stop with us—God is at work in our children as well. This conversation invites parents to move from striving to trust and to discover the freedom of parenting from the rest we have in Christ.

    Ep 35 // Anchored Above: Seated in Heavenly Places // Deb + Laura

    In this episode of Rooted & Woven, Laura and Deb return to a powerful analogy Deb first shared years ago — the “above and the below.” Together, they unpack what it means that the most real thing about us is not what is happening in the visible, temporal realm, but what is true in the unseen, spiritual realm — the “above.” Scripture tells us that we are seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus right now. That reality is not symbolic. It is not aspirational. It is present and unchanging. The “below” is what we see and feel — circumstances, emotions, disappointments, successes, relationships, struggles. It is the temple realm of earth. But nothing that happens below can alter who we are above. This conversation gently lifts our gaze. It reminds us that our identity is secure, our position is fixed, and our union with Christ is untouched by the shifting ground beneath our feet.     This table conversation did not unfold the way we originally planned — and we’re so grateful it didn’t. What began as a scheduled gathering with Deb, Lori, and several of us girls shifted unexpectedly into a smaller conversation with just Laura, Caffe, and Teresa. Without the familiar voices that often help guide these discussions, we felt stretched. But what we experienced instead was the steady, familiar presence of the Lord carrying us. We began by reflecting on the profound impact Deb and Lori have had in our lives — how they have faithfully spoken the truth of God’s Word into our circumstances and reminded us of our identity in Christ when we were tempted to believe otherwise. As we talked, it became clear that the seeds they have sown were bearing fruit in real time. Our conversation moved into what it truly means to die to ourselves and take up our cross — not as a heavy burden, but as the doorway into real life. We explored the beauty of transformation through the image of a caterpillar becoming a butterfly. In Christ, we don’t simply become improved versions of ourselves; we are made new. The old ways of thinking lose their grip. We are no longer bound to the ground by fear, striving, or old patterns — we are fitted for heaven and alive in Him. This conversation is honest, tender, and full of awe at how the Lord leads when we simply show up and trust Him.

    Ep 31 // Roots Up 2025 // Session 6: Earth-Shaking Sorrow: God Forgotten and God Remembered

    In session six of Roots Up, we continue our journey through day two by centering on one essential question: Do we actually believe what God says about us? Deb shares about living much of her life as what she calls an “unbelieving believer”—someone who professed faith in Christ, yet struggled to live from the reality of what God had already declared to be true. Together, we unpack the difference between simply knowing Scripture and truly believing it. Rooted in Philippians 3:12–14, this session invites us to forget what lies behind and press forward toward the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Rather than living anchored to our past or our patterns, we are called to live with our eyes fixed ahead—actively stepping into what God has already made possible. A believing believer takes God at His word. When Scripture says we are a new creation, that means the old is gone and the new has come—right now. As partakers in His divine nature, we are invited to live from a present reality, not a future hope. Struggle is not inevitable, and identity is not fragile when it’s rooted in Christ.     Ep 30 // Roots Up 2025 // Session 5: Group Think: Cultural Influences

    In Session Five of Roots Up, we examine how emotional thinking and fear can distort our perspective and lead us away from faith. Drawing from the story of the Israelites and the contrast between fear-driven narratives and faith-filled trust, we see how partial truths can discredit God when we rely on what we see instead of who He is. The Israelites forgot that victory was never meant to be achieved in their own strength. Like Jericho, the battles ahead required God. While fear spread through the camp, Joshua and Caleb stood apart—fully aware that without the Lord, there would be no victory. They reminded the people not to rebel against God and not to fear the enemy. Jesus echoes this truth in John 6:28–29 when He reminds us that our role is not to strive, but to believe. Faith is not a one-time act; it is a continual trust in God’s provision and promises.     Ep 29 // Roots Up 2025 // Session 4: Guarding Against Idolatry: Believing God

    In this session from our Roots Up Live Event, we explore what it means to live as faithwalkers—people called not to the patterns of this world, but to the reality of God’s upper story. Scripture reminds us not to be conformed to the world (Romans 12:2) or to love its ways (1 John 2:15). Yet the subtle patterns of secularism, pragmatism, materialism, and relativism often shape how we think about life—and even how we think about God. In this conversation, we examine how those patterns affect our minds, our obedience, and the “boxes” we try to fit God into. Drawing from 2 Corinthians 10 and 11, we’re reminded that we can think differently—about the world, about ourselves, and about God. Obedience is not something we manufacture on our own; it is a life of response to God, empowered by Christ Himself. As Philippians 2:12–13 tells us, we work out our salvation because God is already at work in us.
