Worlds Bets Settles, a rambling update on my heart and ChatGPT failed me again!

Todays episode is from Sept 22 1. What recording artist ran the Berlin Marathon in under 3 hours? https://therunningchannel.com/harry-styles-berlin-marathon/ 2. Debrief on World Track and Field Championships https://www.flotrack.org/articles/14534302-2025-world-athletic-track-and-field-championship-results-see-who-won Observations: a. Men vs women - it seems like there were way more upsets on the men's side. The favorite women won almost all (100 - MJW, 200 - MJW, 400 - SML, 1500 - Faith, 5000 - Chebet, 10,000- Chebet) running events (except 800). Why? b. Will Kenny Bednarek ever win an individual global gold? c. Crazy run off between USA and Kenya in the men's 4x400 - Zambia impeded both the USA and Kenya in different exchanges in the qualifying round. After a protest, at 11PM on Saturday night that there would be a run-off on Sunday morning at 10:40 AM before the finals later that day - USA was 2nd to Botswana in the finals. d. Biggest surprises - Men's 1500 - the big five all with no medals? Kerr and Laros were the only ones to make the finals and he hurt his calf a couple of laps in. Laros had no kick in this race. - Grant Fisher no medals? - Ingerbrigtsen - no medals? - Cole Hocker winning the 5000 in a fast race. His last lap was 52 seconds. 3. Another marathon major - Berlin Sawe was at WR pace at half way (60:16) but warm conditions slowed him down in the second half. Finished at 2:02:16 - four minutes ahead of second place. Rosemary Wanjiru (Ken) won the women's race in 2:21:05 (not particularly fast). https://www.letsrun.com/news/2025/09/sabastian-sawe-stays-perfect-at-26-2-by-winning-2025-berlin-marathon-in-20215/

Is there a link between extreme running and colon cancer? One study suggests yes. https://www.inovanewsroom.org/press-release/2025/08/groundbreaking-inova-study-finds-potential-link-between-long-distance-running-and-colon-cancer/ The study enrolled 100 participants between the ages of 35 and 50 who had completed at least five marathons or two ultramarathons and had never undergone a colonoscopy. Importantly, individuals with hereditary cancer syndromes or inflammatory bowel disease were excluded to isolate the potential impact of endurance exercise alone. The findings were striking: 15% of participants had advanced adenomas (pre-cancerous lesions), compared to the expected 1–2% in average-risk individuals in this age range. 41% of participants had at least one adenoma. The average age of participants was 42.5 years old – two and a half years below the recommended age for a first screening colonoscopy. 5.
