Mourning Call is a podcast about how to move through grief and mourning with grace and compassion. It is a safe place to explore various experiences of loss and to help change the conversation around death to a more authentic one in our culture. We invite you to dive in with us as we share in the hope, weight, laughter, tears, and lightness of the mourning journey. With stories, interviews, and conversations that connect us heart to heart as we explore the universal experience of loss that evokes the becoming of one’s true self. Hosted by Alyce Cristina & Crystal Leigh, two friends who connected through yoga and movement and ultimately found a deeper connection over our own parental losses. Alyce is a Movement Artist and Embodiment Coach. The stars call her Leo Queen, her family calls her Partner, Mama, Daughter, Sister, Nanan. Alyce dabbles in many creative endeavors from performer, artist, choreographer, lightyear leadership coach, to yoga, dance teacher, and educator. At the heArt of her being lives the movement of dance, her first true love. This modality of movement has been the root and path to unearthing her purpose and passion for life. Alyce uses heart-centered practices to awaken and empower others to live in-tune, aligned, and integrated to the unique movements of one's own life. The unexpected loss of her Mother in 2020 left her with a profound shift in her own understanding of life’s lesson: Letting Go. This now informs how Alyce moves through the unknown in her fullest expression moment to moment. Her mission here is to compassionately disrupt the conversation around loss and offer a space of healing and growth as a community. As a Gemini and ruled by Mercury, Crystal was born a natural communicator. With a degree in Communications Studies, she has been in some form of marketing and communications her entire career. She considers language itself her love language. She also has her 200 hour yoga teacher training certification and believes that movement is medicine, not just physically, but mentally, emotionally and spiritually. She is also a fertility awareness educator, helping others return to their natural, cyclical nature. Crystal had a profound loss in 2017 that changed her at her core and shaped who she is today.     Loss and Leaving Corporate America with Melissa Herriott of M.Herriott Designs

    In this week's episode, Alyce and Crystal have a conversation with Melissa Herriott founder and owner of M.Herriott Designs, a Charlotte-based firm that specializing in custom artwork and home design. Melissa, a long time friend of Crystal, shares her experience with grief around a change within her self identify. As well as personal grief losses that she experienced in the midst of the 2020 pandemic. Follow along as Melissa shares how the story of her career shift to entrepreneurship and a successful business venture was based in a complete identity shift that happened from an earth shattering loss. Losing her younger cousin, a brother and twin flame to her, who battled with cancer. While she struggled with that idea of him dying and the fact that he did not deserve that, she also lost her step dad, who came into her life at 19 years old until she was in her 30s. And while she was not lacking a father figure or a father-daughter relationship, she was calloused to her step dad’s love. It wasn’t until his passing that she realized how deeply he loved her. The three discuss how they have felt in disbelief that this person, who they each personally loss, is no longer on the earth side. And the feeling of your world stopping in its tracks but everyone else keeps on going.
