    I was reminded of the less-than-ideal conditions in our eldercare system. And by "less-than-ideal" I mean completely disheartening. We have de-humanized them, and locked them away.     6. How I survived Mother's Day!

    Sometimes these hallmark holidays and anniversaries feel impossible to get through. I share how I got through it and how I am still caring for myself even afterwards. I think I failed to mention that planning your own special activities on these days can be exceptionally helpful. For instance, I knew I wanted to hike and golf over Mother's Day weekend and that I did. I was glad to have made the plans and keep my body and mind active. But also allowing the time and space to feel and rest when needed. Making new memories and traditions rewires the experience. You got this and you are going to grieve well, too.
