    Would I Have Recognised Jesus?

    It seems like an easy question. If I had been alive 2,000 years ago, would I have recognised Jesus? Of course I would have. Wouldn't I? But we have something the people standing around Jesus didn't have — we know the ending. We know who He is. We know about the cross and the resurrection. We know what happens to the disciples. We read the Gospels already knowing which people recognised Him and which ones walked away. They didn't have that advantage. They encountered a man from Nazareth who gathered ordinary people around Him, ate with sinners, challenged religious authorities, healed on the Sabbath and made extraordinary claims about Himself. Some saw the Messiah. Some saw a teacher or prophet. Some saw a threat. And some simply didn't know what to make of Him. In Episode 32 of SafelyRAW, Lorraine asks an uncomfortable question: where would I actually have stood? Would I have followed? Would I have remained when His teaching became difficult? Would I have trusted Jesus when He didn't look like the Messiah I expected? And perhaps the question isn't only whether we would have recognised Jesus then. What happens when God doesn't work the way we expect Him to now?     If Nobody Notices, Does It Still Matter?

    What happens when serving God becomes tangled up with needing to feel useful? A reflection on Luke 10:20 forced Lorraine to confront something uncomfortable: sometimes seeing someone else flourish in ministry doesn't just bring joy, it can bring jealousy, comparison and the painful question, “Am I doing enough?” But beneath the desire for recognition was something deeper. If everything I do for God disappeared tomorrow, would I still believe I mattered just as much to Him? In this deeply personal episode of SafelyRAW, Lorraine reflects on serving behind the scenes, the spiritual scoreboard we can create without even realising it, the temptation to measure our contribution against somebody else's, and why another person's gifts don't diminish our own. Drawing on Luke 10:20, John 3:30 and 1 Corinthians 12, this episode explores the difference between finding our identity in what we accomplish for God and finding it simply in belonging to Him. There isn't a neat conclusion this week. This isn't a lesson Lorraine has mastered. It's one she's only just discovered she needs to learn. Because perhaps before ministry, recognition, achievement or being useful comes something far more important: Belonging.     I Can Do It Alone… But Should I?

    When does independence stop being strength and start becoming armour? After learning how to stand on her own, Lorraine has become pretty good at handling life independently. But lately, broken toilets, lights that need fixing and lawns that need mowing have been teaching her an unexpected lesson: maybe being capable doesn't mean we're supposed to carry everything alone. In this deeply personal episode of SafelyRAW, Lorraine reflects on how hurt can turn independence into self-protection, why forgiveness doesn't automatically restore trust, and the vulnerability involved in admitting that we actually need other people. Drawing on Genesis 2:18, Galatians 6:2 and the biblical picture of community, she explores the difference between healthy independence and isolation — and why allowing someone else to carry part of the load might require a different kind of strength. As another Alpha course approaches, I found myself checking registrations, hoping more names would appear. The more I reflected on it, the more I realised how easy it is to move from caring deeply about something... to quietly trying to carry an outcome that was never mine to carry. Then I realised this isn't just about Alpha. It's about every area of life where we faithfully show up without knowing what the result will be. Whether it's a ministry, a relationship, your family, your work, or a dream that God has placed on your heart, there comes a point where we've done all we can do, and we have to trust God with the rest. In this episode of SafelyRAW, I share a personal reflection on faithfulness, trust, and learning the difference between my responsibility and God's. This isn't a conversation with easy answers.
