How ice cream led me to baptism | with Jake

How ice cream led me to baptism | with Jake

We’re so grateful to be hearing from Jake today!

0:41- Jake introduces himself. Jake was raised with different faiths, his parents and grandparents having differing beliefs.
1:30- Jake’s grandfather joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints after learning about the church’s emphasis on genealogy, something he really enjoyed.
2:22- It came time for Jake to choose where to attend school. He had two major choices and ended up feeling strongly to choose a catholic school. He took some christianity classes while in school but wasn’t impacted by them.
3:04- Jake received a call that his grandfather had passed away. His bishop spoke at the funeral about life after death, which piqued Jake’s interest but only momentarily.
4:03- Jake went back to school and began noticing his dependance on alcohol. He wanted to remove himself from social situations that would cause his alcoholism to spike so he began to take on more time at one of his job locations called Sub Zero.
5:06- Jake made friends with some new coworkers who seemed very optimistic and happy. He began learning more about what made them different. He learned that they were members of the LDS Church.
6:02- One of his coworkers mentioned to Jake that she was going to get married in the temple of the LDS Church. Jake said that her response caused him to feel the spirit for the first time.
7:35- Tracey invited Jake to church for the first time after receiving her mission call. She also gave Jake a Book of Mormon with passages outlined that would be interesting to Jake.
9:44- Jake hasn’t ever been interested in reading but when he began reading the Book of Mormon, he couldn’t put the book down. He prayed about the book and learned some powerful lessons.
11:09- The missionaries kept trying to meet with Jake but he didn’t seem to have time for all of the lessons.
12:08- Jake quit drinking. He also began going on dates with Tracey, though they both knew she’d be serving a mission in just a few months.
13:00- Jake wondered if he should be baptized and said yes to the invitation from the missionaries to be baptized. And suddenly, people began questioning his intentions. Was it all just for Tracey? Did he really believe?
14:08- Jake opened his scriptures and read a powerful scripture that secured his decision to be baptized.
15:21- Jake was baptized on December 5th, less than 2 weeks before Tracey left on her mission.
16:47- Jake requested his grandfather’s patriarchal blessing and in transcript read that if his grandfather did his family history, his family on this side of the veil would receive the gospel.
18:07- Jake gives some powerful advice!

Wonderful!

I just need to say I am so grateful for what you guys are doing. I’ve been following you on Instagram for about a year but didn’t start listening until yesterday. I’ve been going through a personal faith crisis so I decided to listen and I’m already feeling better. It’s wonderful to listen to people my age give their perspectives on simple and complicated doctrine and history. Not only that but there’s research, professionals, and real people sharing as well. This is a great place for anyone who is investigating or confused that needs answers they can’t find on their own.
