The Power of Trade Offs in the Name of Emotional Avoidance

Send us Fan Mail Today as we continue seeking what it means to be a villager; we ponder questions about trade offs, our own power, and what we give up when we neglect self accountability. We explore an essay by Kristianna Smith (They/She) regarding self accountability. Kristianna Smith is a "Queer Black Visionary, Transformative Justice Mama, Liberation Cultural Worker, and Sifi/Fantasy Nerd intent on bringing the best of our collective imagination to life." They bring so much life and whimsy and care to liberation work. The title of their essay explored in todays episode is: The Victim, the Abuser, and the Hero-how white patriarchy encourages us to give up power to avoid self accountability.  As we continue to engage in the village, we want to hear your stories! Hide Your Kids Hide Your Wife Cause Here Comes Accountability...

Send us Fan Mail It's time we are intentional with examining our words, deflections, excuses, and biases. In this episode we lovingly examine our own contributions to harm and the impacts of intergenerational trauma on our perceptions. With the help of the work of Father Gregory Boyle in his book "Cherished Belonging-The Healing Power of Love in Divided Times" we seek to pull back from our quickness to "other" -which creates an easy out of our own responsibility to the collective.  Please write in and tell us your stories of being a "Villager" to your community and allowing the village to embrace you in your needs. We look forward to hearing from you!! When the "Practical" gets it wrong -A continuation of "Is Your Passion Burning or is Your Mind Just on Fire?!"

Send us Fan Mail What are we missing when we add too much importance on the practical? What might the obscured, the absurd, and flat-out unholy lend us during this time? What wisdom's might we dismiss solely due to it's queerness?  What happens when seeking leads only to more questions, lending no room for simplistic solutions?  Oof! Today's episode contends with some unwavering tensions, some we may yet be willing to acknowledge.  Joined by Evan Reinhold, a LCMHC-A and owner of Sacred Heart Fire (a psychotherapy practice in Asheville NC) He brings an embodied presence as we wrestle with dualities and complexities within what it means to be human and part of our earth.  Check him out at: https://www.evan-reinhold.com/  The writing we dive into today is: How to be Available Now, Sidenotes from the Para-pragmatic and can be found here: https://www.bayoakomolafe.net/post/how-to-be-available-now-sidenotes-from-the-para-pragmatic  Other resources mentioned in the episode:  https://www.bayoakomolafe.net/post/sanctuary-is-not-a-place https://www.bayoakomolafe.net/post/on-doors-and-cracks https://www.socialchangemap.com/ https://www.tonispencer.co.uk/poems/be-a-good-host https://www.biggestlittlefarmmovie.com/ If you enjoyed this episode please follow and rate us!! Is Your Passion Burning or Is Your Mind Just On Fire!?!

Send us Fan Mail On this episode we explore the difference between frantic action vs. embodied action and how we mistake our anxiety for urgency.  There is Nothing wrong with a sense of Urgency. It's necessary in so many situations. However, there IS a Difference between frantic urgent action vs. embodied urgent action.  Embodiment of self and emotions are no small tasks. It's important to know what contributes to the struggle of embodiment, how to know when we are avoiding embodiment, and ways to learn to safely be present and take meaningful action all while feeling attuned to our body and emotional responses.  Today Alicia Snell joins us to discuss these themes and the importance of community during these times.  You can connect with Alicia through her website: https://www.willowgracecounseling.com/alicia-snell  You can find me here: https://www.willowgracecounseling.com/shaylyn-bradshaw Support the show Thank you for showing up to our Sanity Circle!  We drop episodes on a biweekly basis so check back regularly!
