Sant Attar Singh Ji, the most widely known and respected Sant in modern times, was born at Cheema, a village in the erstwhile Jind State (now in Sangrur district of Punjab, India) on 28 March 1866. His advocacy of education for the girl-child, and blending education with spirituality show his sense of foresightedness. Even a century back, he knew that mere scientific education would only lead to destruction, and education of the girl-child would result in the whole family getting educated. Towards that end, he first set up a school for girls in 1906.

    ਵਿਆਹ ਬਾਰੇ ਛੇ ਕੁ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਸੰਤ ਜੀ ਦੋ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਦੀ ਛੁੱਟੀ ਚੀਮੇਂ ਆਏ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਵਣ, ਭਾਦਰੋਂ ਪਿੰਡ ਹੀ ਰਹੇ। ਇਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਡੇਰਾ ਭਾਈ ਬੂਟਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦੀ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਕਿ ਆਪ ਨੇ ਨਿੱਕਿਆਂ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ ਪੜ੍ਹੀ ਸੀ, ਟਹਿਲ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਵਾਈ। ਪੰਜ ਦਿਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਜਵਾਹਰਕੀ ਬੇਬੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਗਏ। ਅੱਸੂ ਚੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਕੋਹਾਟ ਪਲਟਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਾਪਸ ਅੱਪੜ ਗਏ। ਜਦ ਸੰਤ ਜੀ ਪਿੰਡ ਛੁੱਟੀ ਆਏ ਸਨ, ਤਦ ਜ਼ਿਮੀਂਦਾਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਪਿੰਡ ਬਡਰੁੱਖੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਇੱਕ ਦੋ ਵਾਰੀ ਚੀਮੇਂ ਆਇਆ। ਏਸ ਨੇ ਸੰਤ ਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਬੜਾ ਸੁਡੋਲ, ਸੁੰਦਰ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਨਹਾਰ ਨੌਜਵਾਨ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਪੁੱਤਰੀ ਮਹਾਂ ਕੌਰ ਲਈ ਯੋਗ ਵਰ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਪਰ ਸਾਕਾਂ-ਸੰਬੰਧੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ-ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕੱਤਕ ਦਾ ਮਹੀਨਾ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਗਿਆ। ਹੁਣ ਸੰਤ ਕੋਹਾਟ ਪਲਟਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਾਪਸ ਜਾ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਸਨ। © Copyright - The Kalgidhar Trust - Baru Sahib Produced by - Department of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Studies, Akal University, Talwandi Sabo, Punjab Book Reference: Gurmukh Pyare - Sant Attar Singh Ji, Mastuana Sahib Wale Written By - Sant Teja Singh ji, M.A., L.L.B. About

Sant Attar Singh Ji, the most widely known and respected Sant in modern times, was born at Cheema, a village in the erstwhile Jind State (now in Sangrur district of Punjab, India) on 28 March 1866. His advocacy of education for the girl-child, and blending education with spirituality show his sense of foresightedness. Even a century back, he knew that mere scientific education would only lead to destruction, and education of the girl-child would result in the whole family getting educated. Towards that end, he first set up a school for girls in 1906.
