Saturday Sessions – The Little Stevies

Byll and Beth Stephen joined Pete and Paul to chat about their upcoming tour and album launch. Between the years 2005 and 2013, sisters Byll and Beth Stephen, more widely known as The Little Stevies released three studio albums, an EP, and a live album. They also played over 400 shows across Australia, the USA, Canada and New Zealand. Over the last few years, as well as becoming mothers, Byll and Beth have been writing, recording and producing top-shelf kids music under the name Teeny Tiny Stevies. What started as a bit of fun at home with the kids, has since taken on a life of its own. They’ve written music for Sesame Street in the US, licensed their animated music videos to ABC KIDS TV (going on to become the second highest rating Australian program on ABC iView in 2018) and were nominated for last year’s ‘Best Children’s Album’ ARIA Award. But now they’re back with a new ‘grown ups’ album, Stopped Wishing I Was Somewhere Else, which was released on February 28. Break My Heart, the first single from their newly released album, Stopped Wishing I Was Somewhere Else, is rapidly winning fans and has already been added to Spotify’s ‘Fresh Folk’ playlist. Having six years between ‘adult’ albums has given the sisters plenty of time to experiment with their natural musical talents and develop their craft. And it clearly shows. SWIWSE boasts masterful songwriting, tear provoking narratives as well as a production credit that is their own. Making production decisions in the studio for the two kids’ albums gave Byll & Beth the confidence to go it alone for their fourth Little Stevies studio album. Sticking within the folk-pop musical landscape they’ve become known for, it’s the layered sibling harmonies of irresistible melodies, fascinatingly arranged and placed where others might use more guitar (or cowbell) which credentials this collection of songs unmistakably “by Byll and Beth”. In April & May Byll and Beth will hit the road with both bands, playing shows in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Canberra & Perth. Saturday Sessions – Trio Of Dips “Love Me Tinder”

Alex Aldrich and Joe Coghlan joined Pete and Paul to chat about their upcoming show “Love Me Tinder”. Alex and Joe are two thirds of a group called Trio Of Dips, the other third being Christian Gillett. This is seriously one of the funniest interviews Paul and I have done. We totally lost the structure of our interview because we were laughing so much at these two highly entertaining individuals. Pete even threw a musical challenge to both Alex and Joe and they certainly didn’t disappoint. ” Love Me Tinder” explores the modern world of online dating which can be a confusing and absurd place. From obsessive stalkers to kinky fetishes it can be difficult to find one’s true love. Join the Trio of Dips as they brave this new frontier and try to navigate their hilariously disastrous love lives through musical theatre classics, operetta gems, and pop power ballads. Alex, Joe and Christian have very kindly donated two double passes to Love Me Tinder for our Radiothon show next Saturday. Any new or renewed memberships during our show next Saturday 18 May will be eligible to go into the draw to win these tickets. We really appreciate Alex, Joe and Christian’s support. Love Me Tinder is on at The Butterfly Club from Monday 20 May to Saturday 25 May and 8.30pm Tickets are available through https://thebutterflyclub.com/show/trio-of-dips-love-me-tinder-2019 The post Saturday Sessions – Trio Of Dips “Love Me Tinder” appeared first on Saturday Sessions.

Saturday Sessions – Angela Norris “After You”

What an absolute delight to have Angela Norris in studio today with Pete and Dylan to chat about her show “After You”. There is a modesty and warmth about Angela that would make her a compelling person to see perform on stage. In 1961, Angela was in the Australian premiere production of The Sound of Music. The expectations of her generation, including motherhood, stopped her following that career.  Angela has now retired and her daughter Hannah saw this as the perfect opportunity to create a show with her mum. Hannah has been working professionally as an actor for 15 years across the independent and main stages of Australia. Nominee and winner of multiple Australian theatre awards, notable performances include CUT (Edinburgh & Adelaide), My Name is Rachel Corrie (Melbourne & Adelaide), Buried Child (State Theatre Company of SA), Palace of the End (Theatre Works), Let the Sunshine (Australian national tour) Osama the Hero (The Rabble) and The Turn of the Screw (State Opera SA). By looking into Angela’s past, Hannah is weighing up her own life, choices and what the future holds for them both. Hopeful, optimistic and full of love, After You will leave you believing forgotten and hidden dreams can come true. After You premiered at the 2019 Adelaide Fringe with outstanding reviews. Take the tissues and immerse yourself in a show that is a gift for its audience. “After You” is on at The Butterfly Club from 13th to 18th May at 8.30pm each night. Tickets are available though https://thebutterflyclub.com/show/after-you The post Saturday Sessions – Angela Norris “After You” appeared first on Saturday Sessions.

Saturday Sessions – Rob Tannion Circus Oz “Wunderage”

Rob joined Pete and Dylan on Saturday Sessions to chat about the latest Circus Oz offering “Wunderage” and to chat about his background and how he became the Artistic Director of the iconic Circus Oz brand. Circus Oz and Company 2 will create a mesmerising world this June with the world premiere of Wunderage – an astonishing spectacle told through breathtaking physical feats, heart-stirring live music and honest humour. Circus Oz Artistic Director, Rob Tannion, explains that Wunderage is an offbeat promenade performance that lets the audience immerse themselves in the show itself. “This show invites people to explore and be adventurous – especially as there are no seats that often create a barrier to the performance. We want our audience to step into the unknown with us and just wonder,” said Tannion. Wunderage is that latest collaboration between two Australian contemporary circus companies who invite people to dream, wonder and roam as the fantasy unfolds throughout the iconic Meat Market space in North Melbourne. Humanity, courage and fragility will be on display and suspended on a series of tight wires that intersect the space and elevated up to four metres. The tightrope between who we are and who we might become Wunderage season runs from 20-30 June at The Meat Market in North Melbourne Tickets are available through http://circusoz.com/wunderage The post Saturday Sessions – Rob Tannion Circus Oz “Wunderage” appeared first on Saturday Sessions.

It was an absolute delight to have Phoebe Panaretos and Mat Verevis in studio today to chat about the upcoming musical theatre blockbuster ” Lazarus” Lazarus was the final project of David Bowie. First staged in New York in late 2015, Lazarus has enjoyed sell out seasons in New York and London. This will be the Australian premiere of the ground-breaking musical. Featuring 18 David Bowie songs including Changes, Heroes and Absolute Beginners, Lazarus is inspired by the novel The Man Who Fell to Earth by Walter Tevis – and the movie which also starred David Bowie. The “Brilliant” (The Age) Chris Ryan, whose performance as Monty Navarro in A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder wowed Melbourne last year, takes on the lead role of Newton. Iconic singer iOTA also joins the cast in the role of Valentine. The distinguished creative team is headed by Director Michael Kantor and Musical Director Jethro Woodward. Critics called Lazarus “A must see” (Daily Mirror), “Wild, fantastical, eye-popping” (Rolling Stone), “A spectacular Bowie fantasy” (The Guardian)and “David Bowie’s parting gift to the world” (The Independent). Lazarus is on at The Playhouse Theatre at The Arts Centre from 18 May to 19 June 2019.
