The Work Podcast Episode 53 - Own It

Just got back from a couple weeks of travel and had some time to really think, reflect, and honestly zoom out on life a bit. This episode is a solo one—Greg’s out this week—but I wanted to sit down and talk through something that’s been on my mind after a post I made sparked way more backlash than I expected. Not because of the topic itself, but because of what the reaction revealed about how people are thinking right now. At the core of it, this episode is about ownership. Not perfection, not control over everything—because that’s not reality—but ownership over what you can control. Your health, your habits, your mindset, and the downstream impact those things have—not just on you, but on your kids and generations to come. There’s a lot we don’t know, but there’s also a lot we do know, and ignoring that in favor of a victim mindset is one of the most disempowering ways to live. I’m not here to judge anybody or point fingers. I’m just sharing how I see the world and what’s helped me move forward with purpose. If there’s one takeaway, it’s this: you don’t need perfect conditions to make progress—you just need to take ownership of the hand you’ve been dealt and play it to the best of your ability. That shift alone can change everything. 4. The Work Podcast Episode 52 - No Short Cuts

    APR 10

The Work Podcast Episode 52 - No Short Cuts

This episode was a bit more off-the-cuff, but honestly, that’s where some of the most real conversations happen. We started out talking about conversations with people who see the world completely differently—whether that’s vegans, opposing ideologies, or just people outside your normal circle. And the big takeaway is simple: we need more of that. Not echo chambers. Not algorithms telling you what to think. Real dialogue. Because right now, most people aren’t actually thinking for themselves—they’re outsourcing their opinions to headlines, social media, and whatever narrative is trending. That led us into a deeper conversation about philosophy, and honestly, that’s the stuff that fires me up more than anything. Training, nutrition—that’s all important—but learning how to think is the real foundation. Because once you lose that, you start chasing shortcuts, hacks, and quick fixes in every area of life. And the truth is, anything I’m actually proud of—anything that’s lasted—came from time, effort, and consistency. There’s no hack for that. You can’t fake it, you can’t shortcut it, and trying to usually just puts you further behind in the long run. So we’re doubling down on that mindset—both in life and in training. Moving away from what’s trendy and easy, and leaning into what actually works, even if it’s harder. More volume, more effort, more intention. Same thing applies outside the gym too—whether it’s parenting, health, or building something meaningful. The world is obsessed with fast results and surface-level wins, but that’s a race to the bottom. If you want something real—strength, health, legacy—you’ve got to play the long game. No shortcuts. APR 3

The Work Podcast Episode 51 - Let’s Talk Labs

This episode was a solid reminder that progress comes from understanding your body, not fearing it. We walked through blood work, hormones, and lipid panels, and the big takeaway is simple: track trends, don’t obsess over single numbers. After years of consistent ketogenic living, my markers - insulin, inflammation, overall stability - have stayed steady. That flies in the face of a lot of the narratives out there, but the data over time is what matters, not the noise. We also dug into the realities of pushing your body—whether through contest prep or extended fasting. Hormones will downregulate in a deficit, that’s just part of the game. But being fat-adapted changes the experience entirely. You’re not dragging yourself through the day - you’re still performing, still thinking clearly, still getting work done. And fasting, more than anything, exposes your habits. It shows you how much of your eating is actually hunger versus routine, boredom, or emotion. The bigger picture here is mindset. Right now, the world is chasing shortcuts -quick fixes, drugs, anything that avoids doing the work. But none of that replaces discipline. If the habits aren’t in place, the results won’t last. The people who actually succeed are the ones willing to do what’s hard, consistently, over time. That’s the difference—and that’s who we’re speaking to.  Greg Mahler is also a lifetime natural bodybuilder, and can be followed on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/ketogreg80/ Register For My FREE Masterclass: https://www.ketobodybuilding.com/registration-2 Get Keto Brick: https://www.ketobrick.com/ Subscribe to the podcast: https://open.spotify.com/show/42cjJssghqD01bdWBxRYEg?si=1XYKmPXmR4eKw2O9gGCEuQ
