    Lake Mungo

    Hey Scaredy Cats. For the longest time, I had one movie on my to watch list that was my white whale. I had seen it lauded as one of the scariest movies ever and the best horror movie you’ve never seen. I was on the hunt. It wasn’t streaming anywhere in Canada and I had resigned myself to never seeing it. But then I saw an announcement on Twitter that it was being released on blu ray by Second Sight Films. So, of course, I preordered it and paid an obscene amount of money for a movie I had never watched, assuming that internet listicles were not lying to me and that it was indeed an incredible film. That film was Lake Mungo. And let me tell you that even though it was not what I was expecting, this 2008 Australian film had a huge impact on me.  I’m your host Sherri and this is just your friendly reminder that as always there will be loads of spoilers, so if you haven’t seen the movie, go watch it!     The Final Girls

    Hey Scaredy Cats. Welcome back to the month of camp carnage. I know, I know, no one goes to camp in January, but when you’re stuck in the frozen tundra that is Ontario in the winter, you gotta do what you gotta do. As a kid growing up in the eighties, slashers were all the rage. Some of the first horror movies I saw were eighties slashers. So, I definitely have a soft spot for them and the more ridiculous the better. When I heard that there was a love letter to the subgenre with a soft marshmallow centre, I knew it was the kind of movie that I needed in my life. Did I mention that I listened to Bette Davis Eyes on repeat back in the day? Ok, so you couldn’t exactly listen to something on repeat back then. You had two options. You either made a tape with just that song on it OR you would take a couple of minutes, rewind and play again. But I digress. Let’s head to Camp Blue Finch and meet some new camp counsellors and the menacing killer who’s going to ruin all the sexy times and fun.     Friday the 13th

    In 1978, one of the greatest horror movie franchises was born. Only two years later, another one would enter the world of horror, but weirdly enough, the villain that we associate with that franchise was really just another victim in the first installment. This swerve is so famous that it even became part of another horror movie franchise, when Ghostface first asked Casey Becker, who was the killer in the first Friday the 13th movie. So, how did the franchise that would see 10 sequels, video games, comic books, a tv series and countless fan films start?
