Welcome to the first episode of the Disciples of Zeus podcast. My name is James Dent. I am a musician, entrepreneur living in Australia, and with me today I have Ethan Benstead, who is also an entrepreneur living in Australia. Ethan, how are we? I'm good, James. I'm good. How are you? I'm very well, thank you. Now, Ethan, this is our very first episode of the podcast, so we should tell everyone what they're in for. There you go, it's all good. Cheers, mate. The podcast is going to be all sorts of self-improvement, sales, entrepreneurship, making money, and just general Australian life. Is that pretty fair to say? money and just general Australian life. Is that pretty fair to say? Yeah, I would have to agree with you there, James. I think the market is very saturated at the moment. However, I do believe that we will be able to bring our own unique spin and twist. Especially with a good looking fellow like yourself, he says, as no one looks at the video because there is none. All right, tell us a little bit about yourself, Ethan. What do you do? Who are you? Why should I care? I work as a sales professional for general insurance, mainly in the car insurance space. So I sell car insurance over the phone. I've been doing sales now for the past year and a half and I think that is actually my true love in life is selling things to people. I love the process. I love to be able to change people's attitudes towards me. This is a very fulfilling, rewarding career for myself. Yeah. Very nice, sir. Well, you came to me, Ethan, with a very brilliant idea which is having a chat about our favourite book at the moment, 48 Laws of Power. So, if you aren't already familiar, the 48 Laws of Power is effectively the laws that govern human nature uh the foundation principle of the book is that all humans exist on some kind of hierarchy and it's your duty to rise to the top of that hierarchy and it just lays out a bunch of tactics and examples for doing that making sure that once you're at the top, you get to keep your position. And so, from here, next couple of episodes, we might be talking about that. And then we're going to swivel more into salesy entrepreneurship direction and we'll see where it goes from there. I think something that's really great about the 48 Laws of Power as well, James, is that you gave a great thing there as the examples in the book. Now, it's not just examples in the author's life, Robert Greene's, it's historical examples. have a look at those examples because we are doomed to repeat ourselves throughout history and if you would like to learn from the mistakes that some of the more famous historical figures made in this book yeah for sure and that is great encouragement for people to go out and read the book but correct me if i'm wrong i believe we going to link it into some more modern real life examples, especially in terms of entrepreneurship, working sales, working with customers, prospects, and trying to better our own lives with the information, not just treat it as head knowledge. I think you raise a very good point there i i personally have used quite a few of the laws um in my own personal life whether that be with uh relationships in the workplace as well as outside the workplace clients um business partners as well i think there's a lot of information that can be brought out of this book not just based on what happened historically but how we can use this book moving forward. No doubt. Well, listener, if you haven't already been turned off the idea of enjoying our company as we go through some of the best books and best ideas, then you can proceed on to the next episode right now.
