    Who Are You Really Working For? | Matt Beasley

    Ephesians 6:5–9 — Who Are You Really Working For? Paul steps into the master-and-slave relationships of the first century and reorients them completely around one shared Master in heaven.     Spirit Filled Parenting | Matt Beasley

    Ephesians 6:1–4 — Paul turns to the smallest, most overlooked voices in the room — the kids — and hands parents a charge that's bigger than good behavior: raise them in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Lead Pastor Matt Beasley continues A Study Through Ephesians at Severns Valley. Everything here still flows from being filled with the Spirit and submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ — so Paul speaks directly to children, a group with no standing at all in first-century society, and gives their honor and obedience real weight. Then he turns to parents, steering them away from two ditches — neglect on one side, controlling every decision on the other — and toward discipline and instruction that actually equips kids for life. He grounds the whole thing in Hebrews 12: God disciplines the children he loves, painful in the moment, but producing a harvest of righteousness later.     Joined for a Purpose | Brian Combs

    Ephesians 5:21–33 — Submission isn't a leash the strong hand to the weak; it's the shape of a Spirit-filled life, given and returned. Brian Combs continues A Study Through Ephesians at Severns Valley. Picking up right where Matt left off with being filled with the Spirit, Brian shows how that fullness works itself out in verse 21: submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ — a call for everyone in the room, not just wives. He walks through what that submission actually looks like in a marriage, sharing his own story of trusting God through a season of uncertain provision, then unpacks how Paul reframes headship — not authority that takes, but love that gives itself up, the way Christ gave himself for the church. From there he traces "leave and hold fast" back to Genesis, showing marriage as a picture of the gospel itself, meant to put something on display for the world.     Don’t Be Foolish | Matt Beasley

    Ephesians 5:15–21 — Paul says look carefully how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, because the days are evil. Lead Pastor Matt Beasley continues A Study Through Ephesians at Severns Valley. Paul calls us back to a whole-life kind of walking, one that's careful and deliberate rather than careless, because every part of life, work, home, friendships, money, time, is lived either in submission to Jesus or without it. Because the days are evil, we're called to make the best use of our time and to understand what the will of the Lord is, not as a formula to crack but as a life poured out for people who are lost and need to be found. Instead of being controlled by anything else, whether that's alcohol, food, sex, or whatever we hand power over to, we're called to be filled with the Spirit again and again, which shows up in how we sing to one another and how we give thanks. A few things to carry into your week: Being careful in how you walk is tiring and takes discipline, but being careless isn't neutral, it has real consequences. Redeeming the time means living so the people around you, who are lost and need Jesus, see something true in how you spend your life. Understanding God's will isn't about guessing the "right" option, it's pursuing a life poured out for others. Being filled with the Spirit is a repeated, ongoing surrender, not a one-time event, and it shapes how we worship and give thanks together.     SV Identity 2026: Make Disciples | Matt Beasley

    1 Kings 17 – 2 Kings 2 — Elijah's whole life, mountaintop fire and cave-bound despair, becomes the story of one ordinary man handing off a calling to another. Lead Pastor Matt Beasley continues SV Identity at Severns Valley. Jesus' final words in Matthew 28 aren't a command to go somewhere special, but a call to make disciples right where you already are. Lead Pastor Matt Beasley traces that call through the life of Elijah: fed at the brook and by a widow's jar of flour, victorious over the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel, then collapsed under a broom tree ready to die, only to be met by God's provision again. Out of that same brokenness, God sends Elijah to find Elisha, who leaves everything behind, walks alongside him for years, and eventually carries his mantle forward. A few things to carry into your week: Making disciples isn't a command to go somewhere new — it's what happens as you're already going, in your work, your school, your neighborhood. God's provision doesn't wait for you to have it together; He met Elijah in the wilderness at his lowest just as clearly as He met him on the mountaintop. Discipling someone doesn't mean having it all figured out — it means saying "follow me as I stumble toward Jesus," not "follow me because I'm perfect." The call to make disciples is the call to sacrifice something — your time, your comfort, your plans — to walk with someone one step closer to Jesus.     SV Identity 2026: Love People | Matt Beasley

    John 13:1–20 — Jesus washes His disciples' feet, giving us a scandalous, sacrificial pattern for what it means to love people. Lead Pastor Matt Beasley continues SV Identity at Severns Valley. Moving from the vertical to the horizontal, Lead Pastor Matt Beasley traces the night before the crucifixion, when Jesus rises from supper, wraps a towel around His waist, and washes the feet of the men gathered with Him — including Judas, who was already resolved to betray Him, and Peter, who initially refuses. Jesus' point isn't that the church needs a foot-washing ministry; it's that His followers are called to a love so obvious and so sacrificial that it looks reckless to a watching world. That pattern, Lead Pastor Matt Beasley notes, shows up not just in serving but in giving — and, most recently, in the anonymous, sacrificial ways his own church family showed up for him after the fire that took his house in July. A few things to carry into your week: Genuine love of others has to be obvious and sacrificial — not transactional, not for show. Jesus knew Judas would betray Him and washed his feet anyway; His love isn't wasted on anyone, even in our worst moments. Knowing the right thing to do isn't the same as being blessed for doing it — Jesus says blessing follows obedience, not information. The church should be struggling to find room for everyone who wants to serve, not begging people to fill empty spots.     SV Identity 2026: Love God | Matt Beasley

    1 Samuel 1–3 — What does it actually look like to love God this week — not on Sunday, but in the middle of an ordinary, hurried life? Lead Pastor Matt Beasley opens SV Identity at Severns Valley. Jesus named it plainly in Matthew 22: love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind. But for many of us that truth becomes background noise — words on a hallway wall we've stopped hearing. First Samuel gives us a family where that love gets tested for real: Hannah, wounded year after year by a rival wife's cruelty, who pours out her grief to God and stays faithful without ever being guaranteed the outcome she wanted. Meanwhile Eli's sons treat ministry like a racket, and Eli himself offers rebuke without correction — until a boy named Samuel, raised in the middle of that failure, becomes the one whose ear is open enough to hear God's voice. A few things to carry into your week: Loving God isn't attendance, politeness, or an offering — it's a whole-life surrender that reshapes everything. Hannah shows us love for God that doesn't depend on getting what we asked for. Love of God won't pass to our kids automatically — they inherit our example, for better or worse, far more than our convictions. Samuel didn't yet know the Lord, but he was sensitive enough to answer when God called — and that's the posture available to any of us today.     Psalm 100 | Logan Fisher

    Psalm 100 — The only Psalm explicitly labeled a psalm of thanksgiving calls us to something harder than showing up: it asks whether what's happening on the outside actually matches what's in our hearts. Logan continues Summer in the Psalms at Severns Valley. Psalm 100 is five verses, but they carry a full theology of worship — God doesn't just care that he is worshiped; he cares how. Logan walks verse by verse through the psalm's paired commands, showing how actions and attitudes are inseparable: an action without a holy attitude is an empty performance, and a holy attitude without action is complacent faith. Along the way, he traces how Christ fulfills every line — he is the gate of John 10, the Good Shepherd of verse three, and the one whose finished work tore the veil so we could enter God's presence fully. A few things to carry into your week: A joyful noise requires no skill, only a joyful heart — God commands our participation, not our perfection. Worship isn't a box you check on Sunday; Romans 12 calls us to present our whole lives as a living sacrifice, which means every workday, every ordinary moment is an act of service. Our theology fuels our doxology — we can't worship a God we don't know, and knowing him means intimacy, not just information. Christ is the gate. The veil tore. There's no longer anything standing between you and the full presence of God.
