    Psalm 2 | Matt Beasley

Psalm 2 — The nations rage and plot against the Lord and His Anointed — and the One enthroned in heaven laughs, because the rebellion of the finite against the infinite was never a contest. Lead Pastor Matt Beasley continues Summer in the Psalms at Severns Valley. Psalm 2 likely began as a coronation psalm for David or Solomon, written as hostile kings gathered against God's anointed king. But the psalm reaches further than any earthly throne — its "Anointed One" is fulfilled in Christ, the Son that God installs on Zion. The hard truth is that we don't need foreign kings to picture this rebellion; we have mirrors. Every return to the well of our sin is one more attempt to cast off God's good boundaries as if they were chains. And yet the same psalm that warns also invites: be wise, be warned, and kiss the Son — pledge your life to the King whose wrath is real but whose love seeks you in the middle of your waywardness and welcomes you the instant you ask Him to save you. A few things to carry into your week: - The kings' plot is "in vain" — no one can undo what God has set in place, His will, or His kingdom. - To see God's commands as oppression rather than provision is the oldest lie, going back to "Did God really say...?" in the garden. - God's response to rebellion isn't anxious handwringing or a frantic plan of attack — He sits in heaven and laughs, then sets His King in place. - The wrath of Christ is not hatred but justice — and the warning carries an invitation: turn to Him while there is still time. "What good boundary of God are you treating as a chain instead of a gift?" June 21, 2026 ——— New here, or ready to take a next step? Visit sv.church or email us anytime at info@sv.church. Psalm 13 | Mike Poole

Psalm 13 — We're experts at complaining. David shows us something harder and better: honest lament before God. Creative Arts Pastor Mike Poole opens our new series, Summer in the Psalms (2026), at Severns Valley. There's a difference between grumbling to each other and lamenting to God. In Psalm 13, David is brutally honest — four times he cries "How long?" — and God proves accessible in exactly that honesty. Mike walks the psalm from complaint (vv. 1–2) to appeal (vv. 3–4) to the turn in verses 5–6, where David lands not on answers but on trust: "But I have trusted in your steadfast love." A few things to carry into your week: - Lament moves us off the center of our own story and into an active part of God's story — wholly dependent on Him. - We tend to handle pain three ways: the silent majority ("I'm fine"), the victim who makes the struggle their identity, or honest lament — broken before God and someone we trust. - The way out of the anxiety quicksand isn't digging ourselves out; it's the finished work of Jesus. He won't waste a hurt. - God may not give you what you want through your lament, but He'll give you what you need. "What's your 'lest' — the fear you're hiding behind instead of bringing to God?" Bring the Dark to Light | Matt Beasley

Ephesians 5:6–14 — Empty words can comfort you right back into the dark; in Christ, you were made to walk as a child of light. Lead Pastor Matt Beasley continues A Study Through Ephesians at Severns Valley. Paul moves through three turns: do not be deceived, reflect the light, and expose the darkness. The "empty words" he warns about aren't harmless — they're persuasive, and they soothe us back toward the very sin Jesus rescued us from. But you were once darkness and are now light in the Lord, made to reflect Jesus into the places He pulled you out of — not by dimming the light to stay comfortable, but by letting it shine until the sleeping wake. A few things to carry into your week: - Empty words aren't powerless — they're persuasive, and they excuse the things that harm us. Weigh every message against the whole of God's Word. - You're not light on your own; you're "light in the Lord." The Spirit shines Jesus on you and through you. - The fruit of the light is goodness, rightness, and truth — and goodness looks a lot like generosity with your time, your treasure, and your talent. - Discern what pleases God by examining your motive, not just the outcome — then let the light expose the dark instead of dimming it to keep the peace. "Who in your life is still in the dark because you've kept your light dim?" June 7, 2026 ——— New here, or ready to take a next step? Visit sv.church or email us anytime at info@sv.church. Called to Imitate | Matt Beasley

Ephesians 5:1–2 — "Be imitators of God, as beloved children, and walk in love." Lead Pastor Matt Beasley continues A Study Through Ephesians at Severns Valley. Imitating God doesn't mean speaking worlds into existence or running the universe — it means displaying His character: love, mercy, kindness, even toward enemies (Luke 6). For the lost person at your work, on your street, or in your family, you may be the closest thing to God they encounter. Matt traces the "walk" Paul keeps returning to — from dead in our sins to made alive in Christ — and what it means to walk in love as people who have been rooted and grounded in it. A few things to carry into your week: - You were made to image God — to be a visible representation of Him to the people around you. - "But God, being rich in mercy…" found us dead in our sins, not on our way toward Him, and breathed life in. We love because we were first loved. - Walking in love isn't about feeling lovable or feeling loving; if you're in Christ, you have already been rooted and grounded in love. - It shows up in the hard places — holding your tongue online, the difficult conversation, seeking justice, pleading the widow's cause, giving your time and resources for someone else. "For the lost person in your life this week, what would it look like to simply stand in the place of God for them?" May 31, 2026 ——— New here, or ready to take a next step? Live it Out! Truth, Grace, and Forgiveness | Matt Beasley

Ephesians 4:25–32 — What does a church actually feel like when the gospel reshapes it? Lead Pastor Matt Beasley continues A Study Through Ephesians at Severns Valley. Paul isn't describing the world out there; he's describing the climate among us in here — a redeemed people learning to live it out. Matt walks the marks of that culture: truth-telling because we are members of one another, anger that gets dealt with before sundown, work that's generous instead of grasping, speech that builds up and gives grace, and the hard, beautiful center of it all — forgiving one another as God in Christ forgave us. A few things to carry into your week: - We tell the truth because we belong to each other — saying "I'm fine" when we're not quietly weakens the whole body. - Don't let the sun go down on your anger: get curious about what's underneath it instead of dressing it up as "irritability" and handing the enemy a foothold. - The gospel doesn't just stop the old behavior; it turns us outward — the thief becomes the one who works in order to give. - Putting away bitterness isn't trying harder; it's submitting to the Spirit and crying out, "Help me — I can't forgive this on my own." "When you forgive someone, you pay the price for their offense — with grace you've been given, not grace you produced. Who is God asking you to forgive?" Renewed in Christ | Matt Beasley

Ephesians 4:17–24 — Put off the old self and put on the new. But this is no behavior makeover. Lead Pastor Matt Beasley continues A Study Through Ephesians at Severns Valley. Paul says we no longer walk as we once did — and the danger is hearing that and feeling superior, when every one of us was once there. We aren't changed by life modification or a propositional trade ("I'll take the good and dodge the bad"); we're transformed by spending time with Jesus, dying to the old self, and being clothed in His righteousness. A few things to carry into your week: - Renewal isn't behavior modification — it's learning Jesus by being with Him (Matthew 11: "come to me… learn from me"). - Putting on the new self means dying to the old: "no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me." - When you look in the mirror, the aim is to see Christ's righteousness, not your own record. - When you sin, the enemy says "this is who you really are" — that's a lie; Christ has clothed you in His righteousness and holds it fast. "When the enemy whispers that your failure is your true identity, will you believe the lie — or the righteousness Christ has clothed you in?" May 17, 2026 ——— New here, or ready to take a next step? Equipped to Serve, Gift to Grow in Love | Matt Beasley

Ephesians 4:11–16 — Christ gives leaders to equip the saints, until we all grow up into Him. Lead Pastor Matt Beasley continues A Study Through Ephesians at Severns Valley. Whether on the stage or in the seats, every one of us shares the same backstory — once dead in our sins (Ephesians 2:1). The gifts and leaders Christ gives aren't there to do ministry for us, but to equip every member, so the whole body grows to maturity. It's a group project that only works when all of us give our full engagement. A few things to carry into your week: - Leaders and laity share the same genesis — no one in the room is a different kind of Christian. - Your gifts, and even the seat you sit in, are meant for someone else's benefit, not your comfort or applause. - The finish line is "until we all attain… the measure of the fullness of Christ" — together, or not at all. - Heart check: serving to feel useful or appreciated is the wrong motive; serve so others look more like Jesus. "What would it look like this week to pursue Jesus for the benefit of the people around you — not so you'd be happier, but so they'd look more like Him?" Grace for Each of Us, Gifts for All of Us | Matt Beasley

Ephesians 4:7–16 — "To each one of us grace was given." Gifts handed to each, for the good of all. Lead Pastor Matt Beasley continues A Study Through Ephesians at Severns Valley. This is the hinge between the unity Paul has described and how we actually live it out: God's grace, given to each of us, empowers us to work together. Our gifts were never meant to make us feel useful — they're sovereignly placed for the benefit of the people around us, and used in love they build the whole body up. A few things to carry into your week: - Grace is measured out to each of us — no one is left ungifted. - "It requires all of us to help any of us" — gifts are for the body, not the self. - If your gifts aren't operating for someone else's good, they aren't really being used. - God placed you in your church on purpose; gifts used in unity put the glory of Jesus on display — here, near, and far. "What has God gifted you — and whose life is it meant to build up?" May 3, 2026 ——— New here, or ready to take a next step? Visit sv.church or email us anytime at info@sv.church.
