MIND: Sanjith Shetty is a man on a menopause mission
Sanjith and I connected over LinkedIn and the topic "menopause". My curiosity was piqued. I'm used to seeing fellow GenX women building resources and advocating for better menopause care at work and home, so to speak with Sanjith who has invested in menopause care, was brilliant. Sanjith is obviously passionate about helping the 150 million women in India in menopause, but he's not planning on stopping there! By 2025, there will be 1 billion women globally in the menopause life stage and there is much work to be done to support them. I'm voting for Sanjith as "Male Menopause Advocate of the Year", joint award with my ever supportive husband, Dave Nuku.

BODY: The whole down low on Surgical Menopause with Dr Linda Dear
Following on from Episodes 74 and 75 with women who have experienced a hysterectomy and been thrown into surgical menopause, I unpack this topic with Dr Linda Dear, MBBS, FRNZCGP, BA (Hons) Psychology, DRCOG, NCMP and NAMS Certified Menopause Practitioner.
Linda answers the following questions (and more):
* What exactly is surgical menopause?
* What are the reasons a woman would have a hysterectomy?
* What's the difference between a natural and surgical menopause?
* What do women need to know about post surgery care and the onset of menopause?
* How does HRT support surgical menopause and how is it used?
* And what about testosterone?
This is a very in depth episode on this topic and I have been honoured to have the opportunity to speak with Dr Linda and my other guests to learn about this.

MIND: From Trauma to Healing in Midlife
Warning: there is a discussion that touches on sexual abuse that may be triggering
Rebecca E Chandler is an author and survivor of childhood sexual abuse. Her book “It Won’t Hurt None – A Story of Courage, Healing, and a Return to Wholeness” details her journey from the depths of trauma to a place of hope and healing, offering a roadmap for others who are struggling with similar issues. In the book, she shares how she struggled with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) and was often misdiagnosed by medical professionals.
However, through years of therapy and self-reflection, Rebecca was able to heal and reclaim her voice and her power.
In addition to her memoir, Rebecca has also written a companion journal called “Hurt No More – Grow a Foundation for Healing”. The journal offers a step-by-step guide to help others process their own trauma and find their own path to healing.

BODY: Surgical Menopause: a personal story
Emilie Joyal is a French Canadian living in New Zealand. Faced with a diagnosis for endometriosis and pre-cancerous cells on her ovaries, Emilie was advised to have a hysterectomy at 40. Emilie shares her experience and advice for women considering having a hysterectomy and we discuss, at length, the effects on woman’s hormones and the inevitable acceleration into menopause.
Emilie's experience was confusing and traumatic, as it often is for women when they don't have the full information they need to go through surgery, recover well and feel supported as they enter forced menopause. Emilie is the Founder of Surgical Menopause New Zealand and has set up a Facebook Community for other woman seeking evidence-based content and support.

BODY: Menopause for the South Asian Woman
As I come closer to 24 months of podcast episodes for Sexy Ageing, it feels like my list of questions are getting longer! one of the BIG questions is "How are women in other countries, cultures and belief systems managing their menopause?" A very general question that has a lot to unpack!
In this episode, I'm starting with South Asian women and I interviewed Dr Shashi Prasad, an Indian Hindu rational living and working in the UK.
Dr Shashi is a very experienced GP, British Menopause Society accredited Advanced Menopause Specialist and Board- Certified Lifestyle Medicine Physician.
She has worked in the NHS and privately for many years providing a high standard of care to her patients. During her work as a GP, she noted a huge unmet need for good quality menopause care. This motivated her to start her journey as a menopause specialist and complete her training from King’s College Hospital, one of the leading menopause centres in the UK.
In this episode, we discuss:
* Dr Shashi’s motivation to train as a menopause specialist
* The differences for women in ethnic minorities accessing information, having conversation and support from their doctors.
* Dr Shashi’s personal experience with menopause and the incidence of South Asian women seeking her help.
* The higher risk of metabolic syndrome and diabetes in South Asian women and how menopause symptoms affect midlife health.
* The complete lack of resources in Hindi language - is there a menopause symptom tracker for other languages?
* The main menopause symptoms of South Asian women.
I'm looking forward to speaking with more women on the topic of Race, Culture and Menopause for a more inclusive conversation.

Customer Reviews
Love this Podcast!!
I need to reach out and ‘Thank you’ for having this conversation and for your frank but approachable attitude toward it all. I’ve only just tuned in and heard a couple of episodes so far and what a relief! Hearing you (and your lovely husband) discuss the topic of menopause has been a literal life line for me. I’m just 44 and have actually been actively trying to conceive a baby with my new husband. We started trying as soon as we got together 4 years ago, without luck unfortunately. My own mum passed away when I was only 19 and with no other female friends or family around me that I can turn to for counsel, I have been like a leaf blowing in the wind for the last few years. I suspect that the earliest symptoms of peri menopause started for me about 2 years ago (now that I’m aware of what they are) and combined with the pressure of wanting so badly to be pregnant, but instead just having longer periods, more severe PMS, increased anxiety and depression - adding to that, our wedding had been canceled due to COVID (we did elope), fertility treatments coming to a stop (and failing) the crazy stresses of being a newly married couple, moving and job changes and simultaneously becoming a full time stepmother to a 6 year old daughter....I have been feeling so so lost and could not see my way straight. I’m so glad that I found your pod cast and the fact that you’re kiwi and have such a lovely accent brings my soul so much peace and joy (my mum is from NZ). It almost makes me feel like she’s with me through this and you cannot even understand how much comfort that brings to me. So I’m sorry for this long rambling review post, you may never even read it but please know that you have made a huge difference for me. You’re super great and easy to listen to and speak to really relevant topics that we need to hear more of. I’ve had literally zero help from the several doctors I’ve seen. I look forward to joining you for many more conversations. With love and gratitude, Leah. 💟
It’s About Time!
Way to start this conversation and normalize it. Ty!
