Shana Says

Shana Liu

Hi friend, I’m Shana. Welcome to my podcast, my wonderland. This podcast is where I practice saying the thoughts that are not always easy to share in daily life. I use it to wire my thoughts out and discover what they can become once they take shape outside my head. Sometimes they arrive as reflections on my life. Other times they are small curiosities that appear while I am walking, reading, or simply letting my mind wander, and they begin to feel too alive to ignore. If you enjoy listening to someone think out loud, moving between the serious and the silly, the everyday and the abstract, you might find something here that feels familiar enough to keep you company. I hope these episodes leave you with a little more curiosity, calm, and joy for your own journey.

    Rednote Addiction 小红书上瘾症

Hello everyone! Welcome to the first episode of my podcast in 2025! The year has just begun, and I've been living a fulfilling life, meeting many friends. We all coincidentally discussed the topic of social media addiction. I realized that in the past year, I spent a lot of time on social media, especially Xiaohongshu (Rednote), a Chinese community known as "the best search engine," which is also a time-consuming black hole that can be addictive. In this episode of the podcast, I will explore the following topics: Why is Xiaohongshu so attractive? Why can't we stop scrolling? And how to balance the use of social media with living a good real life. 0:00 Why This Episode Theme? Because last year I spent too much time on social media, and this has been bothering me. So in the first episode of the new year, I want to talk about how social media platforms like Xiaohongshu have impacted me (both the good and the bad), as well as some changes I've made in response to these impacts. 3:00 Xiaohongshu Became My "Digital Mentor" After moving to the United States, I initially felt very helpless. Xiaohongshu became my life guide, helping solve daily problems, such as shopping, adapting to a new environment, and even making friends. So the experience sharing on Xiaohongshu is indeed very helpful, which is why it's hard for us to give it up. 5:10 How Social Media Controls Your Emotions The mechanism of social media is essentially to stimulate extreme emotions through content design, leading to emotional addiction. This seems to solve problems of boredom and loneliness but also traps us in a cycle of loneliness. 6:50 The "Ideal Life" Trap of Xiaohongshu All the content we see is actually highly curated and carefully edited. This "idealization" can make people feel dissatisfied with their own ordinary lives. 8:40 Some Tips to Break Addiction In this section, I will share a few tips on how I personally break "addiction," such as setting time limits, hiding apps, and redefining the purpose of social media to reduce scrolling time. Finally, I hope you enjoy this episode! I still believe Xiaohongshu is a very useful platform, but we need to learn how to establish a healthier relationship with it. If you also have related experiences or thoughts, feel free to leave a comment and share! Thank you for listening, and see you next time!
