87: The shutdown. How to close out your day and create capacity.

A client told me she was overwhelmed, so I asked her what was overwhelming her. Work, her kids, her husband, herself. I asked what her expectation was and she said to do all of it, perfectly. I asked if that list was realistic and she said no.She wasn't overloaded. She was carrying a list she had already decided was impossible, and she had never once said that out loud. You think you have too much to do. You might be right. That's still not why nothing is getting done.In this solo episode I make the case that your brain runs like your laptop. Your plate is the hard drive, and files can sit there forever costing you nothing. Your capacity is what's actually running. The grocery list, the conversation you keep not having with an employee, the proposal, the quarter numbers, the workout you skipped, those aren't sitting on the plate. They're open. And they pull from the exact capacity you need to do any one of them.Things stay open because they don't have a place to go, not because you haven't decided about them. Free floating is what costs you. You're not out of capacity. Yours is locked up.Think about how good it feels to write the whole thing down when you're maxed out. Nothing got done, not one item, and the load dropped anyway, because for a minute those things had somewhere to sit instead of running in the background. That's the whole mechanism, and it's also why Monday feels clear and Thursday feels impossible when the list is the same size. Sleep restores your supply. It doesn't close a single tab. Then I give you the fix, and it happens in the evening, not the morning. In this episode, you'll hear:The difference between having too much to do and holding too much, and why only one of them is the actual problemWhy things stay open, and why it has nothing to do with whether you've made a decision about themWhy Monday feels clear and Thursday feels maxed out on the same size listThe three questions I write down with a pen and paper before I leave the office, and why not one thing on that list gets doneThe ten minutes my morning mindset journal takes if I haven't touched my phone, and the thirty it takes if I haveIf you know somebody who keeps saying there's too much on their plate, this is the episode to send them.

    86: You're Not Overwhelmed. You're Undecided.

You keep telling yourself the same thing: there's just too much on my plate. But Angie dug into the capacity research and found the story is backwards. In a study of more than 800,000 workers, the biggest drain on capacity wasn't the volume of work or conflicting information, it was the lack of clarity, not knowing what was actually theirs to own. In other words, it's not what's on your plate. It's everything on it you haven't decided yet. In this solo episode, Angie breaks down why the decisions you don't make are the most expensive ones you'll ever carry, the ones that tap you on the shoulder again and again, quietly taxing the same mental capacity you need to actually decide. She walks through the three kinds of decisions (the free ones already built into who you are, the cheap ones you make once and commit to, and the costly open loops), then hands you a simple practice: list what's undecided, then either decide it now or schedule when you'll decide it. Because scheduling a decision isn't indecision, it's deciding to decide, and that alone closes the leak. The takeaway is yours to use today: close the open loops, and watch your capacity come back. In this episode, you'll hear: What 800,000 workers named as their single biggest capacity drainWhy the decision you keep putting off costs you more than the one you makeThe "brain battery" math, what a day of your capacity is actually worthHow scheduling a decision for later frees you up as much as making it nowThe reason the Morning Mindset Journal leaves your whole day feeling different

85: The Capacity Leak Nobody Talks About, with Dr. Anna Marie Frank

You already know the obvious leaks. Ruminating at midnight, saying yes when you meant no, running on four hours of sleep and a lot of coffee. There is a fourth one, and almost nobody names it, because it does not look like a leak. It looks like being good at your job.It is the energy you spend overriding yourself. Every time your body says no and you stay in the room anyway.Dr. Anna Marie Frank, naturopath and founder of Happy Whole You, did it for eighteen years inside a career she knew she needed to leave. At 38 an MRI came back and a doctor told her she needed a hip replacement. Then autoimmune markers showed up in her bloodwork. She walked away on her 40th birthday, and within a year the markers improved and the hip she was told to replace felt fine. She never had the surgery. In this episode she teaches Angie how to read the signals most of us have filed under "just how I am," and the two of them get into why the mental work alone never closes this particular leak. Your capacity is your most precious resource, and this conversation is about where it goes when you are not looking. In this conversation, you'll hear:- Why you can do all the mental work on a pattern and still watch yourself run it again- What a 2 to 3am wake-up points to, and why 1am means something different- The 60-second reset Anna Marie walks Angie through on the spot, which you can do tonight in bed- The moment she feels Angie's ear and lands on something from when Angie was four years oldAlso in this one: what a quivering tongue says about your nervous system, why Anna Marie has to stop friends from screenshotting dating profiles for her to read, and the one ear shape she says to run from.Connect with Dr. Anna Marie Frank: her book Stop Bullying Yourself, her free quantum assessment, her supplement line including Calm You and Bloatless, and Happy Whole You.
