    Cultivating Peace This Summer

Let's Talk Coaching! Are you ready to close the gap between where you are and where you feel called to go? Whether you're stuck on what's next … need a shot of encouragement … or have some past hurts that need tending, I'd be honored to serve as your coach as you work through this season. Schedule a call today to unlock your next breakthrough! https://calendly.com/annahmclaughlin/coaching-curiosity-call If you have questions before booking the curiosity call, feel free to message me at 704.810.1181 or on Instagram at @‌sheconsidersafield!       Episode Description June rolls around and we're convinced this summer will be different - calm, restful, intentional. Then August hits and we're running on fumes. In this episode, Anna walks you through a simple, practical process to plan your summer before it gets away from you. No printed guides needed - just press play and do the work right here.   Key Points Don't "die at the door" — the tendency to hold it together all season, only to completely unravel right at the finish line. Name it, and you can catch it. Start with abiding. Burnout comes from doing before being. Fruit flows from resting in God first. Pick your one word. How do you want this summer to feel looking back in mid-August? Peaceful? Playful? Connected? Get specific. Take stock of your people. What does each family member need? What are the true non-negotiables vs. the nice-to-haves? Brain dump everything, then filter. List all commitments, then ask: What do I want? What do I want more? Let your calendar reflect your values. If peace is the goal but every slot is filled, something has to go. Guard the white space. Empty blocks aren't wasted time — they're where wonder lives. You are the heartbeat and culture-keeper of your home. That work matters, and it requires margin. Scriptures Referenced John 15 — Abiding in the vine; bearing fruit flows from connection, not striving Resources & Books Mentioned The Next Right Thing by Emily P. Look Up: Finding Limitless Joy | with Kristin Kurtz

Let's Talk Coaching! Are you ready to close the gap between where you are and where you feel called to go? Whether you're stuck on what's next … need a shot of encouragement … or have some past hurts that need tending, I'd be honored to serve as your coach as you work through this season. Anna sits down with Kristin Kurtz, founder of New Wings Coaching and host of the Hope Unlocked podcast, for a warm, real, and wonder-filled conversation about rediscovering joy in the middle of hard seasons. From butterflies to eagles to dimes on the ground, Kristin shares how slowing down and noticing the small things can completely reframe your perspective — and unlock a life of genuine gratitude and Kingdom purpose. Key Points Slow down to see God in the details. Moving too fast means missing the ways God is tapping you on the shoulder — through nature, people, small signs, and divine appointments. Seasons of hiddenness are productive. Like a butterfly in a cocoon, seasons where you feel hidden or "unproductive" are often where the deepest transformation happens. Your DNA is intact — you're being put back together. Redefine success. Ask daily: Lord, what does success look like in your eyes today? Showing up — even imperfectly — is often the answer. The interruptions are often the assignment. The person at the grocery store, the unexpected call — don't be so focused on your agenda that you miss what God actually sent you there for. Chin check. Keep your head up — literally and spiritually. Heads-down posture creates depression in the body and closes your eyes to what's around you. Gideon's 300 warriors were chosen partly because they kept their chins up while drinking. Practice "10 Thankfuls" daily. Even on the hardest days, find 10 things to be grateful for — even the eraser on a pencil or 5 seconds of sunshine. Find your "God nuggets." Don't let a day pass without identifying at least one blessing — a Godwink, a verse that kept appearing, a moment of unexpected grace. Ask God to activate your wonder. Pray: Lord, activate the wonder in me. Then ask: What do I actually love? Especially if you've been in an overwhelmed season and lost touch with yourself. Scriptures Referenced James 1:2–4 — "Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness…that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing." Romans 8:28 — All things work together for good. Psalm 34:5 — "Those who look to Him are radiant; their faces shall not be covered with shame." The hymn "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus" is also referenced.   Resources & Mentions Journey App — Kristin's journaling app where she tracks daily thankfuls and photos of small blessings Wilderness Fellowship, Wisconsin — A prayer cabin retreat Kristin recommends for time alone with God in nature     Connect with Kristin Kurtz Instagram: @‌renew.wings Website: http://newwingscoaching.net Hope Unlocked Podcast — Kristin's podcast; catch Anna McLaughlin's guest episode here -https://hopeunlocked.buzzsprout.com/1978234/episodes/19150322-she-looked-successful-so-why-did-her-soul-feel-trapped-with-anna-mclaughlin       Connect Leave a Review — Enjoying the show? Going Back to Egypt

Anna unpacks the biblical arc of Egypt, from sanctuary to slavery to redemption, and invites listeners to reconsider whether "going back" is really regression — or restoration.   Key Points The shame spiral of finding yourself back where you swore you'd never be — and why it doesn't mean you failed or misheard God Egypt in Scripture wasn't only a place of bondage; it began as sanctuary (Joseph's story) and was later redeemed by Christ's own feet The Israelites' repeated pull back to Egypt reflects how we can become devoted to our own bondage — mistaking familiar pain for safety God sometimes leads us back to hard places not to re-enslave us, but to break the association and reclaim that ground True freedom isn't a long list of places, people, or seasons you've closed off forever — that's its own kind of bondage True courage (Hebrew root: "to fasten") means being so rooted in the vine you'll go wherever He leads — even back   Scriptures Referenced Genesis 50:20 — Joseph to his brothers: "You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good" Jeremiah 42–43 — God's warning to Judah's remnant not to flee to Egypt for safety Hosea 11:1 — "Out of Egypt I have called my son" Matthew 2 — The holy family's flight to Egypt and return 1 Corinthians 10 — "All things are lawful, but not all things are beneficial"; do everything for the glory of God Hebrews 10 — Christ's single offering has sanctified and perfected; the ground you walk on is holy because He made it so John 15 — Abiding in the vine Psalm (referenced loosely) — "Do not trust in princes and mighty men who cannot save" Resources & Mentions Previous episode: True Courage — https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/courage-weve-had-it-all-wrong/id1714745503?i=1000751720364  Anna references her episode on the Hebrew meaning of courage ("to fasten"); recommended listening alongside this one   Connect Leave a Review — Enjoying the show? Together, they unpack how journaling is so much more than simply recording daily events; it can become a sacred space to process emotions, hear from God, find healing, and make sense of the stories we are living. Drawing from her own experience helping women build reflective writing habits, Allison shares how putting pen to paper can deepen intimacy with God, reveal patterns of grace, and create room for clarity in difficult seasons. This conversation is a beautiful invitation to slow down, pay attention, and discover how a simple journal can become a powerful companion in your faith journey. Key Takeaways Journaling is a spiritual formation tool, not just a diary — it's where your words and God's Word meet on the page Writing slows us down and engages the whole brain, creating what neuroscientists call integration — what the Bible calls shalom Journaling helps move us out of fight-or-flight and into logic, reasoning, and healing We don't need control — we need the ability to make meaning out of what we're experiencing An unexamined life leaves gifts on the table Start with just 5 minutes — write whatever question is keeping you up at night Your journal is an audience of one — no rules, no performance, just honesty before the Lord Journaling isn't only for hard seasons — recording joy and gratitude is equally transformational Journaling is an act of naming things, and there's power in naming Scriptures Referenced Parable of the New Wineskins (Matthew 9 / Mark 2 / Luke 5) "Think about whatever is good, praiseworthy..." The Power of Fasting

Let's Talk Coaching! Are you ready to close the gap between where you are and where you feel called to go? Whether you're stuck on what's next … need a shot of encouragement … or have some past hurts that need tending, I'd be honored to serve as your coach as you work through this season. She walks through the biblical foundation of fasting, shares what Scripture says about how and when to fast, and opens up about some of her own most meaningful fasting experiences, including a 40-day fast that she believes helped bring her husband into her life. Key Points The Hebrew word for fasting (tsum) literally means "to cover the mouth" — it's rooted in physical denial, not just giving something up spiritually The only direct Old Testament mandate to fast is the Day of Atonement (Leviticus 16), now fulfilled in Christ Jesus assumes his followers will fast (Matthew 6:16) — he just reframes the heart behind it Isaiah 58 is the clearest picture of what God actually wants in a fast: justice, generosity, and outward love — not just personal piety Fasting is most powerful when you feel stuck, anxious, or like you're not breaking through in prayer It's not a magic trick — it's submission. As C.S. Lewis puts it, we don't pray to change God's mind; he changes ours Anna's practical tip: try a dinner-to-dinner fast (e.g., 5pm to 5pm) as a gentler entry point A fast doesn't have to be food — but true fasting in Scripture is physical denial Scriptures Referenced Leviticus 16:29 — The Day of Atonement fast Luke 5 — The Pharisees question Jesus about fasting; the Bridegroom passage Matthew 6:16–18 — Jesus on how to fast (secretly, joyfully) Ecclesiastes 9:7–9 — Anoint your head, enjoy life Isaiah 58 — God's vision of a true fast Isaiah 59 — The Lord's hand is not too short to save Daniel 1 — The Daniel fast (fruits, vegetables, water) 2 Samuel 12 — David fasting over his ill child Resources Mentioned Strong's Concordance — Free online at BlueLetterBible.org C.S. When You're In the Middle of a Prayer... Interview with Hope Johnson

Let's Talk Coaching! Are you ready to close the gap between where you are and where you feel called to go? Whether you're stuck on what's next … need a shot of encouragement … or have some past hurts that need tending, I'd be honored to serve as your coach as you work through this season. Schedule a call today: https://calendly.com/annahmclaughlin/coaching-curiosity-call If you have questions before booking the curiosity call, feel free to message me at 7804.810.1181 or on Facebook / Instagram! About this Episode Anna sits down with author Hope Johnson to talk about one of the hardest places to be as a believer — the unanswered prayer. Hope vulnerably shares her 20+ year journey of longing for marriage and family, and how that waiting has shaped her faith. Together they explore what it actually looks like to trust God when the answer hasn't come, how to quiet outside voices to hear His, and why our deepest desires aren't a sign He's forgotten us. Key Takeaways God loved Lazarus — and stayed away anyway. His delays aren't indifference; they're often the setup for something of greater, eternal value. Rehearse God's promises daily. Watch the ratio of doomscrolling to Scripture time. Find a truth-telling buddy — someone who will sit with you all the way through the pain and then point you back to Jesus. Silence other voices for a season. Forum shopping (chasing everyone else's marching orders) pulls us away from what God is personally saying to us. Turning faith into a formula is a form of idolatry — treating God like a pagan deity who needs to be appeased rather than a Father who loves us. Two signs you're attuned to Him: the answer in your heart lines up with Scripture, and there's peace from the Holy Spirit — even if it doesn't make sense to others. You have not slipped through the cracks. He has not forgotten you. Scriptures Referenced John 11:5–6, 45 — The raising of Lazarus; Jesus loved them, so he stayed away Hebrews 11:13 — Living by faith without seeing the promise fulfilled Isaiah 64:4 — No eye has seen what God does for those who wait on Him Philippians 3 — "Not that I have attained… but I press on" Joshua 1:9 — Be strong and courageous (two Hebrew words both meaning courage — grab hold, be transformed) Romans 14 — Each one acts before their own Master; the Lord will cause them to stand Job 38 — God speaks from the whirlwind: "Where were you?" About

Do you have big dreams rooted in an even bigger God … but most days, those dreams seem impossibly far out of reach? Welcome to Overwhelmed to Overcomer podcast, where we unpack and celebrate the unique purpose the Lord has given each of us, and how we can walk it out more fully - with deeper JOY - today, right in the midst of the madness. Together, we will come to trust the Father's deep love for us and our incredible value as one of His children, called to steward well the gifts He's given us … we will unpack and walk out our own unique, God-given purpose … and we will encourage one another to operate in that purpose in our daily lives with courage, leaning into the support of fellow sojourners. In this podcast, you'll find practical, tactical steps; honest conversations; and my-heart-to-yours invitations to rest and receive at the feet of the God who sees you as you steward well His calling for your life. The Lord has called us to do a thing - and He'll not only equip us, but also fortify and fuel us along the way. So, let's dig into this conversation of belonging … purpose … and courage. Sweet friend, your. life. MATTERS. So, if you're here for this, I'm here for you! Let's do this thing. With clarity. With courage. With each other.
