The Falcons of Melbourne

Our first episode back after lockdown! We recorded this a few weeks ago, when we could first see each other again. What started off as a discussion about the Peregrine Falcons of Melbourne, turned into something a lot deeper. This episode will introduce you to Harold, Bernie's Dad, my Great Grandfather. A man with a work ethic like no other. It is evident through the tone in Nan's voice how much love she had for her Dad and it was beautiful to listen as she recounted her childhood stories.

The Great Depression

Human nature is an extraordinary thing and what you will hear over the next hour is proof of that. This is quite a heavy episode as Bernie recalls what it was like to be a child growing up in the depression. The unimaginable horrors that came with having no money and the treatment received from others. Yet amongst it all was the unwavering love within her family. This won't leave you with a warm feeling but it may leave you a renewed sense of gratitude for what you do have and the times in which we live. I know it certainly did that for me. Sitting beside my Nan as she relived her memories was quite hard and it certainly gave me a huge insight into the woman she became.

For many years I have wanted to document our family history, from the point of view of my grandmother. She loves a chat and is very curious about the lives of others, so what better platform than a podcast.
