    Stop Arguing With the Enemy—You’ll Never Win That Conversation | Isaiah 36–39 I think this is stronger than a generic Hezekiah title because it immediately applies these chapters to the viewer’s life. Not every voice deserves an answer. Some lies need to be challenged. Some situations require action. But there are times when the worst thing you can do is sit down and start negotiating with the enemy. That's one of the lessons hiding in the incredible story of Hezekiah in Isaiah 36–39. Jerusalem is surrounded by an Assyrian army. The enemy stands outside the city walls and begins talking. And talking. And talking. He promises them an easier life. He questions whether God can really save them. He tries to create fear. He even invokes God's name while doing it. It sounds remarkably familiar. And Hezekiah gives his people a simple command: Don't answer him. In this episode of Simple Discipleship, we talk about what that looks like for followers of Jesus today. What do you do with the voices that tell you: You're not enough. God isn't going to come through. Everybody else is doing it. There's an easier way. Just compromise this once. The enemy doesn't always need you to believe the lie immediately. Sometimes he just needs you to enter the conversation. We talk about: ⚔️ Why you can't negotiate with the enemy🗣️ Why sometimes the best response is no response at all📖 Why God's Word—not our debating ability—is our defense🙏 What Hezekiah teaches us about prayer when the situation looks impossible💪 Trusting God with things we simply cannot fix ourselves⏳ Hezekiah's sickness and the mystery of prayer and God's sovereignty❤️ What it means to pray, “Your will be done”🏆 Why we need to guard our hearts after a victory👑 How pride became Hezekiah's vulnerability after God delivered him✝️ Why our only sure foundation is God's Word One of the most sobering parts of Hezekiah's story happens after his victory. God miraculously delivers Jerusalem. God answers Hezekiah's prayer. God gives him additional years of life. And then another enemy arrives with a completely different strategy. This time, instead of intimidating Hezekiah, they flatter him. Hezekiah opens the doors and proudly shows the Babylonians everything he has.  That's a warning worth remembering: If fear doesn't get you, maybe pride will. If hardship doesn't pull you away from God, maybe success will. If intimidation doesn't work, maybe flattery will. That's why one of the most important moments to watch your heart is after God gives you the victory. Hezekiah also shows us where to go when we're facing something we cannot defeat or fix: Go to God. Prayer isn't about manipulating God into giving us our preferred outcome. It's learning to align ourselves with Him until we can say: God, I trust You—even when Your answer isn't the answer I wanted. That's real peace: knowing that whatever happens, we belong to Him. So maybe there's a question worth asking today: Stop arguing with the lie. Stop trying to prove yourself. Stop letting the enemy determine what you think about all day. Open God's Word. Go to God in prayer. Trust Him with what you can't control.     You Can Look Religious and Still Be Far From God | Isaiah 28–35

    I think this is especially strong for your audience. A committed Christian sees that title and almost has to ask, “Could that be me?” What if you can say the right things, attend church, know your Bible—and still have a heart that's far from God? That's exactly the warning Isaiah gives. The people of Judah weren't irreligious. They knew how to talk about God. They had their traditions. They looked spiritual. But God saw something everyone else couldn't: Their hearts. “These people honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me.” Jesus would later quote those very words. And that's where this week's conversation through Isaiah 28–35 gets uncomfortable—in a good way. Because it's easy to look at ancient Israel and wonder how they could keep turning away from God. But then Isaiah starts sounding a lot like us. When trouble came, they ran to Egypt instead of God. We have our own “Egypts.” 💰 Money🏛️ Government👥 Other people🧠 Our own intelligence💪 Our ability to stay in control Your Egypt can be anything you instinctively run to instead of God. And God keeps saying: Come back to Me. In Isaiah 30, He gives them this incredible invitation: “In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and confidence shall be your strength.” Then come four heartbreaking words: “But you would not.” In this episode of Simple Discipleship, we talk about: 🙏 The difference between knowing religion and actually knowing God🎭 Why spiritual pride is so dangerous📖 Why Scripture requires more than a quick reading—“line upon line, precept upon precept”📱 What short-form culture may be doing to our ability to sit with God's Word⚠️ Why we shouldn't avoid the Bible's teaching about sin and judgment🏃 The things we run to instead of God👂 Why people sometimes want teachers to tell them “pleasant things” rather than truth🪨 Why Jesus is the only foundation strong enough to build your life upon❤️ Why God's judgment and His desire to save aren't contradictions👑 The incredible promise that one day “your eyes will see the King in His beauty”🛣️ The “Highway of Holiness” that ultimately points us toward our hope in Christ Isaiah says God lays down “a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation.” The question is: What are you building your life on? These chapters eventually take us somewhere beautiful. From judgment... to a King. From blindness... to opened eyes. From wandering... to a highway home. From sorrow... to everlasting joy. Isaiah 35 says the redeemed will return with singing, “everlasting joy will crown their heads,” and sorrow and sighing will flee away.  And the only reason any of us can walk that road is Jesus Christ.     Want Peace? Pay Attention to What Has Your Attention | Isaiah 24–27

    What has your attention right now? Your problems? Your phone? The news? Money? Something you're afraid might happen? Isaiah gives us a remarkably simple connection: What has your attention affects where you place your trust. And where you place your trust affects your peace. Isaiah 24–27 isn't exactly an easy section of Scripture. There's judgment, shaking, waiting, pruning, death, evil—and then right in the middle of it comes one of the most comforting promises in the Bible: “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.” — Isaiah 26:3 That's what we spend a lot of time talking about in this episode. How do you actually keep your mind on God when you've got work to do, bills to pay, people depending on you, and a phone constantly begging for your attention? And what happens when God allows some of the things we've trusted in to be shaken? Isaiah's answer isn't to pretend life is easy. It's to learn to trust God while we wait. We talk about what that looks like in ordinary life: spending time in Scripture, fasting from things we've become too dependent on, stepping away from distractions, walking through grief with an eternal perspective, and allowing God to prune us without losing our trust in Him.  There's also an incredible progression through these chapters: Isaiah 24: Everything that can be shaken is shaken.Isaiah 25: God swallows up death.Isaiah 26: God's people trust Him while they wait.Isaiah 27: God defeats evil and makes His people fruitful.  That leaves us with a question worth sitting with: What kind of person am I becoming while I'm trusting, waiting, and being pruned? Because the end of the story is already settled. Death is defeated. The enemy is defeated.     🎙️ The Hidden Danger of God's Blessings | Isaiah 17–24

    ⚠️ What if the greatest threat to your faith isn't hardship—but blessing? When life falls apart, we often run to God. But when life is comfortable, the bills are paid, we're healthy, and everything seems to be going our way... that's when we're tempted to forget Him. In Isaiah 17–24, nation after nation discovers what happens when people begin trusting their prosperity, strength, governments, military power, and themselves instead of the God who gave them everything. The problem underneath it all? Pride. Even among passages of judgment, God continues calling people back to Himself. He disciplines, but He also heals. He warns, but He also offers salvation. And ultimately, these chapters point us toward the only King and Kingdom that will remain: Jesus Christ. Maybe the question isn't simply: “Has God blessed me?” Maybe it's: Don't wait for everything to fall apart before turning back to Him. While there is light, look to Jesus.     Judgment Is Coming... But God Made a Way Out | Isaiah 15–16

    ⚠️ What if one of the most uncomfortable truths in the Bible is also the reason the Gospel is such incredibly good news? Judgment is real. We don't talk about it much anymore. But Isaiah does—and so does Jesus. Isaiah 15–16 describes devastating judgment coming upon Moab. Cities fall. People mourn. Security disappears. Pride is exposed. But hidden inside these difficult chapters is something remarkable: ❤️ God isn't celebrating. His heart is breaking. God takes no pleasure in judgment. Even while warning Moab of what is coming, He points toward mercy, refuge, and ultimately a throne established through the line of David—a promise that points us directly toward Jesus Christ.
