  1. Elemental LED: Rob Doherty

    Elemental LED: Rob Doherty

On this episode of “Simplifying Life Through Technology,” Mark and Andrew sit down with Rob Doherty of Elemental LED. Great lighting doesn’t announce itself. It quietly shapes how a space feels, supports your day, and disappears into the architecture when done right. In this episode, we sit down with Rob to explore what truly specification-grade linear lighting brings to modern homes. Rob breaks down how Elemental LED engineers and manufactures their products in the U.S., why consistency and color quality matter so much in continuous runs of light, and what separates premium solutions like Lucetta from typical off-the-shelf options. We unpack how thoughtful engineering leads to cleaner installs, lighting that blends seamlessly into finishes, and rooms that simply feel better to live in. From kitchens and showers to backlit stone, wood slat walls, and outdoor applications, Rob shares where linear lighting makes the biggest impact—and why it’s becoming a foundational layer of residential design. The episode closes with a broader look at where residential lighting is headed, toward dynamic, human-centric systems that adapt naturally throughout the day. Rob explains how control-agnostic integration with platforms like Lutron and Control4 allows lighting to be designed around experience rather than interfaces, resulting in spaces that feel balanced, intentional, and easy to live in. The discussion ties together design, wellness, and engineering, showing how well-executed linear lighting becomes an invisible but essential layer of the home.  To learn more about Elemental LED: https://www.elementalled.com/ To learn more about Lucetta Lighting: https://lucettalighting.com/ Check out Lucetta Lighting on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lucetta.lighting/ To learn more about SoundVision: https://www.svavnc.com/ Check out our Instagram to see our recent projects: https://www.instagram.com/soundvisionllc/ To listen to more “Simplifying Life Through Technology” podcasts: https://open.spotify.com/show/7fIkJuLZ7lZ8xbafz62muQ Contact Us Today:  (704) 696-2792 Ext. 1 | Info@svavnc.com | soundvisionlkn.com

  2. 15 Year Anniversary

    12/12/2025

    15 Year Anniversary

On this episode of “SoundVision Tech Talks,” Mark and Andrew sit down to discuss SoundVision's 15 Year Anniversary. In this milestone episode, we celebrate 15 years of SoundVision. What began at a kitchen table and grew into a team-driven company built on one clear mission: simplifying life through technology. We reflect on the evolution of our work, the people who shaped our path, and the vision that’s steering us into the next decade. We unpack the turning points that defined who we are today: transitioning sales and operations to dedicated experts, formalizing a culture rooted in the Golden Rule and core values, and embracing the slow, steady discipline of getting just 1% better every day. From 2010 to now, the technology, and the expectations, have transformed. Early projects centered around 5.1 surround systems, basic whole-home audio, and simple automation. Today, we design around robust networks, tunable architectural lighting, automated shades in nearly every project, micro-LED displays, and theaters where engineering, design, and reliability finally align. Remote service has also become a signature strength—what started as a necessity grew into one of the most thoughtful, efficient ways we support our clients. But at the center of our story is the people. We highlight the team members who elevated our trajectory, the clients and builders who trusted us with their homes, and the vendor partners who showed up to celebrate with us. We extend special gratitude to our wider community, including a heartfelt thank-you to the veterans whose service protects the freedoms we enjoy. And for the first time, we share a behind-the-scenes look at our “vivid vision” process—how writing down a ten-year plan helped us achieve most of it in six, and why the next chapter is all about legacy, sustainable growth, and creating spaces that bring ease, security, and joy.  As we look back on 15 years of growth, challenges, breakthroughs, and the people who made each year possible, this episode offers a true behind-the-scenes look at what shaped SoundVision, and what will define our next chapter. Whether you’ve followed our journey from the beginning or you’re just discovering who we are, this conversation captures the heart of where we’ve been and the clarity of where we’re headed.  To learn more about SoundVision: https://www.svavnc.com/ Check out our Instagram to see our recent projects: https://www.instagram.com/soundvisionllc/ To listen to more “Simplifying Life Through Technology” podcasts: https://open.spotify.com/show/7fIkJuLZ7lZ8xbafz62muQ Contact Us Today:  (704) 696-2792 Ext. 1 | Info@svavnc.com | soundvisionlkn.com

  3. AI In Our Industry

    11/28/2025

    AI In Our Industry

On this episode of “SoundVision Tech Talks,” Mark and Andrew sit down to discuss using AI in our industry. Worried AI is going to replace your job? We flip the script and discuss how to turn AI models into true thought partners that make work smoother, proposals sharper, and decisions faster. We walk through the exact tools and workflows we rely on day to day, from custom GPTs that punch holes in our proposals to an “attorney” model that benchmarks subcontractor agreements in seconds. You’ll hear how we combine voice-first tools like Whisperflow with Plaud and Slack AI to capture meetings, extract action items, and stay fully present with clients instead of buried in notes. We also dig into the CRIT prompt method—context, role, interview, task—to get AIs asking us smarter questions before they generate results. That same approach powers real-life choices: one model analyzed mid-size trucks and recommended a Honda Ridgeline based on our criteria, while another built a balanced, points-friendly road trip with leaf-peeping stops, cooking classes, and wine tours. When you provide clear constraints, AI gives you options you can trust and refine without the overwhelm. For client education, Notebook LM transforms dense PDFs into interactive mind maps by floor, room, and device, complete with specs, images, and even a dynamic “podcast” interface that answers follow-up questions. And for rapid internal experiments, Google AI Studio lets us “vibe code” small tools with plain English, turning ideas into working prototypes we can hand off for polish. We stay realistic about risks—misleading media and bad sources exist—so everything gets human review and context. The goal is simple: enhance the human, reduce busywork, and raise the quality bar. 4. Internet Outage: What To Do

    11/14/2025

    Internet Outage: What To Do

On this episode of “SoundVision Tech Talks,” Mark, Mike, and Andrew sit down to discuss Internet Outages. Ever wonder whether to call your integrator or your internet service provider (ISP) when your connection suddenly drops? In this episode, we break down the simplest way to understand what’s happening, who’s responsible, and how to get back online faster, without guessing or rebooting the wrong box. Mike joins us by phone this week from Cozumel as we dive into the difference between internet—everything your ISP controls outside your home—and intranet, the network inside your home that powers your Wi-Fi, smart devices, streaming, and automation. We explain how we diagnose issues remotely, why losing visibility into your system almost always points to an ISP outage, and the real-world reasons those outages happen: storms, construction, power failures, landscapers cutting lines, ISP modem failures, and more. You’ll also learn the reset sequence we recommend to homeowners the outside-in reboot order that fixes roughly 70% of service issues. We walk through why the modem needs to reboot first and how a miscommunication between ISP equipment and your router can make your whole system appear offline even when everything inside the home is perfectly healthy. It all comes down to a simple rule of thumb for homeowners:  • If individual devices are slow, glitchy, or acting oddly, that’s an in-home network issue, call us.  • If everything goes offline and we can’t reach your system remotely, it’s time to call your ISP.  By the end of the episode, we hope you’ll know exactly how to read the symptoms, run the right reset sequence, and pinpoint whether the fix is in your house or out on the street. No more guesswork, just a clear path to getting your connection back up and running as quickly as possible. SoundVision's Culture

On this episode of “SoundVision Tech Talks,” Mark, Michelle, and Andrew sit down to discuss the culture at SoundVision. What does company culture look like when it moves beyond slogans and shows up in daily decisions? In this episode, we discuss how SoundVision operates: how our core values of honesty, excellence, and respect shape every hire, every service call, and every client relationship. We walk through the processes that turn good intentions into reliability: our 90-day culture fit process, quarterly employee analyzers, and behavior-based hiring that ensures new teammates understand what “great” truly means. You’ll hear how we protect our team, saying no to misaligned projects and ending partnerships that compromise our standards, and how we build trust through consistency, from photo audits and checklists to proactive communication when expectations shift. This episode also explores service as a strategy: why simplicity, responsiveness, and long-term reliability define our success. We share how a service-first model transformed our client experience and why retention, not just installation, is the real product in home technology. Ultimately, this is a conversation about what it takes to live the Golden Rule in business, how to create an environment where people thrive, clients feel cared for, and excellence is the default. Control4: X4

On this episode of “SoundVision Tech Talks,” Mark and Andrew sit down to discuss Control4's new Operating System X4. Forget juggling a dozen smart-home apps just to lock a door, dim a light, or check a camera. We dive into Control4’s X4 and show how it turns scattered devices into a single, intuitive control center, complete with a customizable home screen, live camera tiles, and active “sessions” you can manage at a glance. The result is less tapping and more living—whether you’re a power user who wants granular control or a casual user who wants everything important on one screen. We go deep into routines, the standout feature that lets you automate everyday moments without a service call. Want your home to wake with you at dawn—shades rising, lights easing up, HVAC leaving sleep mode? Prefer a “goodnight” triggered by turning off the bedroom TV that locks doors, tunes climate, lowers shades, and shuts down the basement? We share practical setups for lighting scenes, ramp rates, color temperature, motion-based night paths, thermostat setbacks, and geofencing so your house adjusts as you arrive or leave. It’s real-world automation that feels natural. You’ll also hear how X4 plays well with Apple AirPlay for effortless audio and HomeKit integration for those who love native controls. We also discuss Control4's older OS timelines. OS2 sunsets in 2026, OS3 will continue working, but OS2 will not. X4 is the leap that makes daily use faster and smarter. If you’re wondering whether to upgrade, we outline the benefits and mention current promotions on controllers and hardware so you can plan your upgrade with confidence. If you’re ready to simplify your smart home controls, consider upgrading your Control4 OS system to X4 today! 8. Cornelius Today: Jon Show

    Cornelius Today: Jon Show

On this episode of “Simplifying Life Through Technology,” Mark and Andrew sit down with Jon Show, the new Owner and Editor of Cornelius Today. When John Show moved to Cornelius eleven years ago, he never imagined he'd one day own the local newspaper. Yet his diverse background—running printing presses, covering sports for national publications, and managing PR for professional golf tournaments—uniquely prepared him for this unexpected role. "I see myself as more of a curator," Show explains, describing his relationship with Cornelius Today, a 22-year-old publication he recently purchased from founder Dave Yoakum. This perspective reveals his deep respect for local journalism as a community asset rather than merely a business venture. In an era when metropolitan newspapers have drastically reduced their coverage of smaller communities, publications like Cornelius Today fill a critical information gap. Show's journey reflects the changing landscape of local media. Growing up delivering community newspapers as a 12-year-old fostered his lifelong appreciation for local news. His path to ownership began with writing unpaid columns about his family adventures (including one about his daughter that would later come back to haunt him when she discovered it years later at school). When the opportunity arose to take the reins, he saw it as a chance to preserve something valuable. The newspaper employs a hybrid approach to reach readers—arriving monthly in mailboxes throughout the 28031 zip code while maintaining a digital presence online. Show balances tradition with innovation, using AI tools to streamline administrative tasks while maintaining a commitment to human-written journalism. He's expanding coverage areas based on community feedback, recently adding high school sports and planning to introduce restaurant reviews. Whether you're a longtime resident or new to the Lake Norman area, Cornelius Today offers the essential local coverage that major media outlets no longer provide.
