My Bestie is on the TV Screen

My Bestie is on the TV Screen

In this episode, Dr. Bradley Bond shares his research and expert knowledge on parasocial relationships and the psychology of media with the SOP audience. Specifically he explores with Dr. Nina Polyné our perceptions of TV characters, and how this might relate to our social networks while being single. He also expands on how TV narratives can be helpful for marginalized communities (e.g., LGBTQ, elderly). Additionally, they explore why we get so wrapped up in celebrity lives, and at times, we tend to feel similar emotions of those we follow on social media when big life shifts occur (makeups and breakups). Finally, Dr. Brad offers his wisdom on how to live your best life while single, and if the shows we watch on TV influence the attractions we may have on potential dates. Along with his role as a professor, speaker and business consultant, he is also incredibly creative! He shares in the episode what led him to pursue a life of purpose-driven work, and he and Dr. Nina reflect on their 20 year + friendship.

Dr. Bradley Bond is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Communication at the University of San Diego. His research examines the psychology of media, specifically how entertainment media influences audiences’ attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors. He has consulted for corporations including Disney, Warner Brothers, and Playstation; and his award-winning research has been covered by outlets including Time, NPR, and the Washington Post.

How To Be Single and Happy

How To Be Single and Happy

In this episode, Drs. Nina, Meli, and Sheva explore the relationship between singlehood and happiness. Can you actually feel happy while navigating the world, sans relationship? They explore this topic, including cultivating a relationship with yourself, what keeps us from feeling happy or content, and they offer helpful and tangible tips while on the journey of self-love, deservingness and self-forgiveness. Additionally, they explore how a history of trauma and cultural considerations can impact the dating process as a single person. Have you experienced dating fatigue? Dating app burnout? They dish on how to get yourself out there in the dating world, without feeling overwhelmed. The three podcasters go way back to their graduate school days, and they self-reflect at the beginning of the episode about self-celebration and honoring creativity.

Disappointed

I have followed John Kim through his books and angry therapist podcast, however his single on purpose podcast is disappointing. The male podcaster he has representing repeats his story and touches on off topics. Sorry. I tried. I can’t stand this podcast. The topics are misleading and honestly felt pointless. I can’t believe John uses his name on this podcast
