Single With Purpose

Patrick Ryan Lewis

Single with Purpose is a Bible-based podcast created to help single Christian men grow in faith, character, discipline, leadership, and responsibility. Each episode explores what it means to live as a godly man in today’s culture—not by following stereotypes, chasing status, or waiting for marriage to provide purpose, but by becoming faithful to Christ in every area of life. Through practical Bible teaching and examples from men such as Joseph, David, Daniel, Peter, and Paul, the show addresses integrity, passivity, spiritual discipline, temptation, friendship, accountability, servant leadership, and personal responsibility. Whether you are navigating singleness, preparing for marriage, rebuilding after failure, or simply seeking to become the man God has called you to be, Single with Purpose will challenge and encourage you to stand firm in the faith, walk humbly with God, serve others with strength and love, and live with purpose right now.

    9. Overcoming Passivity

In this episode of Single With Purpose, we confront one of the quietest dangers in a man’s spiritual life: passivity. From Adam standing by while Eve took the forbidden fruit in Genesis 3, to the neglected field of the sluggard in Proverbs 24, Scripture shows us that doing nothing is still a decision. Sometimes the greatest failure is not choosing the wrong action—it is refusing to act when God has already made the right action clear. We’ll examine the difference between patience and passivity, why fear of failure can cause men to avoid responsibility, and how silence can become disobedience when God is calling us to speak, lead, serve, repent, reconcile, or take action. James 4:17 reminds us that knowing what is right and refusing to do it is itself sin. Biblical maturity therefore requires more than avoiding obvious wrongdoing. It means becoming a man who is willing to take responsibility, initiate difficult conversations, make necessary decisions, and faithfully act on what God has placed in front of him. Taking initiative does not mean becoming controlling, demanding, or domineering. Mature Christian men learn to lead through humility, courage, service, wisdom, and obedience to God. In this episode: Why passivity is not the same as patience How silence can become disobedience Why fear of failure keeps men from taking responsibility What Proverbs teaches about the slow consequences of neglect How to take initiative without becoming controlling Why spiritual maturity requires action, not merely good intentions Primary Scriptures: Genesis 3:6; Proverbs 24:30–34; James 4:17 You do not have to control every outcome. You are responsible for faithfully responding to what God has placed before you.
