She's Got a Story to Tell! How Rita Coburn is preserving history through documentaries.

I recently watched a documentary that was so good, I reached out to the producer and asked her to be my guest. She said yes!  In this episode of Sisternomics, I sit down with Emmy and Peabody Award-winning filmmaker Rita Coburn, director of the PBS documentary W.E.B. Du Bois: Rebel With a Cause. We talk about what drew her to Du Bois, the surprises she uncovered along the way, and why his ideas still resonate more than a century later. Rita also shares her own journey from journalism to documentary filmmaking, the power of telling Black stories on our own terms, and what she's learned about pursuing big dreams later in life. In this episode: Why Rita felt compelled to tell Du Bois's story The four-year journey behind the documentary What most people misunderstand about Du Bois How storytelling shapes history and culture Why it's never too late to pursue your calling Watch the documentary on PBS here: https://www.pbs.org/wnet/americanmasters/w-e-b-du-bois-documentary/34807/ on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/I2_GVDDo0N8?si=-y5MaFIsxTlJuA29 Learn more about Rita and her work at her official website. The Healing Era with KiKi Stovall (encore)

I've talked to a lot of people over the years–probably thousands! Every now and then, a conversation cracks something open. This was one of those conversations. In this encore episode of Sisternomics, therapist and trauma expert Kiki Stovall joins me for a discussion about trauma, imposter syndrome, self-doubt, and the hidden experiences that shape how we move through the world.  What I didn't expect was that the conversation would lead to a breakthrough of my own. If you've ever found yourself questioning your worth, shrinking in rooms you've earned the right to be in, or wondering why certain patterns keep showing up in your life, this conversation may resonate. Together, we candidly explore how unresolved experiences can quietly shape our ability to move forward. In this episode: • Why imposter syndrome is often more complicated than we think • The hidden ways trauma can influence our everyday lives • A simple framework for identifying emotional patterns and triggers • The question that can help you envision a different future • Why rest, support, and self-awareness are essential to healing • The breakthrough moment that changed the direction of our conversation Connect with Kiki Stovall Website: iamyourtherapist.com Instagram: @yourtherapist_counselingsvc Do me a solid. We Are Not Your Gurus: Why the performative coaching era is ending, FINALLY!

The coaching industry got hijacked and that sucks.  Marketing got prioritized over transformation, coaches got "celebritized" and people began to idolize them, put them on pedestals and mimic their lifestyles. There was a push to shove people into cookie cutter frameworks or get them to buy $997 courses and as a result a lot of people lost time and money, got manipulated and never got the transformation they were actually looking for. Thankfully we are starting to see a shift. In this episode of Sisternomics, I unpack why I believe the coaching industry is going through a necessary course correction and why women over 45 are no longer looking for gurus, perfect frameworks, or louder personalities. We are looking for something deeper. We talk about what real coaching should actually feel like, the difference between support and proximity marketing, why AI can't replace human discernment, and the quiet power of being truly seen, heard, and honsetly supported. This conversation is bigger than coaching. It's about trust. Identity. Discernment. Emotional exhaustion. And what women truly need in this season of life. Before You Quit, Ask yourself This.

There's a reason nature moves in seasons. Nothing blooms year-round. Nothing produces nonstop. So why do we expect ourselves to constantly produce without honoring the season we're actually in? In this episode, using gardening and farming as the backdrop, I'll walk you through some of the different seasons we experience in life and business and how much easier things become when we stop fighting the timing of where we are. Some of us are in a planting season. Some are finally starting to bloom. Some of us are carrying fruit we prayed for years ago. And some of us are being asked to prune. So before you quit, ask yourself, "which season am I in?"
