Sketch Nerds

This podcast is really about one of my favorite things, something I feel fairly alone in liking sometimes -- comedy theory. I love to figure out why we find things funny, why is this thing funnier than this other thing, etc. They also 'arm-chair quarterback' the sketches, which I do too, whether anyone wants to hear it or not. :)

I’m going through the first few episodes and they never play the whole sketch? Does this change ever? If it does I’ll change my review. But at the moment it sounds like folks who just like to hear themselves talk. A Good One and Let’s Talk About Sets, while more standup based, they at least play the whole bit. Why analyze a sketch on a podcast without even playing the button at the end?

This is a really cool and original show. They break down comedy while adding plenty of puns, wit, and humor themselves. I found it very insightful to learn a little bit about the behind the scenes work that goes into writing and creating sketches.

I am a BIG comedy fan, so finding out that sketch nerds existed was so exciting for me. They break down some of my favorite comedy bits and shows including Portlandia and Saturday Night Live. Awesome to hear from improv enthusiasts from Seattle too (my hometown!). Awesome feedback on sketches, really well produced, and a lot of great insight. I loved hearing about one of my fav sketches from Portlandia: “did you read it?” Which is so accurate in terms of people who love to one up each other.
