    Food Adventures: Traditional meets Western

Cultural warning: EmPauR would like to advise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander listeners that the following podcast may mention names of people who have gone before us into the stars and the dreaming.   In this episode, we dive into the world of Eastern and Western Torres Strait Islander food. We'll explore how traditional dishes are combined with Western (non-Indigenous) influences, uncovering the tastes, meanings, and sense of togetherness that come from sharing meals. This episode celebrates the way food is used to tell stories and connect cultures.   EmpauR acknowledges the Gimuy-walubrra yiddi (Gimuy walaburra indinji) people whose traditional lands this podcast has been recorded on. We pay our respects to the ongoing cultural connection that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people continue to hold with the land, sea and wind.   Thank you to the guests and organisations that contributed to this episode. The music is a Traditional Torres Strait Islander song and was played by a proud Torres Strait Islander man and well-loved family member, who is unfortunately no longer with us.  Produced by: Podcast Editor - Jacob Traficante Productions   This season of SNACK has been produced by the EmPauR as part of the COTA Queensland Home Care Workforce Support Program which received grant funding from the Australian Government. Embracing solutions to culturally appropriate care

Australia is becoming more multicultural and we have more seniors from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds accessing aged care services. As such, it is important for those delivering their care to understand their cultural needs and meet those needs by providing culturally appropriate care. In this episode Thana Roysmith from ECCQ’s Multicultural Advisory Service is joined by Danijela Hlis, a Community member and a tireless advocate of people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Danijela shares her experience when she was a carer for her parents and some of the challenges that multicultural communities can face when accessing aged care services. Thana and Danijela also discuss how care workers can help in understanding the needs of culturally diverse seniors when providing care. Thank you to the guests and organisations that contributed to this episode. Wanting to find out more?
