Forgiving the Unforgivable with Special Guest Stephanie Lashley

Forgiving the Unforgivable with Special Guest Stephanie Lashley

    LISTENER DISCRETION ADVISED

We are told that we should forgive, that forgiveness is really about us moving on, not the person who did us wrong. But how does someone forgive the unforgivable?

This episode is a raw, un-edited and candid discussion with author, Life Coach and serial entrepreneur, Stephanie Lashley who is learning every day to forgive that which most people would find unforgivable.

After 20 years of marriage, Stephanie found herself in the doctor's office facing a life-changing diagnosis. She was HIV positive. Her husband had been sleeping with men, outside of marriage and without her knowledge for years. Not only that, but she was also pregnant. Doctors and religious leaders encourage Stephanie to abort her child, and her husband continued his lifestyle, even after knowing that he too was HIV positive. He introduced their son to drugs, and while Stephanie helped him recover, a relapse would ultimately lead to his death at 23.

Despite having lost her marriage, her children and living with HIV, Stephanie has learned that forgiveness was never about condoning what happened, but rather releasing herself from being held captive by it.

In this raw, candid, and often emotional interview, Stephanie tells her story of love, loss, grief, and forgiveness.

Finding Bursts of Joy in Everyday Life with Lisa Dimino-White

Finding Bursts of Joy in Everyday Life with Lisa Dimino-White

Are you waiting for the ‘big’ moment or achievement to find happiness? Is joy something that you will find if and when something happens? On this episode of the ‘So She Did’ Podcast, Kristin talks with Lisa Dimino-White, author of the book “Bursting with Joy” to explore how you can create passion and what Lisa refers to as ‘Bursts of Joy’ in every day life.

Lisa and Kristin share ways in which they can recognize small and joyful moments and become more intentional about creating them in every day life. Lisa says that it really is the small moments that add up to a lifetime of happiness. The seemingly small, calming, peaceful and joyful daily experiences define our lives as a whole and Lisa says that the time between ‘then’ and ‘now’…really is now.

Lisa encourages the listeners to find moments of joy without judging themselves, but rather authentically enjoying the things that make them smile…maybe it’s meditating, or maybe it’s spoiling yourself with a favorite dessert. Whatever it is, we should seek it.

Argue Less and Love More: Communication for a Better Relationship

Argue Less and Love More: Communication for a Better Relationship

What if you could learn to communicate in a way that would make your relationships better? In this episode of the ‘So She Did’ Podcast, Kristin speaks with Paul Sterling, best-selling author of the book “Argue Less, Love More.”

Paul begins by explaining that in our relationships, we have 3 needs: to be heard, to be understood and to be valued. Often this starts with an understanding of our own needs and then intentionally working on our own communication skills. This often means understanding what your partner needs in the moment: do they need help solving a problem or simply an ear to listen? What do you need in the moment? Paul provides tangible examples of how to ask for what you need and provide it to others.

Paul explains two different relationships paradigms which he calls, “Happily Ever After meets Lord of the Rings.” In the first, the relationship is happy and content, but in the second, the couple is called on a journey together that may have some challenges and discomfort along the way.

At the end of the episode, Paul tells listeners how they can get in touch with him and get a free PDF of his book.

Overcoming Fears and Saying "Yes!" To your Life with Gwen Austin

Overcoming Fears and Saying "Yes!" To your Life with Gwen Austin

Understanding the root of of fears is just the first step, we must also learn to not only overcome them, but take our power back from them and say “YES!” to our lives.

During this episode of the “So She Did” Podcast, Kristin is joined by inventor and entrepreneur, Gwen Austin. Gwen is a toy designer who specializes in helping children learn to not listen to the negative voices of the world but instead face their fears.

She discusses how we, as adults, can adopt this same mentality. By understanding the roots of our fears, making decisions to overcome them and replace them with empowering beliefs and saying “Yes” to our lives, we really can live more fulfilling lives.

Gwen says that we must learn to ‘go with our gut.’ Kristin asked what exactly that means and how we know it is out ‘gut’ talking. Gwen answers that if it feels like passion, it’s right….but if it feels like pressure, something is off.

Listen to this episode for a great ‘Say Yes’ challenge, and more insight on taking risks and living your life to the fullest.

Living a Life of Passion with "Fire in Your Belly" feat Mighty Pete Lonton

Living a Life of Passion with "Fire in Your Belly" feat Mighty Pete Lonton

During this episode of the “So She Did” Podcast, Kristin is joined by author, TedX Speaker, coach and fellow podcaster, Mighty Pete Lonton to discuss the importance of finding your passion—what Kristin calls ‘living a life that sets your soul on fire,’ and what Pete calls ‘Fire in Your Belly.’

Despite living on different continents, Kristin and Pete each had similar experiences in their mid-thirties of questioning who they were and whether they were on the right path. The episode begins with a discussion of these catalysts and then Pete shares his journey into greater self-awareness.

Pete questions what it is that makes some people get up and turn on the television, while others get up and change their lives and the world for better. What sets the two apart? Passion! Pete discusses the idea of “Fire in Your Belly,” and the need for each of us to find that passion so that we can live more meaningful and fulfilling lives.

The conversation ends with thoughts on how we can not only re-invent ourselves, but also how we can re-build ourselves. Pete suggests that we are all born with passion and purpose, but in the process of life and socialization we are told and begin to believe stories about who we are and who we should be. Kristin suggests that when we go back to chapter one, we have the ability to re-write these stories and become who we were meant to be at the very beginning, before life got in the way.

    Finding Your Inner Badass

    Finding Your Inner Badass

Kristin is joined on this episode by Rachel Shumway, Badassary Coach, Teacher and Emotional Mentor where the focus is on finding your inner badass and setting her free!

Kristin and Rachel first address the tough topics: How do we overcome self-judgement? How do we identify the negative thought patterns that get in our way? Rachel offers some tangible tips and personal stories so that listeners can begin to silence the voices that tell them 'no,' and move forward with a big and resounding YES!

Kristin then shares her own experiences with toxic positivity: the idea that by simply thinking better thoughts we can create a better situation for ourselves. While the two agree that there is a place for motivation and positive thinking, they also agree that positive thoughts should not come at the expense of dealing with underlying emotions that may be subconsciously holding us back. Rachel presents a radical idea: half of our experiences should be negative. We need both the good and the bad to be well-rounded individuals and there is nothing 'bad' about negative emotions.

The episode ends with final thoughts on how listeners can develop a healthy mindset that helps them find their inner 'super-hero' (in the words of Rachel), and live lives that 'set their souls on FIRE.'
