    You're checking SEEK. You're checking LinkedIn. You're applying for jobs regularly. So why isn't anything happening? In this episode of my Why You're Not Getting Interviews in New Zealand series, I look at why simply applying for advertised jobs isn't enough anymore. I share a real example from my own workplace where potential candidates were already being discussed and referred for roles that hadn't even been approved yet, never mind advertised. I also share something a New Zealand recruiter recently told me about building relationships with candidates before the right job becomes available. The point isn't to stop applying online. You absolutely should be searching and applying for relevant jobs, but there is another side to the New Zealand job market: relationships, referrals, recruiters, timing and getting known before an opportunity appears. And if you're sitting outside New Zealand wondering how you're supposed to do any of that from another country, it can be done.
