We continue this season with Dorie Griggs: first responder & healthcare chaplain and sports enthusiast. In this episode, we discuss Griggs’ background as an avid sports enthusiast having had statistician, marketing and coordinating jobs in various levels of sports management. We discuss her later shift into the world of ministry and her creative, original work ministering to those in the industry of journalism. A discussion of her pastoral identity continues as she expounds on entering seminary, her work in interfaith relations, clinical pastoral education, and her work as a first responder and hospital chaplain. We talk about our identities and approaches to chaplaincy and what we see chaplaincy being in the future in a growing secularized society. Bio: Dorie Griggs is a first responder chaplain with the Roswell Fire Department and registry chaplain with Emory St. Joseph’s Hospital. She is a commissioned and endorsed minister with the Federation of Christian Ministries. Dorie is also an avid sports enthusiast still involved in volunteering for major sporting events such as the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.     Hello, and welcome to another episode of Some Random Thoughts. I am your host, Ryan Mulkowsky. This season, we focus on our guests in the “What’s Your Passion” series. We continue this season with Emily Herrick: an outspoken advocate for seeking alternative methods to treating mental and physical illness through better understanding of how diet and other indicators can impact our health outcomes. In this episode, we discuss Emily’s background as someone who struggled with a host of mental health disorders through childhood all the way to adulthood and utilized conventional interventions such as therapy and medication management to little avail: leading her to worsening mental health outcomes which led to multiple hospitalizations and rehabilitations. Emily continued to struggle until she started seeking alternative health interventions found in integrative and functional medicine. She soon discovered that her diet needed vast adjustment which led to significant breakthrough and new found freedom from mental and physical health struggles. She discusses the complications and victories along the way and also advocates for greater access to alternative medicine and better treatment in our healthcare system overall. In this episode, we discuss Kreinbrook’s background with his family practicing chiropractic medicine and some of the problematic roots and beliefs attached to this methodological approach. This leads us to a conversation of his eventual deconstruction of his faith and his pursuit for truth which led him to science and the field of medicine currently engaging as a medical student and researcher. Kreinbrook goes into detail about his beliefs about valid research, bias and conflict in interest in much of medical research funding, creeping ideology affecting the field of science and research, the problems found in unconventional and alternative medicine, and more. In this episode, we discuss Meg’s background as someone who deconstructed from her faith and with that the complexities of her evolving relationship with her husband along with changing views and practices on sex and intimacy. She discovered that there were women in her situation and subsequently facilitated gatherings on this subject along with pursuing formal training as a sex & relationship coach and obtaining other certifications. She became a content creator continuing to help others in their journey to better, shame-free sex and intimacy.
