Kirsten Dunst & Alex Garland, Civil War, The Teachers’ Lounge, The First Omen & Back to Black
This week, Kirsten Dunst and Alex Garland sit down to chat with Simon about their new film ‘Civil War’, which sees Dunst star as a photojournalist travelling with her team across a dystopian United States, engulfed by a second civil war, in a bid to interview and photograph the president.
Mark also gives his take on the film, as well as reviewing ‘The Teachers’ Lounge’, a drama in which a teacher decides to step in when one of her students is suspected of theft, finding herself caught between her ideals and the school system in the process; and ‘The First Omen’, which sees a young American nun start to question her own faith when she uncovers a terrifying conspiracy to bring about the birth of evil incarnate in Rome.
The big review of the week is ‘Back to Black’, a musical biopic about singer Amy Winehouse’s tumultuous relationship with Blake Fielder-Civil inspires her to write and record the groundbreaking album ‘Back to Black’.

Dev Patel, Monkey Man, Evil Does Not Exist, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire & Seize Them!
This week, the lovely Dev Patel is on the show to chat all things ‘Monkey Man’, his (co) writing and directorial debut, which sees a young man hunt down the group of corrupt leaders responsible for his mother’s death.

Ewan McGregor, A Gentleman in Moscow, Mothers’ Instinct & Silver Haze
This week, Obi Wan Kenobi himself, aka Ewan McGregor, sits down with Simon to discuss his new miniseries ‘A Gentleman in Moscow’, which sees a Russian aristocrat spared from death and placed under house arrest while the Bolshevik Revolution plays out before him.
Mark also gives his take on the series, as well as reviewing ‘Mothers’ Instinct’, a Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway-starring thriller about a pair of rich suburban housewives, whose sisterly bond is unraveled after a tragic accident shatters their seemingly picture-perfect lives; and ‘Silver Haze’, a British drama about a young nurse, who is unable to build any meaningful relationship thanks to her obsession with getting revenge for a traumatic event that happened 15 years prior, until she falls in love with one of her patients.

Is it about film reviews or just two middle age guys bantering?
Entertaining, many inside jokes over time have developed
Worthy to listen to as a female smoking cigars, back in clergy corner or during a gym
Workout .
They cover movies , mark has a bent toward Horror and documentaries. But he’s realistic that other opinions are available. Simon is a career deejay who is an excellent interviewer of stars. Being the top UK movie show they get all the A list celebrities pushing their movies.

Sort out tech problems
I love Mark and Simon.
But why is Take the only podcast out of dozens I listen to that consistently fails to play after pausing, says it’s playing but then crashes, or says it’s playing but nothing can be heard? This happens at least once a month. The hassle has knocked the show out of my top 5! Please fix it.
Not what it was
I know, I know. Everyone needs to make a buck, but as a LTL of over 15 years, the show feels like it has been gutted in order to drive listeners towards a subscription.
I understand the idea of doing deep dives and extended interviews in the bonus episodes. Even reviews of more obscure releases, but when the review of a mainstream movie like Wish is shoved behind the paywall, it’s probably time to go.
The Beeb show was top of my list to listen to as soon as it came in. This is a shadow of its former self with over a month of unplayed episodes on my phone.
