    Arab Strap tell ‘Half-Told Tales,’ talk AI, The Fall and other wonderful & frightening horror stories

    For the second episode of Extra Helpings, I’m talking to Aiden Moffat and Malcolm Middleton, aka long-running Scottish duo Arab Strap whose ninth album, Half Told Tales, was just released by Mogwai’s Rock Action label. If you ask me, it’s one of their best, with the band’s signature sprechgesang sound pulled in all sorts of directions, including disco and hard rock (and that’s just one song!), and Moffat’s lyrics showing a sweeet, tender side that comes with age. In addition to the album, we get into all sorts of other subjects, including horror movies, a shared love of The Fall, AI, other talky bands from throughout music history, their upcoming tour, five records they think you should hear, and lots more.     Sondre Lerche talks Acrobats, Pet Shop Boys, Prefab Sprout, Natural Wine & more

    Today for the first episode of the Sound Bites: Extra Helpings podcast, I’ve got as our guest Norwegian singer-songwriter Sondre Lerche, whose new album Acrobats is out this week. This is his first since 2022's wildly ambitious double album Avatars of Love. While this one is slightly smaller in scale, it feels just as big in scope. Sondre tells us how his run starring in stage musical Moulin Rouge influenced the record, as did dance music artists like Pet Shop Boys and Underworld. We also talk about Sondre's foray into (natural) winemaking, his time as Brooklyn resident that included running the New York City Marathon, plus his upcoming North American tour, five records he thinks everyone should have in their life, and more.
