Welcome, I'm Tommy, and this is Sound Exploration the podcast where you can experience the sound of the world through your headphones. This podcast is meant to let everybody know how the soundscape that surrounds us every day can help us out understand what is happening to our own World. We're continuously going at the speed of light and we're not able to take a break and listen to what happens around us and, most importantly, to each other. Every Friday you will be able to enjoy all my sound adventures and use all my recordings to take a break and enjoy the simple act of listening.     Sounds for Sleeping - Waterfall and birds sounds for relaxing, studying and fall asleep quickly - Tape 004 - Cascate di Crosis - July

    In today's episode we start travelling in search of sounds and, for the occasion, I decided to take you with me to Crosis, a small village in Friuli Venezia Giulia. Some months ago, I felt the need to disconnect from everything and everyone, so on Saturday morning I turned on aeroplane mode on my phone, got in the car and drove off. On the way, I decided to exit at Udine Nord and head for the Crosis Falls. Arriving in Tarcento I tried to follow my instincts, but unfortunately, I had to use technology to find the right way.... Arriving at the car park, I took the path and, after a few minutes, I found myself in front of the spectacle of the waterfall. Its violent sound reminded me a lot of the white noise of some experimental music productions and, gripped by this desire to immerse myself in its world, I plugged my microphone into the recorder, put on my headphones and then, peace. During the recording there was nothing but its sound, the rest had disappeared.     Fall Asleep and Relax with the sound of Rollin Waves on the Reef Deep Sleeping Relax - Tape 003 - Filtri - June

    In this new episode, I've decided to do my first experiment recording with Zoom H3-VR a special recorder that allows you to record in the ambisonic format. I've decided to test it in a hidden place near the sea where the waves are continuously rolling and hitting the reef. I've placed the recorder upside down in this little hole trying to capture at 360 degrees all the micro sounds on each wall of the rocks. The place is called Filtri and is a free enter beach in my hometown where a lot of young people go to enjoy the sea and drink some beers at the night in front of small bonfires. Remember that, all these recordings are taken directly by me with professional microphones and not downloaded from some online archive.     Relaxing sound of Underwater waves and sand grains for sleeping, relaxing and working - Tape 002 - Sistiana Mare - June

    In this new episode, I've decided to bring a different recording that I've done using an Idrophone, a special microphone that allows underwater recordings. I've selected a special location, called Sistiana Mare in the little municipality of Duino Aurisina - Trieste. When I placed the mic underwater and sat down on the beach with my headphones on, everything around me started to disappear and I was transported to a different world. The natural reverb of the waves and the little sand grains moving on the bottom of the sea create a very comfortable soundscape where the imagination starts to kick in. Personally, this recording reminds me of a whale flying in space. I don't know if you saw "The Treasure Plane", a cartoon film from early 2000. There's a scene where the hero is flying on this little boat jet with these huuuge space whales. Believe me, the cartoon is amazing!     Rain and thunder sounds for sleeping, relaxing and working - Tape 001 - Aurisina Cave - June

    In this first episode, I've decided to bring rain and thunder sounds recorded at 5 am in the morning near my house. That night I couldn't sleep so well and, at 4 am I woke up to these incredible sounds coming from outside. The first thing I've done, before even drinking my coffee, was just take my Zoom F6 with Lom microphones and go outside and record. While editing I've decided to don't stop the playback and I've fallen asleep in 10 minutes listening to the water flowing in the street and the drops hitting the roof of the houses.     Il suono del mare (ITA)

    Il suono dell'acqua, negli ultimi tempi, rievoca in me dei ricordi e delle emozioni che avevo dimenticato. Sapete, durante il mio periodo scolastico ero una persona molto emotiva, ricordo ancora quanto ho sofferto dopo aver ricevuto il classico "per me, sei solo un amico" dalla ragazza che mi piaceva o le sere, a letto, ad ascoltare canzoni reggae tristi dei Soja... True Love era la mia preferita, l'avrò ascoltata più di mille volte... Questa emotività è sempre stata un'arma a doppio taglio che, però, mi permetteva di ricordare ogni giorno di essere vivo. Col passare degli anni ho cominciato a reprimere questa parte di me, quasi a cancellarla del tutto. La realtà in cui dovevo vivere ogni giorno non mi permetteva più di essere quel ragazzo delle superiori, libero, dai problemi dalla vita. Oggi voglio farvi ascoltare il suono delle onde del mare, durante una giornata di leggera Bora nei primi giorni di Novembre, al tramonto. Stare seduto seduto sulla spiaggia di Sistiana e ascoltare le Onde sbattere sul bagno asciuga mi ha trasportato in vecchi ricordi aiutandomi a ricordare quel ragazzo, delle superiori che si emozionava con poco.     Il suono delle cascate (ITA)

    Nell'episodio di oggi iniziamo a viaggiare alla ricerca dei suoni e, per l'occasione ho deciso di portarvi con me a Crosis, una piccola località in Friuli Venezia Giulia. Due settimane fa, ho sentito il bisogno di staccare da tutto e da tutti, così, sabato mattina ho inserito la modalità aereo sul telefono, ho preso la macchina e me ne sono andato. Durante il tragitto in autostrada ho deciso di uscire a Udine Nord e andare verso le cascate di Crosis. Arrivato a Tarcento ho cercato di seguire il mio istinto, ma purtroppo, ho dovuto utilizzare la tecnologia per trovare la strada giusta... Arrivato al parcheggio, ho preso il sentiero e, dopo alcuni minuti mi sono ritrovato di fronte allo spettacolo della cascata. Il suo violento suono mi ricordava molto il white noise di alcune produzioni musicali sperimentali e, preso da questa voglia di immergermi nel suo mondo, ho collegato il microfono al registratrore, messo le cuffie e poi, pace. Durante la registrazione non c'era altro che il suo suono, il resto era scomparso. La mia mente, libera e in pace.     Gli accessori fondamentali per registrare suoni di qualità (ITA)

Alcuni di questi sono fondamentali e dobbiamo evitare assolutamente di dimenticarceli a casa. All'inizio della mia viaggio come avventuriero dei suoni ambientali non avete idea di quante volte ho perso l'occasione di registrare suoni fantastici solo perché mi mancavano alcuni strumenti. In questo episodio voglio mostrarvi cosa portare SEMPRE assieme a voi per evitare gli errori che ho commesso in passato. Registrare suoni ambientali di qualità è un arte non poco impegnativa, sia a livello mentale che fisico (vi farò vedere quanto pesa il mio zaino da field recordist). Per non buttare al vento lo sforzo dobbiamo fare attenzione a non dimenticare nulla.
