120 episodes

Lots and lots of movies have soundtracks. Some are classics. Some are bad. But the majority fall somewhere in between. This podcast is going to take a look at all of them (or, as many as I can). Every week I'll be covering a different movie that had an original motion picture soundtrack, and then digging into the album. One part film discussion, one part music discussion, the Soundtracker podcast is here to help you navigate the wide world of movies and music. In each episode, myself and a guest discuss the movie and its soundtrack, rate each one, give you our picks for the best songs on the soundtrack, and suggest additional recommendations for what to watch or listen to in relation to whatever we're covering. So join me, as I look back at an era that's largely a thing of the past, and maybe you'll find a new favorite film or song along the way. New episodes every Friday. Theme Song provided by Howell Dawdy of Howell Dawdy's Fast Track https://soundcloud.com/howelldawdysfasttrack. Edited by Ross Reilly (@4_5_and_7). Episode 108: Season 3 Finale! Bad Santa (with Bobby Big Wheel)

Episode 108: Season 3 Finale! Bad Santa (with Bobby Big Wheel)

It's the season 3 finale and the Christmas episode all in one, so let me fix you some sandwiches while you listen to me talk to three-time guest Bobby Big Wheel (@BobbyBigWheel on Twitter and @kleinman.bsky.social on Blue Sky) about BAD SANTA. In this episode, we talk about how much we miss John Ritter and Bernie Mac, how perfect the casting is, the sweet heart the movie sneaks up on you with, the various cuts that exist and the differences between them, Tony Cox taking the funniest fall ever captured on film, Zwigoff's issues with the final product and why the suits got it right for once, and a lot more. So give it a listen, or you won't, um, s-h-i-t right, for, a month.

Episode 107: Eyes Wide Shut (with Noah Kulwin of Blowback)

Episode 107: Eyes Wide Shut (with Noah Kulwin of Blowback)

*piano plunking* Today on Soundtracker, I do the first of two Christmas movies to close out the season. And that Christmas movie is EYES WIDE SHUT, which is a Christmas movie if you squint. Joining me to talk about it is Blowback's Noah Kulwin (@nkulw), who brings a great perspective to the deeper themes of the movie. In this episode, we talk about those themes, debate the actual danger Bill was (or wasn't) in, how 90s dank weed would be mids now, get into why this is such a decidedly and purposely unerotic movie about sex, and a whole lot more. Oh and there's some soundtrack discussion as well. So put on your best creepy mask and give it a listen.

Episode 106: Planes, Trains, and Automobiles (with comedy writer and cartoonist Michael Chau, @Srirachachau)

Episode 106: Planes, Trains, and Automobiles (with comedy writer and cartoonist Michael Chau, @Srirachachau)

Today on Soundtracker, I'm talking about one of the few Thanksgiving movies with a soundtrack, PLANES, TRAINS AND AUTOMOBILES. And I'm joined once again by Michael Chau (@Srirachachau) to talk about it. In this episode we compare this to the rest of John Hughes work, talk a whole whole lot about John Candy, discuss what makes the "twist" at the end land so well, and dig into the fairly weird soundtrack. You wanna hurt me? Go right ahead if it makes you feel any better. But at least listen to this episode.

Episode 105: Snatch (with dark money expert and government corruption watchdog Robert Maguire)

Episode 105: Snatch (with dark money expert and government corruption watchdog Robert Maguire)

D'ya like dags? Well I should hope so, because over here at Soundtracker we love dogs. And we love SNATCH, which I'll be talking about today with Robert Maguire (@RobertMaguire_ on Twitter and RobertMaguire on Bluesky). In this episode we talk about what makes Brick Top such a vile villain, how good at swearing Dennis Farina was, how weird it is to watch this now with the career trajectory Jason Statham ended up having, Oasis, and a whole lot more.

An Unlocked Patreon Bonus Episode! And a VERY Important Show Update! Disorderlies (with Clue Heywood @ClueHeywood)

An Unlocked Patreon Bonus Episode! And a VERY Important Show Update! Disorderlies (with Clue Heywood @ClueHeywood)

Ok so change of plans from the last episode. I'm unlocking a bonus episode, and it's in honor of last years November theme (Turkey Month). I'm joined in this episode by Twitter Celebrity, barfly, and Peloton guy, Clue Heywood (@ClueHeywood) to talk about the Fat Boys lone starring vehicle, DISORDERLIES. In this episode, we discuss whether the Fat Boys were a novelty act, talk about how their charisma fights hard to keep the film afloat, the weird cameos, and the extremely odd decision to put only one Fat Boys song on a soundtrack for a movie starring the Fat Boys.

Also, I have some important updates on the show, and plans for the future, that you're gonna want to hear.

Check out DISORDERLIES, in great quality, for free here: https://youtu.be/EsmWygTrKWw?si=VL_l0UZCw1Cgd9AA

Episode 104: From Dusk Till Dawn (with comedian Patrick Monahan, of the What a Time to be Alive podcast)

Episode 104: From Dusk Till Dawn (with comedian Patrick Monahan, of the What a Time to be Alive podcast)

Today, it's time once again to say goodbye to Halloween, and that's a bummer. However, I'm going out on a high note, as I'm joined once again by Patrick Monahan (@pattymo on Twitter, IG and Bluesky) to talk about FROM DUSK TILL DAWN. In this episode, we talk about how Clooney was a born movie star, the incredible supporting cast, which of the two halves is better, the great practical fx, the not so great CGI, and the oddball of a soundtrack.

Support indie podcasting!

I love Soundtracker. I love Eric Peacock. His show is always a great time, well researched, and a clear labor of love. I don’t listen to every show, only because I have huge gaps in my movie and music knowledge, but any time I watch a movie that he’s covered it gets me to go back and check that episode out, and it always deepens my appreciation for the movie and the soundtrack. Support this show! It’s the kind of independent podcasting we need. - Julian Titus, host of The Stage Select

Great look at the intersection between film and music industries

It constantly astounds me that this show isn’t more popular. Eric does a great job of getting into a part of popular film that doesn’t get enough analysis, and the guest stars are always great for the movie being discussed. The highest praise that I can give is that Eric is able to get me interested in a movie I either didn’t see or didn’t like the first time I saw it, which is something not all movie podcasts can pull off.

I love this pod. It’s a great show and i never realized how much i wanted. show to discuss music and movies at the same time. They have great guests from all the good pods everyone should be listening to. I’m glad i wasn’t the only one who liked vanilla sky.
