Chicago White Sox 2026 First Half Grades

UPDATE MAY 1, 2026: I am once again a regular listener and interested in the white Sox…except, I can’t find them anywhere on TV anymore! Last year has by far been the least I’ve ever followed the team due to a combo of their play and personal issues. This is my first return to any Sox podcast for about 9-10 months. I wouldn’t kick it off with any other show to get caught up on the Good, Bad and Ugly than Sox Machine! Your pal, Deadhead-Dan Normal IL Update Jan 2026: After a 2-3 year hiatus, the Aox have me a little excited again and so…I’m back! First Sox pod I resubscribed to…Sox Machine!

Jim, Josh and James have a good balance of takes for White Sox fans. My sense is that Josh is generally more optimistic, Jim is the straight man, and James is a bit of a cynic (in a good way). I like that James is a legit beat writer who is around the clubhouse and occasionally goes on the road with the team. It’s good to get an inside perspective on things that is from a more neutral source than the “official” podcast or Merkin.

I’m a subscriber and have been so ever since James joined a couple of seasons ago. I listen to the pod every week as it is the most insightful White Sox podcast the only gripe that I really have is with Josh Nelson and the way he speaks during the podcast. Someone had mentioned this in our previous review three years ago so I’m going to repeat what they said since they said it way better than I could: Josh is weirdly formal with the way he speaks saying the 2026 Chicago White Sox every time or the full first and last name of a player each time he mentions the name. it makes it a really hard listen at times. For example, in an off-season episode, Josh referred to a report that the Sox were after Pete Fairbanks, and each time he referenced him he would say “Peter Fairbanks” like he was reading it off of baseball reference. It’s really irritating. One other thing, even though I’m a paid subscriber, I will listen to the show most of the time on Apple instead of the ad free version because I don’t like the player that hosts the ad free version. Whoever is putting in the ads is using AI generated software to do it or something because the ads appear at the most random times. I will continue to listen because I really enjoy the info, but I really hope Josh/Jim/James read this review
