    Episode 7: Lina Abascal

In this episode of Spill It, guest Lina Abascal is a woman with a vision. From the time she was a sophomore in high school she’d gotten herself a writing gig reviewing bands for a local magazine and had a movie column for her schools' newspaper, so it’s no surprise that continued the drive and passion for writing through her time as a journalism student n college and to today as she gets her MFA in fiction. Just as her passion for writing has been fueled for the last decade, so has her pension for success and hitting monetary and life goals. A huge milestone of Lina’s has been buying her house before she was 30 and she breaks down the entire process. From how she saved the money she used for a down payment, to explaining what banks look at when deciding on your mortgage rate. Lina is incredibly multifaceted and utilized her talent for writing via content and strategy work for some of your favorite brands as she’s floated between the tech and ad space in multiple creative roles. Never mincing words about finance and salary, Lina gives a look into what it was like for her and how the cold apply is not as allusive as you may think, as she’s landed some of her biggest gigs yet by applying and letting her portfolio speak for itself. And as if she doesn’t do it all, Lina’s got a book coming out this summer, Bloghouse: The Book and curates a monthly book club with Junior High LA that you should join here. Interested in learning more about Lina or getting in touch? Check out her website and follow her on all socials @linalovesit although she’s currently on a bit of a social media hiatus as she works towards her MFA. Episode 6: Ivan Rahman

In this episode of Spill It Tiffanie speaks with Ivan Rahman irl friend of the pod since their paths crossed in 2017 as they both worked in the education sector. Fast forward to now and Ivan has attended Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government and Stanford Business School at the same time and is currently a Senior Associate at JP Morgan Chase.  During his continued learning and time at NYU it became clear to Ivan how bad black and brown people were being treated in society and wanted to be apart of change. This led him to start his career post-graduation in non-profits as a community organizer working with Americorps helping members of east New York gain employment, and then after receiving his Master's joining Teach for America working at one of the most underserved schools in NYC serving low-income students of color. After his time working in the social sector, Ivan noticed something. He was burnt out, being paid well below what he knew he was worth and mad. For Ivan, it didn't make sense that because he cared about others and wanted to help low-income people of color shouldn't mean he wouldn't earn a decent wage or living a balanced life. That's when he decided to pivot into the private sector and experienced the world of business school and the people who inhabit it. Saying it was a culture shock would be an understatement. Ivan and Tiffanie touch on capitalism, nepotism, racism, and classism and get to have the conversations that Spill It is meant to evoke. You don't want to miss this episode as Ivan drops some great gems that are incredibly relevant in 2021. Ivan is not on social media *gasp* but you can send fan mail and any thoughts on this episode to justtspillit@gmail.com and we'll make sure to share with him.  Support this podcast by subscribing wherever you listen to podcasts and rating and leaving a review on Apple Podcasts. Episode 5: Nicole Loher

In this episode of Spill It guest Nicole Loher goes through her career trajectory that has included working for some of the biggest brands in fashion, beauty, and tech. If you grew up on Tumblr in the early aughts it is safe to say you probably know or have at least heard of this week’s guest Nicole Loher. Nicole’s trajectory has been anything but typical and she breaks down the ways in which she strategically chose the roles and companies that would get her to where she wanted to be. From her time at FIT where she held down 8 internships for some of today’s biggest brands like Warby Parker and Fashion Designer Nanette Lapore, to corporate gigs like Nars and Christian Louboutin. As someone who started out in the fashion world and pivoted to social media and brand strategy, Nicole also gives us insight into what it looks like to be an adjunct professor at NYU and creating an accredited certificate that she helped create for NYU’s first social media curriculum.  As is life, Nicole’s life and career trajectory has been affected by a series of choices. The choice that one might say has had the biggest impact on Nicole was her time at the environmentally-conscious Hypergiant which helped solidify her plan for the future and committing to fighting the environmental and climate change crisis by getting her masters in Climate Change and Public Policy at Columbia University. Nicole’s long-term plan is to become a CMO/C-suite level at a green tech company where she can bring her long honed strategy skills and environmental school studies to enact long-term change. Episode 4: Arabelle Sicardi

In this episode of Spill It, Tiffanie chats with beauty writer and strategist Arabelle Sicardi. Arabelle’s life and career trajectory is one that many of us who grew up on the internet saw from the beginning; from her teenage fashion blog to writing for the legendary Rookie Mag and becoming one of the most sought after and respected voices in the beauty industry. When you start your career in the fashion and beauty world at sixteen, your career path is anything but "normal". For example, Arabelle has actually never had to apply for a job, all of her roles have come from referrals and/or contacts she’d made over the years. Arabelle’s path has been incredibly unique and she talks frankly about the ways in which she’s gotten to where she is today. She also shares the real tea, aka salary she's been paid at publications like Buzzfeed and how now as a freelancer what she charges for consultations. Arabelle is also writing a book, The House of Beaty, and shares the process she went through in securing her book deal and the complexities of book advances, and what it really takes to live as a full-time author.  Subscribe to Arabelle’s newsletter at arabellesicardi.substack.com where she writes about everything she's currently thinking about from beauty news and interviews. By subscribing you're also contributing to the donations Arabelle makes as she donates a percentage of her subscriptions to mutual aid funds and causes she cares about.
