Wells Fargo and Capital One also have compelling programs, but both can be difficult ecosystems to break into depending on someone’s credit profile. The result is a market where almost every issuer has at least one meaningful weakness. 45:53 Is the One-and-Done Ecosystem Dying? For years, one appealing strategy was choosing a single issuer, building several complementary cards within that ecosystem, and covering nearly every major spending category while pooling everything into one transferable currency. That strategy is becoming harder. Issuers appear increasingly willing to leave obvious gaps, shrink card families, tighten approvals, or emphasize profitability over maintaining a perfectly interconnected lineup. Macroeconomic uncertainty may also be pushing banks toward a kind of credit card austerity. So are the days of the “one-and-done” ecosystem, where you could stay almost entirely with one issuer and cover everything you needed, coming to an end? 47:00 Will Bank of America or PNC Add Transfers? The discussion circles back to the remaining major banks without traditional transferable-points programs. Bank of America seems unlikely to add transfer partners because Preferred Rewards already gives the bank a strong and relatively simple value proposition. PNC may be the more interesting wildcard.
