    UHF (1989) - with comedian Leah Renee

    Greetings! In this week’s episode, we’re flipping over to Channel 62 for the wonderfully weird 1989 cult comedy UHF, starring Weird Al Yankovic. When unemployed dreamer George Newman unexpectedly takes over a struggling local television station, he discovers that bizarre programming, a kung-fu movie host, a psychic, and a janitor named Stanley Spadowski might just be the secret to saving the station. Unfortunately, George also has to contend with ruthless rival station owner R.J. Fletcher, who would very much like to see Channel 62 disappear. Directed by Jay Levey and written by Levey and Yankovic, UHF is a loving—and completely unhinged—send-up of television, movies, advertising, pop culture, and pretty much anything else Weird Al could parody. Joining me for this trip is the hilarious comedian Leah Renee! We'll talk Weird Al, the movie's incredible supporting cast, the best sketches and parodies, Stanley Spadowski, memorable quotes, the film's initial reception and box-office disappointment, and how UHF eventually found its audience as a beloved cult classic.     Josie and the Pussycats (2001) - with Edward Miskie

    Greetings! In this week's episode we discuss Josie and the Pussycats, the neon-soaked, bubblegum pop comedy that crashed at the box office.  At first glance, Josie and the Pussycats is a teen movie about a girl band hitting it big. But underneath it's an absolutely brilliant, razor-sharp satire about consumer culture, corporate control, and the way music (and identity) gets sold to us. And walking us through it (between some hilariously astute takes on Stanley Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut) is Edward Miskie (writer/producer/sometimes performer). Edward is also the founder of The Remission Film Festival, which premiers for the first time April 17th, 2026.
