    Co-Founders' Startup Journey: 1st Startup + YCombinator + Cashed Out = Launch 2nd Startup

    Co-Founders' Startup Journey: 1st Startup + YCombinator + Cashed Out = Launch 2nd Startup

Nick Hinrichsen and Chris Coleman met at Stanford Business School and in 2013 started a venture backed company called Carlypso.

Working on building the 'Amazon for used cars', the two founders went through YCombinator in 2014, raised $10M venture capital by 2015 and successfully sold the business to Carvana in 2017.

Like true entrepreneurs, Chris and Nick are now working on their next venture called http://withclutch.com. They discovered that auto loan rates are all over the map and so they built a refinance calculator that allows car owners to reduce their monthly payments and save thousands in minutes.

Tune in to hear these co-founders share their awe*mazing startup stories!

    3 takeaways:

1.If you focus on the competition you’ll never win

2.Opportunistic hiring: sometimes you need to bring that person on before the company is fully ready for them

3.When pitching, have concrete evidence of your business model, not wishful thinking

How to Use Regulation Crowdfunding to Capitalize Your Startup

How to Use Regulation Crowdfunding to Capitalize Your Startup

Are you frustrated with traditional pathways to capitalize your startup?

Our guest, Aja Atwood, is an entrepreneur, team-leader, and cannabis advocate with over 15 years of experience in the engineering industry.

She is a mechanical engineer by education and graduated cum laude from Northeastern University. She cut her teeth professionally as an engineering consultant and specialist, working in natural catastrophe risk engineering, and by 2011 started her first entrepreneurial business.

Through these experiences, Aja honed her technical skills, fostered the engineering talent of her team, and learned valuable lessons along the way.

Aja is currently the co-founder of Trella Technologies, which provides technical, innovative solutions to make indoor and urban farming a sustainable, long-lasting industry.

Her business ethos is rooted in the belief that success comes from creating innovative technologies that can be shared with communities that need them the most.

I’m so excited to introduce you this extraordinary female founder! Here are my 3 takeaways from our conversation:

    1.    Straddling a side-hustle and full time job is hard to juggle and you’ll know it’s time to go full time with your startup when both are suffering.

    2.    Launching a new innovative device: you need to build in the education component to your marketing – it takes time to get folks willing to try something new.

    3.    As a woman of color founder, Aja quickly realized her odds of raising traditional capital were less than 1%, so she turned to Regulation Crowdfunding to capitalize her business. Side benefit: it forced the team to get really good at marketing!

    Humanize Your Services with Video

    Humanize Your Services with Video

Since 2013 our guest, Joel Young, has been working as a solo entrepreneur. He used his skills in the fields of animation and video production to start his own business, JumpStart Video.

In just a few short years it grew from a side job in the corner of his bedroom to a thriving business that now generates 5 figures a month, and he did all this through good ol' fashion hustle and online gig platforms like Fiverr.com.

He’s currently an award-winning SUPER SELLER on Fiverr, and now spends his time running the business as well as creating content to help others work to live and enjoy more career independence!

You'll be inspired by Joel's wonderful startup story! It began with wanting to retire outstanding debt and his wife's suggestion to provide voice over services on Fiverr. Now he has a team of four and preparing to hire more.

Joel shares terrific advice for using explainer, animated, white board or personal videos to connect with customers and humanize your products and services.

Genuine Sincerity

While that may sound redundant, Ande truly is genuinely sincere. She brings a caring vibe to the topics she discusses and, if you're fortunate like me, the same sincerity to her guests. Thanks for the opportunity to chat.
