2018 was a historic year for Democrats in state legislatures. We gained 8 new Democratic majorities, flipped 405 seats from red to blue, and elected 2,923 Democrats - 1,243 of whom were women.

And we're ready to do it again. We've already had special elections happening this year, and in November, we have stated legislative elections in Mississippi, Louisiana, New Jersey, and of course, the big one: Virginia. This year, all 100 House and all 40 Senate seats are up for grabs, and Democrats only need to flip 2 in the House and 2 in the Senate to win back the majority.

With her background of working in state politics for more than 15 years, DLCC Executive Director Jessica Post is speaking with Democratic stars and experts about everything you need to know about state politics.

Important Races at the State Level

If you care about electing more Democrats, progressives, women, and people of color, listen to this pod. Some of the most important legislative work is happening at the state level, and state legislatures is where our future national leaders (like Barack Obama!) are coming from. This pod features people working to win these vital down-ticket races. Jess and Alison are easy and fun to listen to, and I look forward to hearing more in the next episode.

Fun spin on a politcal podcast

My favorite President, Jed Bartlet, once said that local politics are important ''cause that's where all the governing that really matters to anybody really happens." As state resistance against Trump has grown, it seems Jed Bartlet was onto something. I've heard a lot of people with questionable qualifications punditing on national politics on podcasts (and enjoy several of them) but Stated is the complete opposite of that. It's qualified people--the ones actually doing the work--talking about where the governing that really matters to anybody really happens. It's a nice change of pace for a political podcast and a nice peak behind the scenes in a place where that really happens.
