31: Part #2 - Losing farm land to renewables *UPDATE*

In episode #3, we spoke with Emily Hill from Colbinabbin, in Victoria. Emily was detailing the proposed solar farm in their region, and what the impacts of that would look like.  Unfortunately, the solar farm has been approved; despite community pushback, including from the local council, genuine concerns from local businesses and farms, and zero consultation from the company involved, who actively avoided meeting with the affected community members.  On top of this, given that the project is to do with 'Net Zero', it comes with special, sweeping powers that effectively prohibit the community members' right to appeal this project to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.  As an aside and not covered in this interview, it's also come to light that the proposal of running livestock underneath/through/around solar plants and wind turbines is causing a raft of health issues and hazards that means animals grazed in those areas are potentially not fit for processing, effectively rendering that area of land useless for anything else.  Meeting Net Zero requirements at any cost, including the removal of democratic processes, is not something most Australians would support, and yet it's happening across different sectors every day.  We are all going to be paying the price of these decisions, whether this particular example directly affects you, or not.  Talk about it, make it known, and perhaps some of these issues can be righted, and future mistakes avoided.  707 Links: Instagram: station707podcast  Facebook: Station 707 Podcast  Email: tom.station707@gmail.com  Subscribe within the app of your choice to be notified of new episodes when they become available.  If you would like to support the work of Station 707, please follow one of these links: https://buymeacoffee.com/station707  https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=JUQ7BKCYYYZDS   Thank you for your support!

30: The Dawson Society - Conference on the Home 2025, with Dr. Tom Gourlay

“the suburbs ought to be either glorified by romance and religion or else destroyed by fire from heaven, or even by firebrands from the earth.” – G. K. Chesterton    That is the first line you'll read on the event information page for the upcoming conference in Perth WA, from the 10th -12th July. The event is called, "Home; Family, Place, Economics", and is being brought to you by The Dawson Society. https://dawsonsociety.org.au/event/home-conference/  Tom Gourlay from The Dawson Society joins me to discuss the event, which is compelling in the sense that it's exploring the meaning of home, and what that looks like in today's culture, whether that's as a nation, a community, a family, and even as an individual.  Listen to Tom as he shares some fascinating bits of history, insights into culture and how it's shaped and changed, and the importance of studying and understanding these concepts and applications in a world that often moves quickly past into the 'next best thing' without paying heed to lessons from yesteryear.

29: Grounded Australia 2025 - with Matthew Evans

*If you're a budding homesteader/farmer/foodie/health enthusiast/policy maker/wine drinker/entrepreneur/anyone?...have a read and check out the links for some amazing free content!*  Following on from our previous conversation in episode #19, Matthew Evans joins me once again but this time, to debrief the inaugural Grounded Festival Australia - which took place at Matthew's farm on the 4th and 5th of December in 2024.  What is Grounded?  (From the website:) "GROUNDED is a cross between a world class conference, an informative field day and a cracking food festival. The first one was run in the beautiful Huon Valley in Southern Tasmania in December 2024. Inspired by Groundswell in the UK, and run with their blessing, GROUNDED is reimagining farmer learning by running multiple talks and demonstrations on farm, for farmers and those interested in food systems, soil and even gardening, organised by people with skin in the game. Think good food stalls, good company, and cracking sessions, with a bit of music thrown in". Matthew shares with us some of the key stories and experiences that came out of this incredible event, and we also discuss the highly exciting news about the 2025 Grounded Festival happening right here in WA on the 19th and 20th September near Bridgetown! 27: Keep the Sheep - with Tiffany Davey

Tiff Davey joins us on Station 707 for a fact-based update on why the Live Export Industry is alive and strong!  How does Tiff know? When she's not helping out The Livestock Collective, Keep the Sheep, or managing her Wheatbelt based pasture-raised egg business, Tiffany is on board the live export vessels, ensuring the sheep are well taken care of from paddock to port to processing.  Tiff shares with us her most recent voyage to Kuwait, how the demand for LIVE sheep is as strong, and as necessary as ever, what the campaigns are achieving here at home, and she dispels some of the propaganda and myths that are currently doing the rounds.   If you know of anyone who is on the fence over this issue, or opposed but open to learning, get them to listen to what Tiff has to say in this episode, as having been involved for years and recently back from a voyage, she has definitely got the social license, and the first-hand and current experience to speak on the matter.  And if they are still in doubt, head to The Livestock Collective or Keep the Sheep websites below, where everything factual and truthful is explained, and on display.  Links: Keep the Sheep: https://www.keepthesheep.com.au/  The Livestock Collective: https://www.thelivestockcollective.com.au/  Instagram: @daveytiff    https://www.instagram.com/daveytiff/ Pasture-raised Eggs:  @berekeeeggs   https://www.instagram.com/berekeeeggs/    707 Links: Instagram: station707podcast  Facebook: Station 707 Podcast  Email: tom.station707@gmail.com  Subscribe within the app of your choice to be notified of new episodes when they become available.  If you would like to support the work of Station 707, please follow one of these links: https://buymeacoffee.com/station707  https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=JUQ7BKCYYYZDS   Thank you for your support!

25: Adjusting Your Understanding of Health - with Chiropractor, Dr. Andrew Smith

Welcome back to 707!  It seems appropriate that in 2025 we are starting off with episode #25, and joining me today is Dr. Andrew Smith, of Ascension Chiropractic.  Andrew is passionate about his work, continuously pursuing a greater understanding of overall health and how chiropractic care plays a vital role therein.  Having travelled and worked overseas in multiple countries, he brings a wealth of experience and well-rounded knowledge to our conversation as we discuss the varying impacts on our health today, especially our children's health, and the vital importance of incorporating a whole-of-body-and-mind approach to health care.  I make a reference to a report I came across which is titled, "Global Food Security Index" from 2022, which has Australia listed as 22nd in the world for quality and safety. It's quite an interesting read, the link for that is here: https://impact.economist.com/sustainability/project/food-security-index/  Ascension Chiropractic Website:  https://www.ascensionchiropractic.com.au/    707 Links: Instagram: station707podcast  Facebook: Station 707 Podcast  Email: tom.station707@gmail.com  Subscribe within the app of your choice to be notified of new episodes when they become available.  If you would like to support the work of Station 707, please follow one of these links: https://buymeacoffee.com/station707  https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=JUQ7BKCYYYZDS   Thank you for your support!
