Step In

Southside Church

At Southside Church, we believe the abundant life is not just something we hope for someday—it’s something we step into together right now. We gather on Sundays, in small groups, and through this podcast to lean into that life together. Each week we share a sermon, but there’s always more to say. Step In is our way of continuing the conversation and spurring one another on throughout the week.

Content note: This episode includes discussion of alcohol abuse, violence, and self-harm. Listener discretion is advised. In this special episode of Step In, Pastor Mike sits down with his longtime friend Rich Stewart for a raw and compassionate conversation about addiction, recovery, and the power of honesty and connection. Rich shares his story of growing up around church, knowing Scripture but living without deep connection to God, and how isolation and unprocessed pain eventually led to alcoholism. He reflects on reaching the end of himself, the courage it took to ask for help, and how recovery has become a daily practice of truth, humility, and trust. Together, Mike and Rich talk about the danger of isolation, the importance of answering the phone when someone reaches out, and how healing often begins when secrets are brought into the light. The conversation is heavy at times, but grounded in hope and the belief that none of us are meant to do life alone. 📱 If you are engaging in self-harm, or considering taking your own life:Please text or call 988 immediately - you are not alone, and there are mental health professionals available 24/7 who would love to speak with you.  📱 If you are feeling isolated or need support: You can text the keyword CARE to 604-670-3040 to connect with someone who can help you take a next step.
