  1. Sticky Jazz interview Chris Garneau (round 2)

    2D AGO

Sticky Jazz interview Chris Garneau (round 2)

My second interview with acclaimed singer-songwriter Chris Garneau, marking four years since our first conversation. In this wide-ranging and deeply philosophical discussion, explore creativity, change, and artistic evolution—delving into territory that left many prepared questions behind in favor of organic, thought-provoking dialogue. These are the best kind of interviews, when the conversation takes on a life of its own. Much has changed in Garneau’s world since the last encounter. Having relocated from upstate New York to “The City,” the artist channeled the energy, intensity, and new experiences of urban life into his bold new album, In Reverse The record represents a striking sonic departure, blending resurrected 1989 indie aesthetics with lush dream pop, while fluidly navigating the spaces between goth and shoegaze. Nothing was off limits. During the interview, Garneau reflects on the unpredictable journey of the album’s creation. Several songs evolved into completely different entities than originally envisioned, resulting in a finished product that bears little resemblance to its earliest iterations. The final work delivers a rich, immersive experience full of texture and surprise. The conversation also dives into the album’s lyrical landscape, which pushes boundaries in the tradition of Tom Waits’ nonsensical poetry on RAINDOGS and the ethereal, otherworldly vocals of Liz Fraser with Cocteau Twins. Listeners can expect everything from introspective storytelling to abstract, dreamlike expression. “There is something for everyone on this album,”. From sonic adventurers to those drawn to profound lyricism, "In Reverse" offers a compelling and multifaceted body of work. Tune in to hear Chris Garneau discuss his artistic evolution, the influence of his new environment, and the unexpected paths that led to one of his most ambitious releases to date. 2. Sticky Jazz Interview Trust Me

    Sticky Jazz Interview Trust Me

Lynn Breedlove (He/They) is a longtime legend in the Bay Area Punk Scene, having played the same stage the same night with Pansy Division (Oh the story there) and so much else. Pulling long time collaborators Travis Andrews and percussionist Andy Meyerson for this current project "Trust Me" for some really beyond personal experiences of grief, growing up queer, lost in America's shameful history of exclusion. Fighting to self identify, and fighting just to survive. This album goes into a life no stone unturned, Lynn tells the story of a series of murders that were personal, and how to love the person who did it, saying "Forgiveness does not equal justice" and plenty of other insights into what makes us human. Lynn also told some great stories about Chris Freeman of Pansy Division, that I have his permission to leave in this episode. The album is called "Why I like Dead Guys", and it came from an email explaining Bowie and Prince. Nuff said. youtube thelivingearthshow.com #trustme #thelivingearthshow #lynnbreedlove #pansydivision #gayc/dc #punk #queerartists #queercore This program may contain copyrighted material which has not always been authorized by the copyright owners. 3. Sticky Jazz Interview EMF (Ian Dench)

Sticky Jazz Interview EMF (Ian Dench)

Everyone remembers "Unbelievable" by EMF in the early 90s, they were at the forefront of the electro hip hop rock shift that just "happened" out of nowhere, with funky hats, hairstyles and synth pushing rock into new genres. Bands like EMF were getting play everywhere, along with Jesus Jones, Pop Will Eat Itself, The Farm, this was a new take on alternative music that captured the zeitgeist of the time, the music captured the feel, and the anxiety and new freedom in the post cold war world. I covered their gig in Salt Lake City over the summer with a band "Ecce Shnak" in tow, and had a quick chat with both bands. EMF was out having fun, and giving us new material, of an album they had released in 2024 "The Beauty and The Chaos". The gig was fantastic, and they played some new material from the EP they just released in November 2025, called "Reach For Something Higher". I got to chat with Ian Dench the guitarist while he drove around London, we talked about some fun history of the band and their music, Motorhead, and James Atkin's love of football jerseys. On this new EP there is a wonderful song that EMF recorded with Ecce Shnak called "LGBTQ+ LOVER". I filmed it during the soundcheck and it was incredible. This song gives the message that all are loved in "Gods' great plan", and showcases the mega talent of both bands. Yeah they are both that great.
