Still Watching: Mosquito Coast with Melissa George

Still Watching: Mosquito Coast with Melissa George

On this special episode of the Still Watching podcast, presented by Apple TV+ and Vanity Fair, hosts Preeti Chhibber and Chris Feil discuss the latest episode, set at the elaborate Mexican hacienda where the Fox family takes refuge after a harrowing journey through the desert. What seems initially to be an oasis, with fancy bedrooms and even an in-house mezcal distillery, quickly turns sinister, particularly with the arrival of family matriarch Lucrecia (Ofelia Medina). By episode's end it's the Fox family matriarch Margot (Melissa George) who has taken control, shepherding her children to safety and wielding a gun in a way that seems to reveal plenty about her and Allie's mysterious past.

After discussing the show thus far and how it's telling the story of an American family on the run, Preeti talks to Melissa George about how she came on board the project, how she's playing Margot as a woman born of privilege who decided to go on the run with her eccentric husband, and what might come next in the remaining episodes of Mosquito Coast's seven-part season.

Great content but...

There are too many “you know,” “like,” “you know”....If you’re the cohost of a podcast you should work on your ability to speak clearly without using words such as “you know” and “like”. It makes one of the hosts in particular sound unprepared. If you’re not sure what you’re going to say, then write it down. Count up how many “you know” are in the third episode of Mare along with how many “like”. It was hard to concentrate in the content.

Best Podcast on Mare and Others

This podcast is a don’t-miss for me, and is far and away the best one out there on the shows it covers. I try from time to time to listen to other podcasts on my favorite show of the moment (Mare of Easttown, The Flight Attendant, The Undoing, Sharp Objects, etc.), and nothing has come close. In addition to their own terrific insights/commentary, the interviews and listener mail are great features. Thanks, Joanna and Richard! -Katherine

Replace Joanna?

I’m not sure why I’m still listening. Richard has good insights, is critically thinking about the show, but it really seems like he’s just thoroughly irritated and plain bored with Joanna. And kind of for good reason - she’s unsophisticated and doesn’t seem to have confidence in what she’s saying, she nervously laughs too much, and says “like” entirely too much.
